Hotel is set in lovely grounds, well looked after. The spa facilities are excellent and though the area could do with renovation, i loved the indoor pool with proper un-filered spa water. The new wellness centre is fun - a bit short on space but it works, and the pool that leads out from it is just great fun with the whirlpool and jacussi bits. One of the only hotel lobbies i have ever stayed in that actually was used.
Food was plentiful but to me a little tasteless and very much had that mass produced flavour. One could eat well though on just the salads, and most people seemed to be enjoying the food - i just go for quality rather than quantity. One or two silly rules, eg no-one allowed in the garden area after 6pm. however when i spoke to the manager about this he was very pleasant and immediately recified this. Would ideally have been nearer the town but there you don't have the lovely grounds and there is a tourist train which one can use - though it is not cheap.
The main staff members - reception, managers etc - were great. One of two of the minor ancillary staff were less pleasant but most were fine. The rooms are clean and pleasant and the bed good, though the quality of the furnishings reflect a poorer European country. The spa facilities were very good, much better than i would have expected for a 3* hotel. Main reception areas were pleasant. Main staff mainly spoke adequate English. I checked out several of the other hotels including some 4* ones while I was in Heviz, but ended up feeling I had made the right choice. Although I had only booked for 1 night i stayed for 3 and went back again for another 4 at end of holiday.
The cooked dishes in the buffet breakfasts and dinner were rather what you would have expected - lots of quantity and good variety but mass produced so without the flavour and quality of freshly produced food. Less spices and flavour than I for one would have liked. However the ancillary dishes were very varied and very good. Good selection of cold meats, cheeses, yogurts, cereals, salads, fruit etc with both meals so one could eat really well without touching the main hot dishes. There were lots of TV channels - but not one in English - all were Hungarian or German. I would have preferred to have been nearer the main town and lake but taxis in and out were not too expensive - about 4 Euros each way - and it was only a 15 minute walk
The shower and the view.
