10.0 Excellent
Pros: Perfect location in the old town, lovely staff, very clean, comfortable beds (futons). Overall a great place and I recommend it highly for kurashiki!
9.0 Excellent
Pros: very friendly staff, very cozy and comfortable to stay, historical and very cultural area, the public bath nearby was really nice!! simple and delicious breakfast. Overall it makes you feel like home staying here
Cons: Walls are quite thin, you can hear so much outside and inside the house at night, but understandable as it is a house with quite a bit of history.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: super friendly staff, feels like a family!:)
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Great great staff
10.0 Excellent
Pros: They now have a/c heaters installed, super new and worked really well. Clean bathrooms. The small hangout room had a kotatsu. Was hard to leave the kotatsu at times.
Cons: They include a free drink from their cafe from 11am-5pm, but it's so busy 100% of the time we never went for it. Would have liked to try happy pudding one of the days there. Maybe next time.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: i think this hostel gonna be your best and the only choice in kurashiki!!! the best staffs, the environment, the breakfast!! all the best
Cons: not even a bit
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Anyone could acquire a heritage house in the middle of touristic spot and run an accommodation business. Some might be skilled in building restoration techniques and able to create a new heritage building within a month. But they won't be able to imitate the hospitality spirit that this guesthouse delivers. This team of professionals who mostly play multiple roles in the business seemed happy doing their jobs, and some were exceptionally good at reading my needs and emotions before I even asked for anything. The well-kept heritage building itself provided a unique cultural experience and the staff made me feel at home. It was also quite impressive to watch how bedrooms turn into a cafe every morning. I am willing to visit Japan again just for the sake of staying at this place again!

5.8 Okay
Pros: The property is tremendous, stylish, sparkling clean and well maintained. The location is great and the experience could be fantastic.... had it not been for the controlling and nosy owner. The gentleman treats Westerners as barbarians and is clearly worried that the guests could disrespect the place. I have travelled extensively all over the world and never caused nor encountered trouble. The owner followed us during the stay, constantly reminding us of detailed rules. He literally stood over us or watched us whenever we used the communal space. We felt very unwelcome. The check out process was unnecessarily stressful. I was reminded at 9.30 am that we must vacate the place by sharp 10am and then I was followed around to make sure we leave on time (which we were planning to do anyway). Very unpleasant experience - guests seem an unwelcome nuisance which is a shame as the property has a great potential. :-(
Cons: The owner and his passive aggressive behaviours.
7.0 Good
Pros: It is well located near the canal and tourist area. We had a great self cooked dinner by the owner. The room was big enough for the three of us and quiet.
Cons: The room was very dusty. Bathroom facilities were clean, though shared.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Extrenely kindness of staff. Location: in the middle of historical city
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The owner of this Inn is a really friendly and welcoming person. He tried to get to know us a little bit by having a friendly conversation whenever we came back to the Inn. It is hard to describe but he made the stay a lot more enjoyable. The Inn also has a room for everyone to come to with a place to sit, TV and manga. They offer dinner for a small price. (slightly cheaper than restaurant) The room we had was enough for 3 futon to fit in and have a little extra space.
Cons: The wifi did not reach the upper floor where the sleeping rooms were located at.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The hosts is great, he helped us a lot.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Host was was very helpful & welcominb
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Great location, near canal. Also, hostel do food catering for reasonable fees. Nice food and host.
Cons: Hostel is in an alley, hard to find as Google map is not really accurate. Please provide guest with a landmark, and also indicate it is in an alley. Was raining on arrival day, no fault of hostel...just mother nature wasn't being kind!!! But had good photos the next morning, no crowds and sunny morning.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: In the Historical Bikan Site tourist area. Basic Japanese guess house. Shared bathrooms. Yuji the owner speaks some English and very friendly and helpful. Located in an alley next to Denim Street and Swan Restaurant.
Cons: No towels provided. Please get one from local shop if you don’t have one.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent location, staff were wonderful and so lovely! Enjoyed staying in a ryokan, would highly recommend for the experience!
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Yuji-inn is ideally located in the historic district of Kurashiki, and offers a great value for private rooms. Recommended for families or couples wanting to see the area.

Pros: Location in the historic quarter right alongside the canal. The traditional dinner and breakfasts.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Traditional Japanese breakfast. Very high quality and very tasty, but well you need to like it that way. ;) Great many course dinner in your own room. Enjoyed it a lot. The Onsen was great and too and the employees were very nice and courteous.
1.0 Poor
Cons: Our room had a view of the air conditioning, no garden view no view of outside. I told the staff that was a completely unacceptable room and asked for another I was told that other rooms were already given to others. Completely unacceptable. Why does this booking site tease us with beautiful garden rooms when in reality you end up with servant’s room on the third floor?
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The hospitality, customer service, attention to detail, and the food were absolutely wonderful. Mostly the food! And the location is excellent.
Cons: I liked everything!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Ryori Ryokan is in a beautiful location in the old town with lots of stores and restaurants and very close to the Ohare Art Gallery, a wonderful gallery. The staff was helpful and friendly, communicating through language barriers, and the food was excellent. The baths were very clean and comfortable.
Cons: Everything was lovely.

Featured amenities include luggage storage, a safe deposit box at the front desk, and a water dispenser. A train station pick-up service is provided at no charge, and free self parking is available onsite.
5.0 Okay
Pros: Front desk staff can communicate in English and was helpful.
Cons: We stayed for 2 nights from Wed to Fri. We're allocated a room on the 4th floor at the Annex (not the main building). - The decor of that floor (and our room) is a bit dated and dark and smells there had been people smoking. - The tap mixer of our wash basin broke after the first night, but the front desk was helpful and offered to switch us to another room. The mixer was fixed when we returned that night so we didn't change room. - On the second night of our stay, we noticed that a group of guests (attending a conference at the hotel that day) were occupying some of the rooms on the same floor closer to the elevators of the Annex and the whole floor was filled with smoking smell. The smell even went into our room, which is located further down the corridor. The smell of smoke continued the whole night and was very disturbing. - The dinner buffet appears to offer a good variety but the food was all cold and looked like it'd been laid out for 3 hours; food quality is average fast food quality; the presentation is like a canteen style. The ambiance of the dinner hall is not nice, as said, like a canteen which usually accommodates budget group tours. The service was not good either. We decided to have dinner elsewhere on the second night. - Breakfast was in comparison better as we have lower expectation for breakfast. - With our overall experience, we're surprised that the hotel can claim a 4-star and it's not good value for money.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Everything was really nice and new. Staff counter was polite and helpful in arranging shuttles for us. Room view was amazing. Nice open air rooftop bath. Hotel was decorated for halloween which was cute.
Cons: I understand that the octopus dinner performance depends on the season but was still disappointed nonetheless that it didn’t happened. Was also excited to catch the taiko performance that I read from a blogger’s review happens everyday, but for some reason there was no show the night we stayed. My family was a little disappointed as these were the two things I had hyped up when deciding to book Washu Blue. Also, you can’t see the sunrise too well from the women’s bath.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Very good dinner and breakfast buffet, Good onsen (hot springs) with free and delicious after onsen drink (Honey citron tea), large and comfortable room, excellent view, very good free traditional Japanese show after dinner, reasonable price
Cons: Hotel add Chlorine into onsen.

9.0 Excellent
Pros: Nice staff, great location! Really private dorm beds and good clean facilities. Free lockers and easy check in process.
Cons: You could hear people unlocking the doors and walking on the floor above you as well as in the dorm.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Fantastic location, just steps away from the canals. Loved that the room had a microwave and a washing machine.
Cons: No lift to the rooms, which was fine for me but would have been a problem with the elderly relative I had been travelling with the week before. It should have been pointed out in the room details on the hotel description. Also, I specifically indicated that I did not want my room to be cleaned, which would imply that I did not want anyone to enter my room, but was dismayed to find out that someone had come in to replace my towels.
7.1 Good
Pros: The location near the spot for travel
Cons: no elevator here but staff very friendly to help move luggage to roomT_T
7.0 Good
Pros: The room and the showers were very clean. The design of the entire hostel is appealing. The food in the restaurant was good.
Cons: The door in the staircase was really loud every time someone entered. You should add some sort of dampener. The bed was also too hard for our taste.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Nice interior design, it makes me very relaxed!
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The decoration, big room, wonderful shower.
Cons: Third floor without elevator, breakfast till 8:30, too early...

Pros: About 3 blocks from JR station, next to Ohara Museum and Bikan Historic District. Beautiful hotel with quality, tasteful and traditional classic furniture and wonderful seating areas in public areas. Our room was beautiful, very roomy and tastefully furnished. We really loved Kurashiki and the Kokosai Hotel. Wishing we had stayed longer.
Cons: Breakfast menu was normally expensive and I could not be understood when I just wanted the continental option. Did not have breakfast. But I really liked the beautiful coffee service and pastry in the little lobby coffee and tea bar.

2.5 Mediocre
Pros: I read the reviews of the whiners who had a hissyfit because of the location of this hotel. I was traveling by rental car so it wasn't a big issue with me. Sure, there is a shipyard next door and a refinery across the bay, but the many Chinese tourists staying at this hotel was unlikely put off by a belching smokestack. If you did not take both meals here, you missed out! The Kaiseki dinner was absolutely superb, with two maguro roe dishes and actual Beluga caviar on a sesame tofu. The dinner included a marbled beef dish with special dipping sauce, and a marvelous miso hot plate with a fresh fish fillet. A tempura platter was included and was followed by a flavored rice pot, pickled vegetables, and the 2nd soup of the meal. The dinner is worth 6400 yen at the hotel's restaurant. Breakfast was also spot on with scrupulously fresh dishes and you could even freshly squeeze carrot juice. The hotel also had a nice onsen and working sauna.
Cons: You need to keep the window closed as you are downwind of the refinery.
6.7 Good
Pros: Nice view of Seto Inland Sea, room is big, about 3 times that of the 8 tatami beds room.
Cons: The place is far away from all businesses. Actually it sits right next to a huge shipyard and there are all sorts of chemical plants near by. The closest eatery and convenient store is about 5km away.

Pros: The hot spring. And the free ramen served as a late-night supper.
Cons: Quite small room and bed size.
4.0 Okay
Pros: location was a short walk from the station and right at the entrance to the old town
Cons: This is not a tourist hotel, but a very basic Japanese business hotel. very little English spoken. I stayed at dormy in Nara which was excellent and I was expecting the same level
8.0 Excellent
Pros: room is not big but comfortable, like their pillows and quilts very much, soft and cozy, big public bathroom with onsen is the attraction to us afterall, it comes with indoor and outdoor with spacious bath area. it's super relaxing after a long day walk outside for sightseeing. hotel even provides free ramen in the evening at 9.30pm although we didn't take it. free coffee and tea are also serviced at the lobby for the day. hotel is right across the street of the main attractions of white wall and streams, as well as the 2 temples, shopping street is right by the river, along with eateries and restaurants.
Cons: the construction of exterior wall somewhat block the view and we had to close the curtain throughout the stay, there was no construction nor no noise maybe due to holiday season.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The room is clean and the bed was very comfortable. The staff are friendly and helpful. They speak English pretty well.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Location is great. The twin room was larger than most business hotel rooms. Very comfy beds, sleepwear provided, the nightly noodles, the option to have the ecoplan and the staff that tried their best.
Cons: Still very little space to open luggage. The onsen was partially closed for repairs.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Right next to Kurashiki Bikan Historical Quarter. It's very nice for having been allowed to check in early. Like other Dormy Inn locations, it's really nice to have free soba meal for supper. The onsen is very nice with the natural hot spring.
Cons: The facility is a bit aged. Construction is being carried out on the external facade, making the room lacking the outside view. The outdoor onsen water is not hot enough.

7.9 Good
Pros: We booked two rooms one room for 2 adults and 2 children has been remolded but another room still has the dated deco from the 90s and feel unpleasant.
Cons: Rooms but renewed
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Almost everything
8.8 Excellent
Pros: It was interesting to stay in a conservation building although the family room we stayed in was very recently renovated. It was spacious and wandering around the hotel was interesting due to the display of artwork and historical tidbits. The layout of the family room was great and the beds were comfortable.
Cons: The enthusiasm and helpfulness of the reception staff was inconsistent. When we first arrived, a rather solemn man met us and muttered about the parking arrangement. We don’t speak Japanese and he tried in a very lacklustre fashion to communicate with us and it got on my nerves because he was just mumbling and making little eye contact. I’ve never had such insincere service in a Japanese hotel.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything about this hotel is excellent- from the staff , who spoke fluent English, checking you in to the immaculate room, to the spacious 3 soaking tubs public bath.
Cons: Loved this hotel the best on a two week trip!

Cons: Room was a bit small
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Really nice setting, a beautifully restored complex in an historic part of town, so very nice for an evening stroll. A lot of facilities on site - bar and restaurant, which we didn't visit. I appreciated the bathhouse. Service was helpful and efficient. What was a really nice touch was to find an English-language newspaper outside my room on the door, provided complementary in the morning - this kind of attention to detail is really appreciated.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Really in the heart of historical village. Lovely place.

Pros: Dated property but clean. Location to the museum and waterway was great.
Cons: Slightly dated but clean and good working conditions.
7.0 Good
Pros: Even though the hotel is a bit old and tired, the location was great and rooms large by Japan standards, close to train, shopping mall and the historical Bikan Chiku area. As we were visiting family the availability of washing machine and a microwave made our lengthy stay easy. Although we didn't have the restaurant breakfast, it looked great. Staff very friendly and use a language translator device to assist in communication. Western style bathroom with shower over bath, tea making equipment and a small fridge in room too.
Cons: Beds and pillows are a bit hard.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The location was ideal for sightseeing. We could walk from the station and also the the old historic district.
7.0 Good
Pros: Location is perfect. Three minutes walking, then you will see Bikan-chiku (where you can see nice atmosphere and shops). 15:00-10:00 parking 1000 yen in their property is good. Breakfast was good, but not very western style (according to western people)
Cons: The road to get to the parking is very narrow. A little bit dirty ceiling in the bathroom. Bed mattress is very hard.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Close to historical Bikan area, Good, character and lovely staff. Beautifully clean.
7.9 Good
Pros: Great location at one end of the old canal and a short walk from the train station and food
Cons: Slightly tired and worn but clean and functional, can’t be beat for the price
