9.2 Excellent
Pros: very good service and great people!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Staff are all very friendly and thoughtful. Their warm smile has added much value to our stay. The gentleman receiving us speaks good English so there is no obstacle in communication. The onsen hotel is nicely decorated. Compared to other large hotels in the neighborhood, this relatively small one has successfully created a tranquil environment, making it a good place for rejuvenation. It will definitely be our choice if we pay visit to Gero again.
Cons: There is a bit of walk to the outdoor onsen so it will be quite cold in snowing season. But it is offset by the many good points of the hotel.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: It is arguably the best accommodation we’ve had in our trip. Much more personalized than the other five stars hotel we’ve stayed in. Go with the room with private onsen, it is worth every penny!
Cons: Nothing.

Pros: So divine!! Room with private outdoor bath, beautiful fall colors and misty mountains. Incredible food. Kind and attentive staff who went out of their way to make us feel comfortable. They sent us off with a gift of green tea. Wonderful experience and will highly recommend to friends. We have stay in many ryokans over the years, and this is in our top 3 for sure.
Cons: Maybe a little later breakfast option (8:30am is the latest option) and later checkout would be nice, to enjoy the wonderful bath more :) However, checkout time (10am) is pretty normal for ryokans in Japan.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Excellent service, delicious breakfast and dinner

9.6 Excellent
Pros: There are plenty of things to like in this hotel i.e. great onsen (including private inroom, indoor and outdoor public onsen), excellent food (both dinner and breakfast), comfortable room and very friendly and helpful staffs.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The staffs are very friendly. Meal size is quite large.
7.5 Good
Pros: Room is good and breakfast is superb
2.9 Mediocre
Cons: No service for serving dinner at all, old bldg, private Onsen room just provide a small bathtub for onsen water, and did not tell us the checkout time is 10am, as we assume is 11am, same as other onsen hotels, then the staff say he need to overwork as we leave at 10.40am. Bad experience. Not recommended!
5.8 Okay
Pros: Excellent cuisine, delicately prepared and impeccably presented by the chef
Cons: Dinner service - staff was in experienced/ lacked training and was in a rush to get on with the delivery which is unexpected for a ryokan with premium pricing. Small glass of apperitiv was spilled but she did not clean up as expected and left a stain throughout the service. Explanation of the different dishes was very limited and rushed through. All in all service did not do justice to the cuisine. Lacked personal service and touch expected from a traditional ryokan.
Izumi-so - Gero - Building
8
8.6 Excellent (323 reviews)
S$ 148+
9.2 Excellent
Pros: breakfast was good. location was relatively easy to get to through the JR line. onsen was clean. rooms were comfortable and well furnished. staff was super friendly
Cons: wish the view out of the room were better.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: The hostel is operated by a Japanese couple. The wife speaks very good English. Good location and near every thing. There is also free pickup service. Onsen is good with both outside and inside pools.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly welcome and stay. Felt personal always asking about our day and plans. We went half board and the food was excellent, beautifully presented and great to taste a bit of everything. In-house onsen was a big plus and was clean and while compact, perfect for our stay.
Cons: Not a negative exactly, but may take getting used to if by shared bathroom you are still used to having a cubicle or privacy to shower.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: This is your traditional Ryokan, with everything you would expect there. There owners are friendly and will try to make you feel at home. The onsen is really nice too. Last but not least, it is located inside of Gero, close to every intersting place you may want to see.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly owners. They spoke good english (something quite rare in Japan. Most hotels/hosts say they can speak other languages but they just use a translation app which makes things tricky). Nice ample room and private toilet. Bathroom is shared -japanese style. Nice little onsen provided as well. Owners exceeded our expectation with the onsen use as well as providing information about Gero. Izumi-So is within walking distance of pretty much everything in Gero (restaurants and other onsen included). A few car park spaces available too. I would definitely visit again.
Cons: Nothing to say really. I guess if you're shy it would make taking a bath in front of others tricky. But you'll definitely find a time when there are no other users to take advantage of the bathing facilities and the onsen.

Onsen indoor water is not hot. Breakfast is provided in price . I choose buffet which the room is like functional room . It 's not nice atmosphere but food is ok.
Cons: Hotel is quite old.
3.0 Mediocre
Pros: Free pick up service from the station. 3 different Onsen facilities within the hotel, size was good and was clean with good amenities.
Cons: Evening meal in the room was terrible and not worth the money. Morning breakfast did not provide Japanese style breakfast which was disappointing.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Great location
Cons: Wifi was lousy
9.0 Excellent
Pros: The facility is good. The staffs are so kind. The hot spring is a must, you can feel that the water is really different. Located near JR station and the city's shrine.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Clean and comfortable Nice onsen
6.0 Good
Pros: Good breakfast. Large hotel well equipped with three hot spring baths.
Cons: Usage of spa facilities is not permitted for people with tattoos. This excludes virtually all western visitors. Hotel is completely oriented to use by locals. Gero Onsen is a very ‘run down’ town with many derelict hotels right in the centre creating a very negative impression. It is said to be one of the three most impressive spa towns in Japan but it certainly doesn’t give that impression.

Cons: There is no private shower in our room. Not a problem for us.

Pros: Great food
7.5 Good
Pros: It's a nice Ryokan for a small price. Very nice service and staff. Centrally located (but the town is tiny so you can walk everywhere.
Cons: It's a bit dated, the whole place, food etc is 90's like. They are renovating so it might improve. But the dinner and breakfast also needs to modernize.

6.3 Good
Cons: The dining experience was quite a disappointment. We didn’t have the usual relax and enjoyable experience as we would normally have. The server seems to be very busy and tried to rush through the set up. The onsen was also a disappointment. The outdoor one was a small tub which can only fit 4 people max comfortably. the building and rooms are also fairly old and need touch up.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Unless you have a higher budget, you can't ask for more. Staff are super nice, in room dining are excellent, hot spring is comfortable too.
Cons: Apart from hot spring and dining, a small shop, there is no other facilities. However, it is more than enough in an onsen.

Excellent view from the balcony. Service staff were very attentive to details and very responsible, great service. The onsen on the first floor was very clean and well maintained with a view of the garden through enclosed glass. The entire 2-day stay felt like home. Nice, quiet and relaxing. The senior lady host speaks no English but we got by via a small translating gadget; she was super friendly and hospitable.
Cons: Location is quite far from the train station and can be a long and uphill walk. We drove, so it was easy with ample free parking. The walk from the car park, with bags, can be a bit intimidating, but once you hit the lobby, it was like going home! Wi-fi is only available in the lobby.
