10.0 Excellent
Pros: It was absolutely heaven. Couldn't have asked for a better experience. The perfect remote onsen for a relaxing outdoor hot spring bath with snow.
7.9 Good
Pros: Great onsen place with fantastic outdoor onsen scenery. The staffs were attentive as it was more of a family run business. We had to cross a one lane bridge to the hotel which was fantastic as it overlooks the beautiful river. Free shuttle bus to the ski resort which was about 10 minutes drive away.
Cons: Couple of bugs dropping down from the ceiling lamp and crawling around our futon beds. Meals were quite bland can't taste any dashi stock in the soups. Internet was only available in the lobby not in the rooms which was very inconvenient.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Most relaxing place I've ever stayed. Excellent staff and owner

Pros: Despite staying only one night, they offered full taxi service (collecting us from the station, bringing us to the ski slopes, taking us back to the hotel and than back to the station). And breakfast was a full Japanese breakfast, with like 5 or 6 bowls with all sort of delicious things. We could cheaply rent ski gear, and got a good discount on ski passes.

Cons: I don’t like the shared toilets and showers.

Pros: Location, Room, Facilities, Meal and Staff was excellent
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Good location and very nice staff. I like the Futon and hot spring.
Cons: Hair dryer is not good. It takes a really long time for my fine hair to dry
7.5 Good
Pros: My friend wanted to stay at at least one Ryokan during our stay and after long searches on booking.com I chose this one because of its proximity to the train station that was on a Shinkansen route. Staff: The staff was very nice and accommodating. Of all the properties we stayed this time around, this one had the speediest response when it came to contact. When I felt that despite its proximity to the train station having a shuttle would be advisable due to our heavy luggage, they immediately responded and picked us up at the train station with their little shuttle bus. Whenever I had a question, the response was near immediate. They also offered us a welcome drink Matcha tea and gave us a booklet with the house rules in English with cute drawings. I think if anything is to be commended about the hotel, it's the friendly staff. They also have a little souvenir shop with local and beautiful artisanal products. Facilities: Despite being old, the shower/bathtub was ok. We did have a fantastic view into the fish pond so we could see the koi fishes swimming around. I couldn't go, but my friend went to the public onsen and said it looked just like in the pictures. As she went rather late, there was practically no one around. Please keep in mind that each day they change the male and female onsen at around midnight. Cleanliness: Despite the stains from long use of the room, the room itself was spotlessly clean. They also asked us when we would head out to make sure the cleaning staff had enough time. Comfort: Thankfully there were also chairs and a table in a semi-separate area rather than only the flat table where you're supposed to sit kneeling. Location: There are a lot of small restaurants in walking distance, as is the rope way to nearby mountains. The train station is part of a Shinkansen route so if you have the JR Pass you'll have no trouble getting there.
Cons: Facilities: This being a Ryokan I expected the hard futons and pillows, but there was basically no alternative if you wanted to use a softer pillow to not twist your neck while sleeping. Our room was a Japanese style room, which was nicely set up but certainly had seen better days. There were stains on some of the walls and on the sliding screen at the window. Some stains were visible on the blanket as well, thought that was covered by a duvet. It certainly could do with a renovation. Comfort: As mentioned, the beds/pillows were super hard, which is however to be expected in a Ryokan. Having an alternative to the rock hard pillows would have gone a long way though. Location: Though it looks really near on a map, you may want to ask for the free shuttle if you're traveling with a lot and/or heavy luggage. T Value for money: I honestly kind of wish we had stayed the time we spent here in Tokyo. I think it just didn't fit what we were looking for. If it hadn't been for a little festival happening on the second day of our stay right at the street we were staying, I think we would've been bored out of our minds by then. The room didn't feel as though it was worth the money that they charged, considering it really could do with a little renovating. I assume from the pictures that other rooms may have been better value for money. At check out I was charged a bathing fee (I assume because my friend went to the public onsen once, whereas I didn't) and some other charges, so the price wasn't the same as given by booking.com. It wasn't a whole lot more than what I thought it would be, but I think it's important to keep in mind there might be additional charges.

Pros: Exceptional ryokan experience. Friendly staff and very fluent in English. Nice onsen. Definitely coming back!

10.0 Excellent
Pros: A very short walk from the station, though you do have to go up a short slope through the carpark (difficult for those lugging bags with no wheels, like I was), the height does help give the hotel nice views for the rooms. Buffet Breakfast is served with local Japanese cuisine. There's grilled fish, (with live grill for you to re-grill the food yourself), Oden, mapo tofu, etc..; western scrambled eggs, waffles, bacon and the usual. There's an onigiri station as well. There's a Konbini right opposite, which can get crowded at meal times.

Cons: WiFi not working

10.0 Excellent
Pros: The surrounding of the hotel was serene and it was just infront of the Echigo Yuzawa station. They provide transport to the station too even though it is just across the road. We booked the onsen for private use and had the whole onsen to ourselves for 45 mins......
Cons: All was perfect
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Buffee breakfast has both western and Japanese food choices. Local rice tastes great and is highly recommended. Location is great, a few minutes walk to the train station. Hotel hot springs is among one of the best in Yuzawa area hotels, providing various brands of shampoos and body washes.
Cons: It would be much better if dinner could offer more choices.

9.6 Excellent
Pros: The food and staff were amazing!
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Stayed at Sierra Hotel June 26-27 2019. Service was super attentive with email communication and help on using public transportation as well as food allergies. Overall it was an outstanding visit.
Cons: If I were to find any negatives it'd be the bathrooms, but not a major complaint. They were still very clean but just had a little sewer order which seems to be somewhat common in Japan. FYI, my kids never noticed the odor. The only other communication would be about the onsen use. maybe a little more information on how to get the robes at front desk and use room towels. I couldn't seem to find that info in their well written guide inside room but maybe I missed it. Overall, I'd be very happy and willing to stay here again over other onsens in Yuzawa. I absolutely agree with 9+ rating!
4.0 Okay
Cons: No Yukata allowed in dining room, whereas T-shirts and slippers are ok. Very noisy crowd in the onsen.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The experience overall was delightful, the only heck up was one of the front desk gentlemen didn’t want to help us to get a taxi while everyone else helped during our stay. The hotel wasn’t the most convenient location thus getting a taxi to explore go outside of the resort was natural and having someone at the hotel to get a taxi for us due to the barrier of language was very important. Other than that, we felt the experience was superb and we will be glad to come back.
Cons: N/a

7.5 Good
Pros: Location
Cons: All the quality of this hotel decline seriously, especially in room service staff, meal, and onsen facility. Although the price of this hotel is lower than before, the quality should keep the standard as before.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Onsen is really nice. Big room, great location.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The location was excellent - we opted for the outdoor seating area right in front of the waterfall. So serene and the exact thing that we needed to get away from the busy city. Staff members were excellent
Cons: nothing
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Loved the 6th floor variety of baths - 5 outdoor different hot pools & 1 big indoor pool. And 2 more on 7th floor . The wide breakfast buffet spread was also very good .
Cons: Nothing in particular .
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Environment around the hotel.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: What. A beautiful hotel. The Onsen baths were so lovely and relaxing, I can’t think of anywhere better to soak! And the food, well, we were stuffed after every meal, such good food. Our room was excellent, and the staff can’t do enough to help, just wonderful. I’ll be going back for sure!
Cons: I didn’t know there was a hotel shuttle bus that could have picked us up from the train station, it wasn’t obvious as part of the booking process. It would have been nice if that was clearer.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I stayed in the Japanese Style with public onsen bath and Halfboard plan. I got the corner that has almost like panoramic view of the mountain and the city. Dinner was excellent. We had dinner in the private room and a dedicated staff taking care of us. The seafood dishes were fresh and delicious. The main dish are not the same each night (I stayed 2 nights here). Hotel is not too far to walk to the convenience store, train station and Ropeway. On 6F and 7F, there are 4 onsen bathrooms. If you can manage the time to use all of 4 public onsen rooms, it will be fantastic and fun experience. There are many types of onsen for you to some yourself into; the one in the cave and deep pool with bubble jet stream are the best for me.
Cons: The breakfast is just okay to my taste, but also plenty of foods provided and nice views of waterfall from the breakfast dining room.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: We had big luggages, so I requested for pick-up at the JR station which the hotel promptly reply that they will be waiting to pick us up at the given time. So nice :) Pleasantly surprised that our huge and beautiful room came with a private bath too! Dinner is fantastic and Buffet Breakfast had a wide range to choose. Free shuttle bus back to the station for our onward journey too.
Cons: NO. Everything is perfect,.

7.5 Good
Pros: Very handy that the hotel offers a free pick up and drop off service from the train station as it is a bit out of town. They also dropped us into town for dinner (we got a taxi back), but they do offer meals at the hotel. The Japanese style room had beautiful tatami flooring and comfortable futons/duvets, plus a TV and fridge. The staff were very welcoming, and even though they didn't speak English we managed to communicate well. The Japanese style breakfast was the best I've had!
Cons: Our room had its own ensuite bathroom (unusual in ryokan) but it was very small. However handy to not have to go down the corridor to the toilet.
7.5 Good
Pros: It has a nice small onsen in the same building. Was fairly priced compared to other ryokans in the area. Enough Parking space, I went with my bike and the staff confirmed the weather as they were worried.
Cons: Quite old building, the sound isolation between rooms is not that great. The rooms are not that big, I had one for 4 people but I imagine it should be quite cramped. Fortunately I was alone.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The staff are very hospitable and friendly. They are extremely helpful.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Staffs are good. There was only our family in the hotel during that period. Then, The breakfast was Japaneses style. That's great. Room is very comfort. The location is only 10 min drive to Gala Yuzawa station. They also provide the rubber booth and sled to us for going to Ski resort. Onzens are very clean. Car park and elevator are good.
Cons: Due to only us in the hotel, they closed the heater in the public area. Then, it was very cold out of the bedroom.
9.4 Excellent
Pros: Great service. Onsen allowed tattoos.
Cons: Received a room that had been smoked in before but was able to open windows and enjoy beautiful mountain air

Facilities are a little old, but it is still very clean and no weird smell. Little surprises everywhere in the room; deodorizer spray for the room, little flasks of cold and hot water, teapot set and a little snack. Room was spacious and there were two sinks for washing-up! No need to fight with your partner on who gets to brush their teeth first in the morning.

Pros: Very helpful and friendly staff and good rooms. Perfect location. Not the first time we have stayed and we will definitely go back.
Cons: Nothing.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Location is excellent. Easy to get there from Echigo-Yuzawa by bus. Just 20 min. Rope way to the Kagura ski area on the opposite side of the read. The owner of hotel and his family are very nice and hospital.
Cons: No 7/11 around, just few places to eat around hotel.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Hospitality is good and I like the kitchen area
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Distance to the ski slope.
Cons: .
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Great place to stay when going skiing. Would go back.
Cons: Nothing.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I think this place is the best value for Echigo Yuzawa. Rooms are very comfortable. The owner Nori and his wife are super nice people. The location is amazing, right across from the Mitsumata ropeway. And they have beds!! Most places in this price range only offer futons. Excellent place to stay.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Nori San the owner and his family were great and helpful. They have a lovely family with a lovely daughter and working happily together. They have provided helpful information of the the surrounding area and help to make reservations for places as we don’t understand Japanese. Near to ski slope which was a bonus. Place was nice and cozy. Will recommend staying here for value and fun.
Cons: Bathing facility wasn’t great for now but it will be renovated in May this year and trust you will like this place after that.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: So close to the lifts, they also provide ski or snowboard rental and sell resort pass with discount price. The place is clean and comfy, will stay again if go back there :)
Cons: Nope
7.9 Good
Pros: Easy to go to the inn by bus at Echigo Yuwaza train station and good location about 100 meters from Mitsumata ropeway. It is much like a hostel where you can cook and there is a kitchen and common resting area. Owner is very friendly. You can rent ski and snowboard and get discounted lift pass. The tidy room is quite small but the price reflects that.
Cons: It would be better to have tea pot for guests so that there is no need to walk downstairs and upstairs for getting a cup of hot water at kitchen. Not allow to drink coffee in room and no tea bags provided. A bit noisy comes from heater and cars from main road. No restaurant nearby and you need to walk about 600 meters to cars rest station 道駅 before 5:30pm for supper. It is not easy when snows fall. Or you can purchase frozen or instant noodle from owner. So it is recommend to buy enough food first and you can cook at the inn if you like. The other option is to taxi or bus to train station (see timetable) where many good restaurants located. Wifi is poor and can only connect at common area.

Cons: Hair dryer is not good. It takes a really long time for my fine hair to dry

Pros: Location
Cons: All the quality of this hotel decline seriously, especially in room service staff, meal, and onsen facility. Although the price of this hotel is lower than before, the quality should keep the standard as before.

Pros: Onsen is really nice. Big room, great location.

Pros: The location was excellent - we opted for the outdoor seating area right in front of the waterfall. So serene and the exact thing that we needed to get away from the busy city. Staff members were excellent
Cons: nothing

Pros: Loved the 6th floor variety of baths - 5 outdoor different hot pools & 1 big indoor pool. And 2 more on 7th floor . The wide breakfast buffet spread was also very good .
Cons: Nothing in particular .

Pros: Environment around the hotel.
