Overview

In the heart of medieval Vieux Chinon, with easy access to the fortress on foot or by car, the Best Western Hotel de France, Chinon, France, occupies a beautifully renovated 16th-century building, its comfortable rooms looking out over the château and a charming square with a fountain. Inside, the hotel keeps an atmosphere of authentic charm, comfort, and respect for tradition, with balconied rooms that bring the old stone and the fortress views right to the window. Luggage assistance is on hand in a building that keeps its period character. Chinon sits in the heart of the Loire Valley, its royal fortress strung along the ridge above the town and the River Vienne, in a region long called the garden of France for its soft light, its fine food, and its very drinkable wines. The Chinon vineyards, the riverside lanes, and the châteaux of the Loire are all close. High on its ridge, the fortress watches over the town below.

The service received high marks for friendliness, professionalism, and helpfulness, with many guests highlighting the warm welcome and attentive staff. Breakfast was frequently mentioned as a highlight, with several reviews noting its quality and variety. Cleanliness and comfort were also appreciated, especially in recently refurbished rooms. However, some guests reported noise issues, particularly from the street, air conditioning, or hotel equipment, and a few noted the lack of an elevator as a drawback.
