I am disappointed with kayak because they quoted me a price. On their website and when I arrived to to Europcar I received a different quote. They informed me it was because I had booked to drop the car off at a military base, which I had no idea I had done. I was quoted 55$ or so by kayak and when I got to Europcar I had to pay 160$. I would like some sort of reimbursement from kayak for this mistake.
Terrible pick up service and car is half city away
Very tough to follow directions within Florence (pick up - drop off), realizing it is a challenging city to begin with. Better directions would help, though the staff at the office were great (language barrier). The car was amazing, zero complaints (having never driven this before).
instructions/map to pick-up location in downtown Florence was VERY poor. No signage on street and no indication that to access the rental pick up garage you had to go through the shopping mall to access the underground garage.
The agent refused to rent me the car I had reserved because he didn’t accept my legitimate drivers license which was legally acceptable for travel in Italy and I also had an International Drivers License as well. He was very rude and even swore at me. Unfortunately it left my family and I stuck taking taxis all over Florence trying to secure another last minute rental car. Since it was one of the busiest weekends of the year, all cars were sold out until the following day in which another car rental company accepted by license without issue but because we were staying far outside the city, it resulted in over $300 worth of taxis, a lost day on our trip and the car we rented was twice the cost due to having to book with no notice. Terrible terrible experience
The pick up was challenging but it’s a result of construction that’s out of the hands of the company. However, I do wish they had advertised the issue once I booked the car so I could prepare. Otherwise, it was a really easy experience.
