Terrible time with renting a car!!!
Cons: Terrible drop off process - so confusing and took so much extra time. I am also in the process of fighting with Avis because of being charged way over what I originally paid for.

Quality car, shaky service
Pros: Fiat 500L turned out to be a terrific car for us--small enough to navigate the small spaces of Europe, but enough room for luggage and taller people. Also, great fuel economy--45 mpg (19 km/L)
Cons: staff in Paris were friendly but did a poor job: did not explain contract (we ended up paying for insurance we already had), did not review car's condition (not clean interior, some damage exterior), did not review car's functions (interior controls quite different than US cars), and poor explanation for departing Paris--bad directions put us on Paris Pherique in wrong direction, costing us an hour delay.

paris Avis Car Rental
Pros: Car with GPS installed! Excellent
Cons: VERY Poor pick up and drop off locations instructions. I decided to check the location the day before I was to pick up the car. I spent 4 hrs. trying to find it as the US representative had given me the wrong address and pick-up point information. I found two streets with the same name. I called Avis USA for info. Was given the wrong location Avis also needs to say when the pick up point is inside a parking garage and where the entrance is. Even when Uber delivered me to the correct address we couldn't find the entrance to the office. I had to leave luggage and young teenager at top of ramp walk 3 levels down the exit ramp for cars hoping to find where Avis was located as that was the only place we could find an Avis sign.

AVIS Paris - crooked, rude, horrible service!
Cons: We rented a car from the AVIS in Paris located at 31 Rue Du Commandant Mouchotte. I was charged more than TRIPLE the $99US rate I booked online with KAYAK. Our rep in Paris was a conniving, cheating, lying snake. We contacted KAYAK, AVIS Paris, AVIS customer service, and Allianz insurance during this ordeal. Nobody seemed to be able to help – not when we got a flat tire, not when we found out we were overcharged, not when I returned home and tried to straighten this out. I will never ever use AVIS again and I will tell everyone I know about my horrible experience. I’m not surprised by the lying rude French Avis rep and I’m mad and embarrassed that I got taken for a ride, but I’m definitely surprised that I couldn’t find someone in the USA to help us. NEVER AGAIN.

Drop off on side street in unmarked underground garage
Pros: Everything fine until drop off
Cons: I drove all around the Gare du Nord in Paris for about two hours trying to find the drop location. My GPS did not work. Nobody spoke English and could help. Finally I used Google maps from the Avis and found the location, circled twice to explore an unmarked underground unattended garage. Finally saw some tiny signs on the ceiling. The search ate up all my time so I didn't get to top off the tank and got dinged for 1/2 tank of gas. Very exhausting and distraught when it was over. Ruined what until then was a great rental experience. The nature of the garage was not even mentioned on my rental agreement.

Cons: When we dropped if off in Paris, the drop off station was very sketchy in a below-ground parking lot and the employees didn't seem to know what to do with us. We also had to ask them to give us a receipt and confirm how much of our hold would be charged. It all felt very unprofessional and confusing.
Pros: It was a smooth transaction and everything went well.
Cons: The only problem was that I paid for insurance on line during the reservation and when I went to pick up the car they had no record of it. I had to buy insurance again, which was higher daily rate than the car itself!

Cons: The location is underground, signs is not very clear, hard to find it.

Cons: The seat was very uncomfortable and there was no way to adjust the back.
Also- I opted for insurance online when booking the car. The agent apparently could not see this and tried to get me to insure with them. I had proof of insurance and they still tried to sell me insurance.

Pros: Everything was fine with the car but now I am getting charged every month 30€ without any notice and without explanations. It is in process of sueing as they won't remove my bank details.
Cons: Warning, don't book with them. Charging after every momth wotgout notice or explanation!

Pros: The price was reasonable and there was no line for the pickup.
Cons: The condition of the car was very poor and it appeared that every scratch was documented, forcing me to spend about 20 minutes surveying the car finding all the dents, scratches, stains. Unsatisfactory with over 34k kms

Cons: I made a reservation to rent a car and i received an email that confirmed my reservation, when i went to pick up the car, the lady from europcar told me that the reservation wasnt in her sistem and that she had no cars to rent me. I had already payed the reservation and the insurance. I was a mess, Im really angry beacuse I had to pay 400 euros to rent another car in a different agency, and it was in christmas so there were no cars left.

Simple and practical
Pros: Everything was pretty easy. We paid at the agency when we picked up the car. Employees were nice and helpful.
Really small car but super cute and enough for what we wanted to do.
Cons: Not a big deal but it would have been nice to know that when returning the car there was a specific place to enter the parking lot (rental in Paris, France so quite confusing anyway).
I ended up being pulled over by the police because I had not noticed the continuous line on the road (I was too focused on finding the parking lot). This is my mistake of course but an employee admitted that this happens quite often so I guess a warning or a small map could be useful :)

Driving around Paris
Pros: The car had an onboard navigation system. Made it easy to drive out of Paris to Giverny and Auvers sur Oise. It was wonderful finding our way back to the car park.

Condition of car
Pros: Overall a very comfortable vehicle. I liked the numerous warning features. Too bad it didn't include a backup camera.
Cons: The car had more dents and scratches than usual. No windshield washer fluid and the rear window wiper blade was missing. The car occasionally made an unidentifiable tone sound.
I also had a 10 euro discount the agent would not accept.

I will never rent from Budget again.
Cons: I was overcharged for my rental by about $70 for gas. I told Budget I did not want the "fuel up front" option when we rented the car, and was told I would not be charged for that. I returned the car with an almost full tank, expecting that I would be charged for the 1 or 2 litres necessary to fill up the tank. Instead I was charged 70 euros for the "fuel up front" option. I emailed the Station Manager, Julien Sigonney, at the Paris station in response to an email he sent me stating that if I had any concerns I should contact him directly instead of give a bad review. I emailed him immediately, asking for our final bill to see what I was charged for. It took him several days to get me a copy. Once I got a copy, I saw what I had been overcharged for and asked for a refund. It has not been two weeks and he has not responded. I have emailed twice more to get a response, and have received nothing. I will never rent from Budget again, and will make sure no one I know does either.

Should have learnt my lesson from my previous expe
Pros: when I returned the car 2 hours late, I argued and waiting for about an hour so they could 'not' charge me an extra day. that was nice.
Cons: Renting a car is such a pain, scam, and sadly sucks away the excitement of a short break before you even set off.
I booked four days car rental for $230 knowing I would get stung for some insurance.
Then I ended up getting a smaller car, waiting 2 hours for it, being charged extra because they didn't have my car, paying surcharges.. dropping off the car with a final bill of around $550 conveniently charged to my credit card, I walked out of Avis/Budget counter feeling pretty sore.
ps. i didn't even opt for the $40 a day full insurance

Worst manager I`ve ever met
Pros: The car was clean and new. It had good navigation system and blutooth which is important.
Cons: The manager guy at the office was rude, unpolite and bad educated. He made our rental experience with this company terrible and left very bed impression.

Poor Transaction Communication
Pros: The pick-up was fantastic and so were the people. The car was in great shape and was exactly what we asked for.
Cons: I received a charge for $920 USD which I'm still disputing at the moment. The original price was $90 USD taxes and all included for our one-day rental. This major accidental charge can startle most people and hinder their vacations with the possibility of fraud on their credit card.

Overcharge at location and language barrier
Pros: Car was relatively new and ride well
Cons: Difficult in communicating insurance options and variation in pricing between two identical reservation. Reservation wuited in USD but was charged in Euro at exactly same price.

Pros: We accidentally reserved a car in downtown Paris instead of at the airport. The airport manager worked with us to switch the reservation and provide a comparable deal. The car was great and we enjoyed our time in Paris.
Pros: Extremely friendly staff. Explained everything thoroughly and made sure their system matched my Kayak price which seemed a bit tricky at first.
Cons: Didn't have an SUV but car I got was great.

Pros: Enterprise took the time to explain how their policies worked in France regarding the initial deposit and eventual refund. In addition, they gave a great overview of the car the morning of our rental so there was no question where things like the spare tire, jack were. All in all, very good experience.

Great car, staff and deal (despite a rocky start)
Pros: it was great to have some training by the staff on my hybrid rental, which was not so easy to start. one of the staff also gave me his mobile, in case I had an issue with the rental later on. The car was in very good shape, and held up very well. Also, the staff was very supportive when I got a small bruise on the car from an angry driver a few minutes before sending back the car.
Cons: Agency was empty when I arrived. waited 20+ minutes as staff were out picking up cars. not a big deal, but that was a bit stressful.

Pros: The staff at enterprise in Paris were amazing and helpful. I would definitely use again.
Cons: Pick up was terribly slow. We waited almost a half hour before we were even able to get to the counter. Then had to walk to a different location to pick up the car. On getting to the garage, the car they offered us had not even been cleaned and was filthy on both the outside and the inside. We then had to wait another half hour before they gave us another car.
Even though my invoice and bill were all in EUR, when I got my finall bill I noticed that, without my authorization, they had charged me in USD and charged me an extortionate conversion rate for the privilege. I used to have a high perception of Hertz but these sleazy tactics (which only amount to a couple of $ for them) make me want to put them into the same bucket as other sleazy operators such as Ryanair.

Cons: The dropoff in Paris was difficult. The rental office was closed, and we had to drop the car at a parking garage which was unmarked. We ended up parking the car on a street and walking into the office in order to drop the car. The attendant was very helpful, and assisted my husband with driving the car into the garage.

Pros: The directions on the website left me at the wrong place. When I phone in they were unable to help. After three calls they stopped answering. It took me two hours scouring a five block radius to find that it was at the train station. How easy was that? Why did no one at the customer service desk know to simply tell me??!
