A very nice old house with a very welcoming host. The hostel is in a nice area next to the beach. You can chill, take a rest and make some new friends :) I missed the breakfast but had dinner with the host. Definitely worth a try if you are staying! Please be aware that they got two dormitory small beds that are not shown on booking.com, would be wise to email them in advance to check their availability. Check them out in Instagram to know more!
Nothing really :)
The front room was lovely with woodwork and high ceilings, and I found the futon mattress comfortable enough. We were there at the height of summer heat and they did have a decent room air conditioner. Staff was present, helpful and friendly. Quiet neighborhood. A short walk to the beach, uncrowded, with warm water and gray-black volcanic sand, and there was a nice udon/tempura place across the street. The guesthouse rents serviceable bikes for about $5/day to visit the temples. A kindly place. The light breakfast, provided for a fee, was very good and is recommended.
It's a guesthouse, so you have to adhere to rules about no shoes on the floors and wearing the house "toilet slippers" to use the shared bathroom. Had to rent a towel. We stayed in the front room, which has paper walls and in terms of sound, was like sleeping on a porch. You hear everything from other rooms and the lobby.
The charm of the place, the new tatami, the hosts, easiness to get to town, but not be in town! I hope to be able to return to Kamejikan one day in the near future!
Although the bedroom floor was a tatami mat (traditional Japanese bedroom) that we slept on, the futons and mattresses provided were extremely comfortable. The host was very helpful as well in describing our surroundings.
Free parking on site would have been nice and also bath towels!
The only public bathroom is too busy.
