Cons: Small, manual clown cars, with many miles on them, no radio or music at all. the Car was too small to use on the many unpaved roads that are on the island, so I could not even go everywhere I wanted to see.

Car is not at the Airport
Pros: Nothing at all. We were lied to by Avis
Cons: We specifically booked through AVIS because Kayak both sites stated the car was IN TERMINAL. This was critical to us as we were traveling with a infant and a car seat. When we got to the AVIS desk they informed us that a shuttle would be coming to pick us up. We told the desk clerk that we chose Avis as they stated the car was located in Terminal, and paid additional money for that service. They completely lied to us and did not even have the decency to adjust the price for an offsite pick up. Do Not Use AVIS on the island.

Deception mixed with a "fair deal"
Pros: We loved the fact we were provided with a new car.
It had four doors and just enough to space for 3 people and our luggage (4 bags) although the pic provided was much better than our actual car.
Cons: The advertising states the car pick-up is located at the airport - this is NOT TRUE. There is a shuttle van that you wait in line (based on arrival at desk). The loaded all luggage and passages to travel 800 meters to a parking lot to an unair-conditioned 1 room "hut". There 5 attendants (2 who knew what to do?) helped the 15 of us process, sign paperwork, work the one 1990s style printer while the rest of the families waited outside on the curve in the sun. The process was so different that experiences stateside (welcome, show ID, here's the key). They DO NOT take AMEX! (even if your reservation was made by AMEX). If you use debit card there is a 5K hold placed? And finally make sure if want automatic indicate that...somehow two families had indicated manual or no preference and ended up riding back to airport. For us from the time we cha led in at the AVIS desk at the airport to getting our keys and driving away to enjoy our vacation was 1&1/2 hours. 100% honest...be prepared to wait lines with other frustrated patrons and process long & slow

Wrong pick up location
Cons: I booked the car to pick up at the airport. When I arrived the Avis clerk couldn't find my reservation but I showed it to her on my phone. She went ahead and sent our group on the shuttle to discuss the issue with the rental counter. We got there and the clerk said my reservation was for a different pick up location, grace bay not the airport. I ended up having to pay 75 more just to get a car at the airport. When I booked i would have never selected a location that required my group to rent a taxi to get to. It was very frustrating.

Will not rent through Kayak again
Cons: I was told when I arrived that I reserved a manual car. Then I was told I couldn't use an Amex. Horrendous. I ended up booking directly with Dollar and was happy with them.
Cons: Most car insurance agencies allow for persons under the age of 25 rent a car from them, they just have to pay a higher mandatory insurance and their deductible is higher. This place didn't specify. Had to rent with a different company and ended up paying a lot more than I would have if I had known.

Good but not what I expected
Pros: Overall the van was nice, comfortable and clean, AC worked well. We had no issues with the car.
Cons: We requested a 15 seater van.. and ended up with a 7 seater van.. problem was that there were 13 of us! We ended up renting another car through hertz. Overall the car was fine.. it was clean the AC worked it got us to places etc.. it was just initially inconvenient with a large group. Thank god we rented another car. For this reason I didn't think the money was worth it because we should have got the 15 seater van. Returning the car took a few minutes they kept directing me to different counters.. I ended up dropping the keys off on the key box.

Be warned. Look over your contract before you sign
Cons: Attendant at the airport counter did not care or want to correct her error. Although I showed her the reservation was for 5 days not 6, she refused to acknowledge that she keyed in the rental contract wrong. I had to wait an extra half hour (on top of the 45 minutes I had already waited and wasted dealing with her) to talk with a manager, who finally resolved the issue.

Cons: The off site pick up. The drop off is right there, you know I'm coming, why can't the car be in the drop of area for pick up?
The van size was listed for seven people and seven bags. The trunk was tiny. There was no way seven people with seven bags would fit in that van.

Pros: Friendly service. Efficient agents at the airport counter and at the pick up location.
Cons: The car rattled quite a bit - not sure if it was "just the way the car sounds" or if the muffler was loose. But - it ran okay.

Alamo did not have a car for us
Cons: Alamo emailed me, while I was already in flight, with no internet access, to tell me that they were sold out of cars, in spite of me having a reservation for over a month, and to call back the next morning to have a car delivered to me.
When I arrived at the airport, there was nobody working at the Alamo desk (however every other car rental counter was staffed). The other companies tried to help me out by contacting Alamo's office, and nobody answered.
I took a cab to my apartment. The next morning, I tried calling Alamo's office for over 90 minutes and there was still no answer. I eventually gave up, tried calling every other car rental agency on the island, to try to reserve a car. It was high season (Christmas day), so almost all others were sold out, but thankfully, Hertz came through with a last-minute rental due to a cancellation. It ended up costing me $400 more ( about 2/3 of the original total quoted price from Alamo), but at least I had a car, and good customer service.
I called Alamo back later in the day to let them know that I would no longer need their services, but before telling them that I had already found another car, asked them to see if my car was available yet. They said no, and that there would be no rentals available for 2 weeks! The central Alamo customer service office also blamed me for not showing up the previous night to pick up my rental!
I tried contacting Alamo's customer service to complain and to try to recoup from costs, but got nowhere, and only got a response after posting an angry tweet and message on their Facebook page. I was eventually offered one free day's rental (value of $60), and negotiated a second day's free rental coupon. The value of a 2 day rental is still significantly less than the extra charges I paid out-of-pocket for taxis, and a last-minute reservation, and the Alamo local manager still never took responsibility for what happened.
I will never rent from Alamo again after this experience.

Cons: When we returned the car, we were told to just leave it in a lot and we would be e-mailed a receipt. I prefer written documentation when I return a car that it is in satisfactory condition.

Worst rental car experience in my lifetime
Pros: The car was clean on the inside.
Cons: The clerk at the pick-up desk was rude and unwelcoming. It appeared that we were inconveniencing her. The check-in process was longer than usual and when complete, we had to wait another 20 min for the car to arrive at curbside.
The car we were given was an old, uncomfortable vehicle with 116,000 km on it.
The drop off process was equally disappointing. I did exactly what I was instructed to do and yet the staff treated me like I was doing everything wrong. The same unfriendly clerk who checked us in was there to check us out. She was even more rude during the check out process.
We often choose Alamo for our car rentals. Probably never again.

Car not available upon my arrival
Cons: After waiting in line for 40 minutes, I was told that my car was not available. I asked for it to be ready by 1 pm. It was well after that time. When I asked how long it would take to have the car ready for me, I was told they could not give me an answer, since the previous renter had returned it late. I asked it the renter would be getting a late fee and was told yes. I then asked if that fee would be passed along to me for all my trouble and was told no. I was then advised that I could rent a car quicker by going to another rental company! This is what I decided to do. So I will never rent a car from Alamo again

Pros: Was upgraded from intermediate class to luxury/full-sized with no price increase
Cons: Alamo staff on 2 occasions told me to ignore the low pressure warning for R front tire as the sensor was malfunctioning. Guess what? You're right: the R front tire was flat on day 3. The sensor did work. Called for assistance: no answer. Called the office: no answer. My fiend and I then changed the tire, using the spare donut-tire which was low also. Made it to a service station and properly inflated the spare. Needed directions to the main office as they had no sign on the road. Agent at office said no phone service as electricity was out. Ever hear of cell phones? Everyone in The T&C has one.
Turned car in at airport at end of vacation and asked for consideration for 1 day's rental fee. The answer from the agent was " No". I then stated that I might dispute the rental fee when it appeared on my credit card statement. I was then told by the agent, after a phone call to her manager, that if I disputed the billing thru my credit card company, my name would be passed to all rental car agencies on Provadenciales and I would never be able to rent any car in the future on the Island. Now, that's a threat if I ever heard one. What customer service ?

not a good experience
Cons: The price was higher than what we were quoted on line. They added an extra fee that wasn't on the original quote. Customer service at the pick-up counter was rude and not helpful at all.
Cons: Booked with American Express and upon arrival was shocked that they did not take AmEx which provides us with free insurance valid and confirmed, through them, prior to arrival. Ended up having to pay $77 for Dollar's insurance or we had to go back to the airport and find a company that did accept American Express. Saddened that Kayak would have allowed this to happen........A Very disappointing and a bad start to our vacation.

Cons: The Economy Car type is super duper weak! No good for the Island! Tiny little Suzuki that gets dented or scratched if you look at it too hard. The Island roads are rough and these cars have no business being on them!

Small car, but worked for our trip.

Cons: Thought I was getting a bigger car. Paid for a "special" Ended up be the smallest car available. One tire had a slow leak. Flat tire, but luckily has access to a bike pump and was able to fill it. Small car-very small tires!

Car was falling apart.
Pros: Pick up and drop off were quick and easy. The locations is only 2 minutes from the airport so it was very convenient.
Cons: The car was in awful condition. I realize caribean car rentals are usually a bit worse off than elsewhere, but in this case, the windshield wipers didn't work properly, the windows would get stuck down and could be rolled up until restarting the car multiple times and the interior plastic trim was falling off the seats and cutting passengers' legs.

Dollar via Kayak
Pros: The young men working at the counter were very friendly. The manager was another story, she was very unfriendly and rude to the other employees in front of us, I felt that was very unprofessional.
Cons: When we got there the car we reserved was not available. The rental company made us rent a smaller car and pay more money.
I will not rent a car from Dollar or through Kayak again.
Cons: Enterprise was out of cars, so had to move to another rental car company and negotiate, lots of run around.

Terrible Customer Service
Cons: I'm a big Enterprise user--it's usually my go-to when it comes to car rentals. So I was definitely surprised to experience such sub par customer service at Turks and Caicos. And in fact, it was more than just deplorable, it was rude and punitive. When we arrived on the island, we managed to get through customs fairly quickly and found ourselves at the Enterprise counter, pumped and ready to get our holidays started in Turks and Caicos started. But we ended up struggling to find anybody at the counter for 15 minutes with other customers starting to pile behind us. It didn't really bother us much at first because we more or less were just excited to be on the island and figured perhaps we were now on "island time".
We were then met by a young man who started to check us in and after getting the process started he jumps on the phone with his manager on the other line. This happened several times during the check in process--all conversations were inaudible and we didn't think much of it. Eventually he informed us that our current option was that they currently didn't have any Economy cars available but that they would pay for a cab to our house rental and they would bring a car when it was ready which would be about 45 minutes. We agreed, but then he told us that actually they had a car ready if we'd wait for 20 minutes. We said perfect, we'll head over to the bathroom, and after that long line for it, time would pass by.
When we got back, he informed us that the car ws actually being cleaned and it would be just another 10-15 minutes. We were fine with that and gleefully decided to wait outside to the area where he told us the car would come by any time now. 25 minutes pass by. No car. Three hotel guides and a parking attendee ask us if we needed any assistance. We happily said that we were just waiting for our car to come by. Another 5 minutes pass by and I decided to go in and politely ask what the status of the car was, if it would be coming anytime soon. He told me that it was coming, it would be there in just a few minutes. We wait. 10 minutes go by, another hotel guide asked us if we need any help. No car. Finally my boyfriend decides to see what could possibly be the hold up. The young man is no longer there, his shift had ended.
Now the manager who he had spoken to on the phone was now was manning the counter and basically met us with tension, unfriendliness, anger, and no offer of apology. We asked her what the hold up was since it's been an hour wait for us to which she quickly pointed at our contract and replied, "No it hasn't, it's 10:28am". It was currently 11:13am. 10:28am was the time the young man had printed us the slip after he finally finished checking us in--post 20 minute bathroom break upon his assistance so he could log us into the system. Needless to say, it was another 20 minutes before we ever saw the car. The manager never smiled at us, would not answer questions, and was focused on ignoring us.
Pros: Budget did not have any cars available. Had to wait until the next day to get a car from a different company. Budget did arrange for this car

I couldn't get in contact with anyone.
Cons: My flight changed and I needed to make sure that I could change the time to drop the car off early at the airport. I called Budget, but they couldn't help me. All they could do was give me the number for the office, but no one answered the phone in the office and I had to cancel the reservation.
Cons: We rented a mini-van with Hertz in Turks and Caicos. Within two days we had a blow out...the tires were in horrific condition. The steel belts were literally showing through the rubber of the tire with virtually no treads. To think that Hertz would furnish a car with such tires. Although I have changed dozens of tires, this one had a release for the spare that was under the console with a special tool that was required. No owners manual or instructions were included. I called Hertz and they wanted to charge us a service charge to come out to change the flat. It took us over an hour to figure out how the tire (located under the vehicle) could be lowered and extracted from the vehicle. I use Hertz when I travel for business and having a choice, will go with another car rental company...one that cares about the safety of me and my family.
