Bet El Kerem Guesthouse - Aswan - Building
3
8.4 Excellent (96 reviews)
S$ 39+
Overview Reviews
Located in front of the Tombs of the Nobles in Aswan, Bet El Kerem offers rooms with air conditioning. Its rooftop terrace has panoramic views of the desert and the Nile. The rooms at Guesthouse Bet El Kerem are simply furnished and are located in two buildings. One building has a view to the Nile, while the other looks onto the desert and Tombs of Nobles. All rooms have private bathrooms. Guests can relax at the rooftop terrace. Guests can enjoy local Nubian dishes as well as international cuisine at the restaurant. It is also possible to participate in a Nubian cooking workshop. Bet El Kerem’s 24-hour reception can help arrange various activities, such as a camel safari, sailing trips, and horse riding. The guest house also offers bicycle rental. Guesthouse Bet El Kerem is within walking distance of the local ferry, which brings guests in 10 minutes to Aswan’s city centre.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The view from the roof is exceptional
Cons: Morning food.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Abdel and his staff make the enjoyment of your stay their top priority. Everyone is kind, attentive and generous. The food was delicious, the beds were clean and comfortable and whatever you may want to do for the day is at your fingertips. Bet el Kerem has been the highlight of our time in Egypt so far.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great location over looking the tombs of the nobles which is well worth a visit. The colors are incredible. All the staff were very helpful. The food was the best we’d had in Egypt. I’m glad we chose to have dinner here. We highly recommend this place and would love to stay here again! Wish we had booked more than 1 night.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I loved everything. The guest house is on the West Bank which means you're isolated from the busy city and the noise. But it's also 2 mins from the local ferry which means you can reach the city in less than 10 mins for 2 pounds without any hassle unlike gharb soheil island. It's the perfect balance between calm and accessibility. The guest house is very clean and the breakfast is very good. We also had lunch twice there and it was excellent. Abu Karim, the owner, makes amazing food, is very generous with the quantities and constantly checks if we're happy and if we want anything. The roof is very cute, it's where you have breakfast/lunch and you can just chill there. They have tea and coffee available all the time, mineral water, and an assortment of fruits, all of which are free of charge. The staff is super nice and helpful. I enjoyed my stay a lot, and I'll definitely be going back there.
Cons: The bathroom in our room doesn't have walls, it's in the corner of the room with curtains around it. This made it a bit uncomfortable for us to use the toilet because it's awkward when other people are in the room and also you worry about the smell. However, there are several bathrooms outside the rooms so it compensates for the room's bathroom and it didn't affect our stay at all. Using the shower in the room was good, I didn't need to use the one outside.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The silence
8.0 Excellent
Pros: We had a great stay at Bet El Kerem guesthouse. The house itself is an old Egyptian family house with a beautiful garden and sparkling clean common areas. Great rooftop with dining area and Nile view. The breakfast cooked on site every day is delicious, especially shakshuka and taameya (Egyptian falafel). Location is very convenient 5 minutes walk from the arrival of the West Bank ferry. The guesthouse also houses a travel agency which organises activities in and around Aswan (camel safari, trip to Abu Simbel, felucca ride to Kom Ombo) with excellent service providers and at prices much lower than the ones proposed on cruise ships for example. The owner Abdel is very helpful and takes care of every detail along the way. Definitely a very good pick for a 4-5 days stay in Aswan, the wonderful capital of Nubia
Cons: The only negative point was the shortage of hot water in the bathrooms' hotel, which is hard during Egyptian winter! This should be fixed soon but better to check status with the owner before arriving.
7.5 Good
Pros: Convenient location close to the ferry on Aswan West, away from the city stress.
Cons: Internet and air conditioning not working most of the time.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very cozy, staff really friendly
9.6 Excellent
Pros: This the perfect place to stay for anyone who likes to have a more personal and local experience. We liked the fact that it was a home from home with fruit, chilled water, teas and coffee to help ourselves to at any time. The house was decorated in the Nubian style, painted a bright blue with bright fabrics and soft furnishings. Its slight imperfections were its charm. The roof terrace was laid out for dining and relaxing and was cool and quiet. The garden was likewise a quiet and shady place to sit or walk round. Our host, Abdul couldnt have been more welcoming or taken more trouble to ensure our stay was enjoyable. He even did our washing and arranged for ironing. He is a great cook and serves a fresh buffet and meal in the evenings and willingly prepared vegetarian food for us. He also arranged a good driver for a return trip to Abu Simbel which was a fantastic day out (including a large packed breakfast). We really enjoyed getting the ferry to the East Bank which was quick and runs constantly.
Cons: There is nothing we didnt like
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The local connection was incredible. Abdul was an amazing host and showed us true Nubian hospitality. Breakfast was delicious and the two dinners we had prepared by the onsite cook were incredible. We loved sitting on the roof-top terrace, overlooking the nile and the Noble tombs, and enjoying the quietness of the area. It was also fun to take the local ferry across the Nile, away from the hoards of tourist crowds.
Cons: Everything was fantastic@
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Best food we've had in Egypt. Their food is much better than in those expensive restaurants in Aswan. We enjoyed watching sunset and sunrise from the rooftop looking at the desert and the Nile. Sparkling clean. Mr. Abdel is knowledgable and took good care of us. When I go
Cons: None

10.0 Excellent
Pros: The place itself was beautiful with a stellar view. The food was delicious. Most importantly, our host Khaled, was the most sincere and helpful person ever. He arranged Abu Simbel tour for us as well as made sure we went to the Kalabsha Temple with his car. He also dropped us to the train station himself and had his cousin pick us from the airport. Everyone else at the property is also very friendly. It felt like home and we would definitely go back again!
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Khaled who is owner of the guest house is main man. His attention to customers is everything. He doesn't have all ultra modern gadgets in hand but his attitude to help you makes all the difference. He treats his guests more like a family member.
Cons: Internet connection is poor. But tell you what I am glad I didn't have that to really bother about constantly updating folks back home. Enjoyed peace and serenity of a quaint village . Sitting on terrace day and night and watching Nile flow was amazing experience.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: My husband and I spent a vivid vacation at Eka Dolli guest house, one should say that this was real hospitality with kind and helpful staff Ibrahim and Tallat, in particular, were extremely nice and continued working all the time to guarantee that we have the best vacation. Khalid the owner is an honest and kind person with a wide smile. The food is beyond delicious thanks to the great Chef ♥ Rooms are clean with private bathrooms and AC . 4 days in heaven and we will be coming back next year! Thanks ♥ p.s this was my second visit to Eka Dolli and we are coming for a third longer visit:D
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful hotel located in an amazing location. The rooftop terrace is a great place to spend your evenings overlooking the Nile. The staff are very helpful. Be sure to go for a walk around the village, everyone is very friendly and there is a great spot to swim in the Nile. The food served at the hotel is delicious, some the best meals we’ve had in Egypt.
Cons: The tours we booked would not pick us up from this hotel as they said it was too far out of Aswan. If you do plan to spend a lot of time in Aswan City, transport costs can add up. Would be helpful to know a bit of Arabic as staff’s English is limited.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This is a fabulous guesthouse. Yes, it is away from the centre of Aswan, but that is exactly what I wanted. Khaled is the perfect host, and I felt very welcome, especially as I was travelling solo. Khaled also provided transportation when need as well as arranging my tour to Abu Simbel. I highly recommend a stay at Ekadolli in the Gharb Soheil Nubian Village. It is peaceful, cultural and food is amazing. Great value for money.

Cons: A bit old stylish hotel. Noisy corridors.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The transportation during the stay was very nice by motor boat, the view was spectacular the gardens are well maintained, everyone was friendly, the atmosphere and the whole stay was outstanding.
1.0 Poor
Pros: i have a problem with the staff for the reservation
2.9 Mediocre
Pros: -Room View -Breakfast
Cons: -that it is rated 5 stars -the ferry/boat is slow -once you arrive on the island, no one helps you with the luggage rightaway -once you arrive there is a small walking distance but they have small motor bikes that can pick you from the marina to the entrance but they are not being used -checkin staff is miserable! They don’t know what they are doing, they don’t have a uniform and then joke around normally, they allow guests to smoke on the checkin counter, they don’t offer assistance they wait for you to ask, lastly, some of them what they are wearing is not even clean. (They have good manners though) -Elevator is too old -Heating/ac in the room is not working and has a loud noise -room is not even clean, dust everywhere -windows and balcony doors are not sealed closed -on Aswan marina, they don’t have a proper representative -all of the above would be acceptable if the hotel was rated as 2 star which they should be.
7.1 Good
Pros: Stunning location on an island in the Nile. The ferryboat operators were especially courteous and helpful, but the entire staff showed dedication to accommodating guest service requests.
Cons: Seedy rooms and infrastructure in the main building reflected the decline in tourist visits. Could use a major cleanup and renovation.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Every thing
Cons: Nothing
7.1 Good
Pros: Staff were extremely friendly and always willing to help. The views from the hotel are stunning. Very good shower.
Cons: This is at most a three to four star hotel. It is in bad need of upgrading. If you need WIFI then stay away. It only works occasionally in the Lobby. The Spa is extremely disappointing. Most things are out of order. The hotel is on an Island which makes it difficult to get to as the boat service is not very regular.
7.1 Good
Cons: The cleaning wasn’t good in our room
7.7 Good
Pros: the location is second to none, looking at so many trees and flowers with Nile views all around.Handy motorboat service to the town. Taking a leisurely motorboat trip into the area around the hotel was magic.I saw many birds and the time of day I chose to go,4pm is just perfect for photographing the area. The room had 2 balconies it also had tv fridge a large bed and a marble ensuite. This was a little tired though but anything required was seen to by housekeeping straight away. The food was good a nice varied buffet for breakfast and evening meal.A meal from room service was fairly quick and good value.
Cons: the gardening team starting to cut down some dead trees and saw up the branches (with a chain saw )at 8am on saturday morning.I know that radical gardening has to take place to encourage new growth but spring isn't the right time, anywhere!and 8am is very early. There was not enough staff for the restaurant service by the pool and I had words re a lack of change, later resolved. The food was good though. there was no a la carte restaurant,so wanting a simple meal one evening we took the motorboat to the town.

Featured amenities include a business center, dry cleaning/laundry services, and a 24-hour front desk. Event facilities at this hotel consist of conference space and a meeting room. Free self parking is available onsite.
7.0 Good
Pros: The terrace is beautiful, truly. Sitting out on the terrace in the morning enjoying an expansive lunch and some tea is wonderful. The staff are very attentive also, they are doing their absolute best. They are very kind and are the heart and soul of this place. The views over the Nile river from all over the hotel are wonderful, really you could just sit and contemplate for hours. It is a very impressive location. It is walking distance to a number of sites in Aswan - right opposite the Nubia Museum (always worth a visit), close to the Old Cataract Hotel (for tea in the afternoon) and to the Korniche (for felucca rides on the Nile). Go out and explore, you won't be disappointed. Aswan is one of the best places in Egypt.
Cons: WiFi. Single biggest issue is the lack of WiFi in the rooms. I know this is a perennial problem in Egypt (or at least I have experienced). The Hotel is a bit too tired and old to be considered a luxury hotel. All of the facilities are well maintained by the staff, however the facilities themselves have not been updated in decades. This hotel very much has the feel of faded glory - a place that when built in the 1970s was that absolute typification of luxury. The years since then have not seen the Hotel evolve in step with the times. In many ways it is an interesting cultural artifact! Also be aware that the prices they charge at the hotel for things like food and drink are far more expensive than you can get in Aswan town.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location and awesome staff
Cons: Nothing to unlike.. I advice them to promote to 5 stars hotel
5.0 Okay
Pros: the location of the hotel.
Cons: breakfast with very little choices, noisy during the night: the staff let a group of 20 -30 people make noises in the pool area till 2 am in the morning. Very unpleasant experience.
7.0 Good
Pros: We stayed in the Basma for two days and found it okay. First of, the location. Aswan is a fairly small city and while the Basma is walking distance from the Nubian museum, it's also located on the top of a hillock and makes for a decent walk to the Corniche and docks. We used to book a Careem for 15-20 EGP for each side to get to the city. The view from the hotel is excellent! They packed us an excellent breakfast pack for our trip. You can simply request one in case you have an early morning flight/trip to Abu Simbel and they're happy to help you out! The staff is super courteous and happy to help you out.
Cons: Early check-in is not an possibility, they will give you the room at 2 only and not even 15 minutes earlier.(Again a problem I faced- despite calling up earlier and requesting since we had been awake since 2am and had been travelling non-stop, we did not get our rooms earlier and had to sit in the reception area for half an hour) The hotel is clean but somehow lacking in amenities- towels were missing, in one of the rooms- they had provided a hot water kettle but no tea/coffee satchels, our shower gel's etc were not refilled on the second day etc. The Wifi is only accessible in the lobby.

Cons: Hotel was closed after booking with Orbitz and was in run down poor condition. They need to check their listings and make sure their hotels are still in business. Ana Kato did not answer my phone calls prior to arrival and Orbitz will not refund my money claiming I did not call ahead. How do you call a closed hotel? This hotel is unethical and will not refund my money claiming I did not call. The fact that Orbitz will not make things right makes it worse. DO NOT USE ORBITZ...THEY DO NOT CHECK THEIR PROPERTIES NOR TREAT THEIR CUSTOMERS WITH FAIRNESS OR RESPECT.

9.0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is great. The staff is really helpful, the rooms are clean, and it's just a really nice atmosphere. It's a great place to be. And the location just on Elephantine Island is also great: a calm part of town all of a sudden :). Breakfast was amazing. First of all on the beautiful rooftop terrace. But the amount of (different styles of) food that we got was amazing. They really know how to cook. Definitely recommend this place!
7.1 Good
Pros: The location The cleanliness
Cons: Breakfast time There was no water early in the morning. Took time to solve the problem. The missing light bulbs The lift needs maintenance. WiFi not functioning TV sets are poor quality.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent hospitality. We were given additional 4 hours for check out. We planned to goto abu simbel trip by morning 4 am, To our surprise, we had our breakfast box ready at 4 am to be taken with us.
5.0 Okay
Pros: The staff are absolutely lovely and helpful
Cons: Well most of the reviews are right with what they say
4.0 Okay
Pros: Location very convenient near train station
Cons: Rooftop and pool are out of order. Room was never cleaned. Towels were never changed. Elevator doesn't work well. Employees act strangely toward guests
5.4 Okay
Pros: The location was so close to the station, supermarkets
Cons: The hotel is so expensive compare to the quality they offer.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff is very kind, they offer tour to Abu Simbel for good prices, and they even can help you to get a ticket for a travel train.
5.0 Okay
Pros: The hotel is right in front of the train station so it's very accessible... and it's very affordable too. Good for a work stay where you just want to go sleep at night.
6.7 Good
Pros: As we arrived by train, the proximity to the train station was a great advantage for us. At arrival we were asked if we would like to book a trip to Abu Simbel, which was great as we planned so and had no idea where to get a transfer. We started early in the morning and so we got a respectable lunch box for our breakfast. The staff was nice and helpful although …
Cons: … the communication was complicated as seemingly no one spoke English The breakfast in the hotel was very basic: you get three slices of cheese, a small portion of jam and some feta cheese. You could also take some warm, stale brown beans, mashed potatoes (presumably) and eggs smelling of sulfur.

Pros: location
Cons: not clean, furnitures outdated, busted lamp, restroom is leaking. the water flows on the floor. they need to fix the bathroom fixtures.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: breakfast was good and the hotel is directly at the corniche. Stuff was very friendly and helpful especially Peter at the reception.
Cons: please more sockets in the rooms. tourists have to charge handys kameras ebooks....... and one socket next to the bed would be good

Pros: The amazing staff and the location
Cons: Nothing
3.8 Mediocre
Pros: The property was close to the train station.
Cons: The rooms are in a state of disrepair yet the price of room is high compared with Egyptian standards. Bathrooms are mouldy and old. Flat sheets are used on the bed with no mattress protector meaning the mattress is regularly exposed. Staff are only helpful if they can sell you tours (at inflated prices)
7.5 Good
Pros: We had a huge, comfortable room. Staff were friendly. Great location by the train station, ferry to the West Bank and souk.
Cons: No WiFi (it exists n theory but it’s too slow to even browse email), very expensive for a 3 star hotel, horribly designed bathroom, hard to get hot water
2.5 Mediocre
Pros: i
Cons: We ordered tour to absinael. Hotel staff tried to cheat us. tour fee should be 200egypt pondo but they offer us 30 dollar for each person. Also they said they will use private buss for 8person, however there are around 15person. To make matters worse, they were late more than 90 minutes. This hotel is terrible so i reccomend you not to book. moreover, the electricity has stopped 4 times for each night.
7.0 Good
Pros: The hotel is in a good location, the room was nice enough and I thought the food and service at the restaurant was surprisingly excellent. (The best Egyptian lentil soup I'd had the entire trip!) The manager was fantastic and was extremely helpful in arranging day trips and a Nile River cruise. (I'm sorry I can't remember his name!) After leaving the hotel he'd checked in with me a few times to make sure that all was well on the Nile cruise as well as my arrival in Luxor, which was nice.
Cons: The rooms are pretty noisy. I'd looked at one with a Nile view and there was a lot of street noise. I'd chosen another on the 2nd floor but I could hear the motor (a kind of roll and crash noise) from what I think was the elevator throughout the night. When I but on the AC, the noise from that drowned it out though. My shower was really powerful but came out boiling hot-unreal. It cooled down but its something to check on.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Great location, felt safe and clean, people are friendly and helped us with a tour to Abu Simbel for a good price.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The furnishings cleanliness, staff curtesy and location.
Cons: The food, but then it's the same type all over. Too much Egyptian style and no European style.

7.0 Good
Pros: Staff was very helpful and courteous
Cons: Electric Kettle to be provided Alley leading to the hotel was not up to the standard.
5.0 Okay
Cons: Wi fi so bad Ther is 10$ extra when you book for one night
5.0 Okay
Pros: Great location in a no frills cheap hotel that has the basics of what you need: bathroom - clean sheets, warm blankets, good internet, great location and friendly staff who try to work with you even if their English isn't great and neither is your Arabic.
Cons: Bathrooms needed work. Dirty dirty walls. Shower curtain hanging by a few broken hooks. Toilets and sinks, etc. were clean, but everything is in desperate need of refurbishing. But then again, times are tough for the Egyptian tourism.
5.0 Okay
Pros: 1- We spend a complete day without internet due to a problem & they not able to fix it. 2- Water has been disappeared from 9 pm till 6 am morning (Only for one night)
3.3 Mediocre
Pros: Location
Cons: Outside the location, the rest is rubbish, all very dirty and disgusting. Too expensive for what you offer, don't trust the pictures.
5.0 Okay
Cons: It is expensive. The whole building is old. Small room. The receptionist was not good at English.
6.0 Good
Pros: Basic budget hotel with a good location and a friendly staff who will try to help you out when possible.
Cons: The whole place needs a freshening. Times, though, are tough for Egyptian tourism. Nonetheless, it doesn't cost that much to clean bathroom walls and get new hooks for your shower curtains.
