History buffs welcome: Congress Hall has overlooked the Atlantic Ocean, in the town of Cape May, New Jersey, for over 200 years. Once known as "The Summer White House," Congress Hall has been a welcome retreat to many throughout the centuries. Known as America's first seaside resort, the historical 19th century hotel offers 106 guestrooms, including newly renovated Junior Suites, each one individually named for the U.S. presidents or dignitaries who spent their summers there. Each Junior Suite is filled with pieces modeled after American heritage furniture with antiqued brass hardware, plush bedding and hand-dyed linen. Located in the center of New Jersey's Victorian District, there is never a dull moment with loads of activities within arm’s reach. Guests can relax in private cabana tents on the beach, or enjoy a relaxing and serene day at Sea Spa. Or, it’s a quick 5-minute stroll to West End Garage, a hall stocked with 50 little independent shops that make Cape May’s retail scene so unique.

10.0 Wonderful
Pros:Over many occasions, I witnessed the staff going above and beyond expectations of guests. From making sure all the rocking chairs lined up to providing excellent cocktail service, it is clear that the whole staff is trained and believes in great customer service.
Cons:The hotel and grounds were top shelf. Nothing could have been better at Congress Hall. Cape May in January is understandable quiet; which is quite nice. However, many if not most the restaurants and businesses are closed.

10.0 Wonderful
Pros:Everyone was incredibly kind and welcoming. Our trip was very brief, and we returned to the hotel around 11pm, following the event we had travelled to attend. My daughter had been fighting a cold and wanted some hot tea to soothe her throat. There are no microwaves or coffee makers in the room, and the Blue Pig was closed. However, a woman was doing the bookkeeping and we asked if was possible to get tea. She went to the back and made a cup for my daughter. I offered to pay or bill it to the room, and she said not to worry about it. Also, the valet service is so convenient and sanity saving, even in the off season.
Cons:The fitness center is probably one of the least used amenities in any hotel, so the offerings aren't very robust. This holds true here as well. Two treadmills, an elliptical, a bike, and a bench with a rack of hand weights. My advice, pack a resistance band to beef up your options. It takes less space in your luggage than sock.

Cons:That was raining the next day! Other than that it was a good stay!
