Pros:

Drop off was the only positive to this experience. Park the car and go.

Cons:

Pricing was terrible. The time it took to be able to talk to staff after an 11 hour flight was terrible. Car selection was terrible.

Pros:

The guy at midway airport was really nice. They were very quick and efficient too.

Cons:

I did notice that there was a bunch sticky stuff in the back seat when I got to Kentucky. It didn’t come from me as the only thing I put in the backseat was my suitcase, so I’m a little disappointed with the cleanliness of the vehicle. Also the vehicle itself shakes a lot when you get up to 70mph, and overall I wasn’t impressed with the Ford Ecosport.

The vehicles I had was terrible. Maintenance needed on the vehicle WiFi updates needed. The side mirrors were very dirty. Looks of chocolate milk or shake splashed in the trunk area on passenger side. Vehicle not vacuumed, dried spot of crusty food on front passenger seat. Front windshield exterior had black tape or something on top and partially down the window. Looks of a repair. Partial scraped of stickers on the interior passenger side of windshield. Just an all around below standard experience. Oh and the tires are below minimum tread. (Penny check)

The drop off location and time was not what I selected in my search and didn’t realize until the night before that it had changed. Tried to call to change and it was closed, called the next morning and was informed it would be $659 to change to a closer drop off or to keep the car a couple extra hours. That is insanity. I waited over an hour in line to rent from these guys for pick up after my scheduled time, but was told if I was more than 20 min late it would be $659. What a joke.

Everything was ok except how long it took to get our car. We waited in line for an hour. And we had to get to our destination asap. There was not enough staff for the amount of customers AND they had problems with having cars ready.

The car was in horrific condition cleanliness as well as under the hood i presume and being a single woman driving through ice snow ect i felt beyond unsafe i returned the car early and didnt even fret about the 10$/gal gas total. I drove quite slow the entire time worst rental ever and i will not use the company again.

The pick up and drop off details were incorrect on our confirmation, so the Hertz desk at the airport wouldn’t let us collect a car from them. They sent us to a different location and we ended up spending over $50 on Ubers trying to find it. When we got there the people on the desk were very rude and blamed us, even after I showed them the documentation we had been sent which had the incorrect information on it.

At Midway we were sent to get our car to find it was not there. We were given another car but it did take more time then we had hoped. The car we got drove fine but was not very clean (sticky on parts of the door) and had a very heavy cleaner smell which made me wonder if someone had smoked in the car or thrown up. The car also made it whistling sound even though all the windows up. Bottom line- the car was safe to drive and got us to where we needed to go but was that pleasant. When we went to return the car that was also in ordeal as a drop off key box was not an option and we have been told it had been. We were eventually able to text the branch manager and came up an alternative plan this again took much more time than planned.

My main issue was that when I was doing my search for a car I said I was picking it up and midnight and it let me pick this one, but the location was closed from 10pm to 7am, so I had to take an Uber to my hotel and come back in the morning for the car. I could have double checked the hours, but I assumed that since I entered the time it would have given me a heads up.

Upcharged to a wild degree for tolls and didn’t make it clear at all. As someone from out of town who is not used to Chicago toll roads, they made it almost impossible to avoid being charged way too much. Added on close to $100 to our bill for maybe $5 worth of tolls. Insane. The car also smelled a little like smoke and had a number of scratches and scuffs. The rental checkout and return area was a small, seedy kiosk inside the parking garage instead of at the desk with the other more well-known brands. I would not rent from this company again—despite the lower price, they’ll find a way to charge you extra anyway. At least they didn’t try to scam us out of any money for the scuffs and scratches that were already there, so that’s something.

The staff in the lot at pickup was friendly and helpful in figuring out the confusion from the mistake a the counter. The staff at drop off was friendly and helpful. Both of these staff were Hertz employees as they were handling the car pickup and dropoff.

Cons:

The counter staff assigned the same car to me as to someone else. There was confusion as to who was supposed to be in the car. The counter staff added insurance that I did not want to the charges. They did not ask me; I never take the insurance. When I questioned the higher amount, she said it was due to a deposit that would be returned to me. When I called customer service to address the situation, "William" told me that there was nothing he could do to help and I would need to follow some 10 step process on a web site to submit a complaint. We normally rent from Hertz. I will never us Dollar again.

Hard to find the car. Was parked in a lot marked with another agency. No instruction at all on the basics of the car. Never told how to operate the plate pass. Directions for drop off were incorrect. Never could get through through when I called for a question.

I only liked the vehicle...that was it. Waiting in line for 2 hours for a rental car was absurd. A second staff member finally came to help with a long waiting line, and after a couple minutes the first staff member left while there was still a long line. Altogether took way too long. On the return, my mileage was entered as if I took possession of the vehicle with 1 mile (not nearly possible consideringthe scuffs I pointed out upon taking possession). I was overcharged for mileage overage even though I drove approximately 120 miles in 3 days. I was charged $1,731.10 when I was quoted $310.79. I had submitted a dispute with Avis, and now after no results have disputed the charge with my credit card.

Price with add ons is ridiculous Pick up was horrible at Midway desk with only two agents working neither of whom was trying very hard to move the line. I was only 4 people back and had to wait 45 minutes to get to the counter.

No the staff was rude the lady tried to get me to down grade for the same price and when I told her I chose one of the most expensive categories she got upset and said we’ll wait 45 mins till a car is ready

I am furious.... I rented a car and never received a confirmation email nor was there a reservation when I got to the airport. AND they didn't have any available cars. I had to rent a car from Alamo for $200+ and it took so long that I still missed my business meeting. I will literally never use kayak again.

No, the staff was not super helpful. We waited at least 40 minutes for a car after reserving one. They had a car available that was a step up for an upgrade and in my opinion, they should have offered it to us for the same price since they didn't have a car for us. Dropping our car off was very quick.

Cons:

Complimentary upgrade since they had no car for us.

National didn't have my SUV available nor would they rent a car to me since I was local and not a distant traveler and booked on the same day. Why did they give the option on the website that a car was available? Wasted my time on Christmas day.

I rented from Icarus cars from several dealer this trip. National was the only one that actually had the car I reserved when I arrived, and did not jerk me around. Also, no line at midway (but the others had long lines...).
