9.6 Excellent (73 reviews)
S$ 255+
Overview Reviews
Stay the night on the Mississippi River – literally – at the Covington Inn. This houseboat is trimmed stem to stern in mahogany, brass and bronze, extending to guests the elegant comfort once reserved aboard historic work vessels for company executives and VIPs. Windows and portals in the boat's tiered design draw light into each room. Sleeping quarters feature a mix of ingenious built-in cabinets with simple furnishings from the Covington's work era. Salvaged fixtures, nautical antiques and historic art provide tasteful reminders of the river and the inn's past life. Sitting permanently moored within the reflection of downtown St. Paul's towering skyline, The Capitol, museums, theater, fine dining and shopping wait just across the bridge. Offering a place for both a quiet getaway and the city spree, the Covington does it all. Beyond the privacy of the staterooms, the salon provides a comfortable gathering place. Lit with clerestory windows and furnished with fireside couches and window-front tables, the salon offers a great place for breakfasting, letter writing and browsing through the Covington library of historic river and shipping books. Our breakfasts, cooked in the boat's galley, pamper you with just a touch of the gourmet while fueling a full-day's exploration.

Pros: The location was great.
Cons: The staff seemed to cater to the "rich". The price for the room led me to believe that the room and amenities would be outstanding. The staff was less than inviting and our only interactions involved us being asked if we were guests. I have stayed in nicer hotels for a fraction of the price, I would never recommend this hotel to anyone.

Cons: Some staff were surly, message system incomprehensible; for a "Landmark" the hotel was a disappointment. They claim 4 stars but they are more like a way overpriced 3.

5.0 Okay
Pros: The partial view of the Mississippi river from our window was nice.
Cons: The sheets were never immaculate - either there was a hole in it or there were black flecks on what were supposed to be white sheets. Also, the curtains were dusty. Lastly, the fire alarm sounded on our final morning (5am-ish) there and there was a smoky smell but it turned out to be some air vent issue. However, management didn't even inform us of this immediately. I was pretty panicked but management didn't take initiative to calm and inform us of the details of the situation. We had to go the front desk find out.

Pros: It was clean, the rooms were well laid out and not claustrophobic, the location was good and the pool was unusual and great.
Cons: The breakfast, though with hot options, was fairly basic.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Location was convenient. It was quiet throughout the night. Appreciated the breakfast each morning.
Cons: We were looking forward to the hot tub, and it was nice, but looked pretty dingy, like it had not been cleaned in a while, and the jets shot water up along the wall instead in towards the people sitting in the tub.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff were always close by for any questions or concerns. The staff were very accommodating, and worked very well with my check in times.
Cons: The only problem I had seen was that the parking lot was very icy and slippery even though the last couple days have been well above 32°, and there are a lot of thick snow/icy areas making it sketchy to get in and out of cars.
4.0 Okay
Cons: The breakfast was stale every day. They were out of a lot often. The waterslide was only open weekends, so when we booked to check in Saturday we only were able to use the slide one time. We stayed until Wednesday. We were ALL super disappointed...this is the reason we booked THIS hotel over others. We asked for connecting rooms, we were given one that had a door and one without. Told they didn't open when they did. Asked for a different room, and they said they don't connect (when they do) we booked two rooms because of the size of our family, having four kids 10 and under. We didn't get connecting rooms in the end. The pool had no towels and ants from beer left out the night before when we went swimming Sunday evening. It was gross. Dirty.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff were very friendly, and the rooms were spacious and had what we needed! The pool area was also very nice. The lady in the breakfast area was particularly lovely, and stopped and chatted with our family a few times.
Cons: We found the hotel was a bit further from city centres than we thought, but it was still a fairly good location. Target and Trader Joe’s are very close by! I was also not a fan of the breakfast, but that was personal preference.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: cleaning staff was nice. fun slide in the pool.
Cons: no
10.0 Excellent
Pros: No hassles; continental breakfast; checkout time
Cons: everything was great!

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Was great
Cons: No complaints
9.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff is always very polite and friendly and helpful. The rooms are a great value and the perfect location. It is nice to have a refrigerator and microwave in the room.
Cons: The rooms can be warm. The temperature is always set very high when you arrive. And it's takes time for the room to cool down. The bathrooms are not dirty by any means, but the fans and walls could use a scrubbing.
7.0 Good
Pros: The evening staff was very polite and accommodating. The housekeeper was lovely. The price was great.
Cons: The temperature control did not allow for a cooler room. It was extremely hot. And the smell from the pool wafted through the whole building. The day front desk staff was not very friendly.
5.4 Okay

Cons: First room door wouldn’t lock, had to change rooms. The second room we booked the carpets were soaked, moved that room, same problem
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Really neat place. Glad we stayed there.
Cons: No
10.0 Excellent
Pros: When you walk inside the front entrance it looks like a small village. Railroad tracks through the inside. There is a small bar inside, no need to go back out if you didn’t want to. There is a smaller building inside that served as a breakfast area. Plenty of seating and a good selection of food. Beds were comfy and rooms were clean. We will definitely visit again.
Cons: The parking area is not too inviting. And the entrance doesn’t look like an entrance.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I didn't get to eat breakfast because I had to leave really early. The hotel was beautiful.
Cons: I wish I could have had breakfast.
10.0 Excellent

3.0 Mediocre
Pros: The size of the room was nice. The staff was helpful. The eggs were good at the breakfast.
Cons: The bathtub was plugged and was almost unusable. I was unable to take a shower because I didn't want to stand in inches of water. The breakfast was very crowded in the area that it was set up in and the lines to make waffles, pancakes, etc. was too long

Pros: Respect
Cons: Chip paint was in my bath water

Pros: nothing
Cons: Worst experience in my life. Room had blood stains on the wall, bed was ready to fall apart, we arrived at 8:00 pm and left before 10:00 pm after 6 policeman were pounding on door beside us. They laughed as we were leaving stating this was a quiet night!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The peace and quiet
1.0 Poor
Cons: Well I booked. When I got there they was full. Said y'all always still book. It was late, car broke nd had a 4 yr old nd all our stuff out of car to be told "full". Mind you we was dropped off by a cab. So there goes more moneyfor cab elsewhere. Bad
1.0 Poor
Pros: Nothing it was cold in room. The only thing I liked was t.v. stations..t.v. Was mounted to high on the wall made it uncomfortable to watch.. Toilet didn't flush properly..all in all never going back..
Cons: Had bed bugs in first room
5.0 Okay
Pros: the location and that i was given a ride to the library by the manager.

Pros: Coffee
Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great prices and convenient location
4.0 Okay
Pros: There was no breakfast, location ok
4.0 Okay
Pros: It is a icky hotel but already knew that.
2.5 Mediocre
Cons: There was an overwhelming smell of Mary Jane and cigarettes. People fighting outside in the hallway near our room. The smell of “ alfalfa” and cigarettes made its way into our room. Needless to say I did not get any sleep. The whole purpose for purchasing the hotel was obviously to get rest before bringing my husband to the airport. I accomplished one and not the other. Instead I had to sleep in my car in the airport parking garage. I don’t recommend this motel 6 if you want sleep. However if you enjoy smoking the devils lettuce and sharing your dirty laundry for all the world to hear, you can do it at this motel 6.

6.0 Good
Pros: Great location.. Pool..and it was actually very clean hotel
Cons: The other guests were very loud...one night people were fighting in the hallway and police came. Heard someone screaming 'help me!' At like 4 in the morning...
7.0 Good
Pros: We chose the DIM based on its location close to the green line which got us to to our ultimate destination without needing to drive. My top 3 rating criteria for hotels are: shower, beds, internet. Although we did not shower there, the bathroom was clean and there was a new shower massage shower head, so I am assuming that the shower experience would be a good one. The beds were very comfortable and we had a great night's sleep. And the internet worked well, with strong reception even though we were staying at the far end of the motel. I also appreciated having a refrigerator and microwave. The coffee maker could have been bigger, but there was lots of coffee available in the lobby, so that wasn't an issue. Our two-double-beds room was bigger than most, with a small desk and two chairs. Good black-out curtains as well as sheers. There was a safe in the room as well. The lady at reception was very nice and helpful and kept the coffee urn going in the morning! Both check-in and check-out were quick and painless. We plan to revisit the area and will most likely stay here again.
Cons: Although the hotel is clean and efforts have been made to update the important things (shower head, mattresses, carpeting, etc.) it could use more renovating. Some of the furniture was heavily scarred, for example. But those were cosmetic issues, and it seemed to me that they are working their way through them. For some reason, our bedside fixture which consisted of two upper lights and a bottom light, was missing the light bulbs in the two upper lights. We worked around that, but that should be addressed. There is a dearth of wall outlets, too. The only one that was easily accessible had the tv and a floor lamp plugged into it. We had to unplug the tv so we could get my laptop plugged in. Also, that entire wall outlet was controlled by a light switch by the door. It took us a bit to figure that out - if you use the switch by the door to turn off the floor lamp, you have also cut power to the television. A small sign by the switch might make things a bit less confusing. There are two outlets in the nightstand fixture so you can charge your phone(s) without any problems. It was very, very cold when we stayed there and it didn't look like the parking lot had been plowed at all. It was full of snow and very icy. I can see how keeping this clear may be a problem for a hotel parking lot where guest vehicles are parked at all times, but some sand would have made the footing less treacherous.

3.0 Mediocre
Pros: The location was great.
Cons: The staff seemed to cater to the "rich". The price for the room led me to believe that the room and amenities would be outstanding. The staff was less than inviting and our only interactions involved us being asked if we were guests. I have stayed in nicer hotels for a fraction of the price, I would never recommend this hotel to anyone.
5.0 Okay

Cons: Some staff were surly, message system incomprehensible; for a "Landmark" the hotel was a disappointment. They claim 4 stars but they are more like a way overpriced 3.

Pros: LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION The staff was very helpful and polite.
Cons: Not very many amenities. I would like free breakfast. Access to my vehicle once parked would be nice too.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Clean, modern, comfortable. Staff was quick with any requests.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great experience. We stayed there to go see a St. Paul Saints game, and it was centrally located, a nice hotel, good staff, good facilities. I really enjoyed it. Nice of view as well.
4.0 Okay
Pros: The bar
Cons: The hotel needs attention with repairs and overall appearance. Not at a 4 star level. Room was worn down and so warm/hot and we were unable to change thermostat. Very uncomfortable as we were so hot we could not sleep.
