  1. Ensure your vaccinations are up to date and you have packed a full medicine kit.
  2. Do not drink the tap water- even if it is filtered – and avoid ice, eating from fresh fruit and juice stands in the streets.
  3. When you arrive, be sure to dress culturally appropriately; loose ankle length clothing and tops that cover your shoulders.
  4. India is known for its great big festivals which bring large crowds, so try to avoid travelling alone and keeping your personal belongings on your front at all times.
  5. The best way to get around the country is in rickshaws and taxis, especially in the big city. From the airport, it’s best to book a pre-paid car or organise transportation from inside the airport terminal, reducing your risk of being scammed.
  6. Allocate plenty of travelling time from Point A to Point B, as traffic in the big cities around India can get rather heavy.
  7. Watch your stuff! Be careful with your belongings and invest in sling bags or pouches to ensure the safety of your wallet, passport, phone and travel essentials.
