It’s no surprise that participation in this tour is limited to those over the age of 18. Along the way you will visit such horrific scenes as a massacre site, a neighbourhood haunted by the vengeful spirits of murder victims, and a street said to be chock-full of ghosts, among others. More info on ghost tours here.

Fancy a visit to an abandoned amusement park? Yongma Land is famous as the film site of K-Pop sensation Crayon Pop’s music video, ‘Bar Bar Bar’. Other K-Pop stars and Korean dramas have also used this abandoned park as a filming location. More info here.

A summer night in Yongin Village

Every summer, Yongin Village, which is the site for many historical Korean dramas, puts on an event where actors dress up as ghosts and roam the grounds. It’s a nod to the village’s legend of the Virgin Ghosts, said to be roaming the village looking for lovers. Even if you know the ghosts are actors, you may find yourself starting to believe: many previous visitors who have spent the night say they will never forget the feeling of horror. On normal days the park also operates a daily Ghost Train Tour.

Meet ‘It’ on Jeju Island

Want to float around with some creepy clowns? You can! You’ll have to hire a private tour to get here though, as there aren’t any public tours available. Just head towards the Saebyol Oreum volcano, also known as Hyoseongak, on Jeju Island. It’s just off the 1135 road. Proceed with caution, as it is private property and trespassers may not be welcome – although many tourists have managed to sneak inside for photos of the circus, which looks like it was abandoned in a hurry. More info here.
Bonus: If you’re travelling from or headed towards the Jeju International Airport, especially at night, ask your driver to take you to ‘Mysterious Road’, also known as ‘Ghost Road’. Have the driver stop the car, and you may just experience your vehicle moving up the hill of its own accord!
