Pros: Yoshi and his wife are the most friendly, welcoming and helpful hosts! Their place is very clean and tidy. If I ever get the chance to go back to hakuba I will definitely be staying with yoshi!
Cons: There was nothing about the property that would put me off
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Yosh and his partner are absoultley lovely. Breakfast is wonderful. Private Onsen for your bath time. It is situated in a great location.
Cons: My only complaint is the beds. They are a bit stiff.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Staff are very friendly and helpful. Drove me to my next hotel booking. Very polite and warm people
10.0 Excellent
Pros: 1 - Value for $ 2 - Open Onsen and Indoor Onsen by booking (1hr Private session in daytime from 3 -11pm; 30 min session in morning from 6 - 7:30am; cuz there r only 6 rooms, so you can book even one time in morning, one in the afteroon and one at night) it is very refreshing and relaxing for enjoying the outdoor bath (not natural onsen) The bath tub can accomodate a pair/couple and it is on private booking, so it is a different experience from the typical public onsen/bath. 3 - location is strategic. Opposite is the Alpine Chalet stop that have bus going to Goryu, 47 (Free Groyu/47 Bus Route 5) and Happo One (Happo Free Bus HP-4). If you want to go other ski resorts like Iwatake, Tsugaike, Cortina, Norikura, Kashimayri, Sanosaka, Jigatake, etc taking the HV-1,2,3, you can walk to Hakuba Base Camp at around 5 - 10 min. 4 - Yoshi San and his wife are friendly, hard working. Pension is very clean, feeling like a home. 5 - Walking to the main street of Echoland is around 10-15 min, where you can find many good restaurants. Opposite the Pension, there are "Soba/BBQ" restaurant which is value for money; and the opposite "Ricca" Cake shop sells cakes which is very tasty! You can walk around 15 min to a supermarket called Aeon Big Super-Market, selling many food, sushi, sashimi, fruits and other stuff at very good price. Walking to another supermarket called A-Coop and Drug store (next to A-Coop) is around 20 min. Walk to Hakuba JR station is around 20 min. So many things are quite accessible!
Cons: Better to provide a microwave oven for guests self usage!

10.0 Excellent
Pros: This is an exceptional little boutique pension. It's located in Ecoland - the nicest part of Hakuba. The facilities are excellent and there are two onsens on site which are a wonderful way to relax after a big day out. I had an injury on my fist day and needed to stay at the accommodation as couldn't ski. The coziness and comfort of Belnina made this very pleasant as I really felt at home whilst recuperating. Yukata (the owner) is super friendly and so helpful. He and his wife work extremely hard to make this an outstanding experience for guests. The breakfast is excellent and always super fresh.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly staff - Yataka (owner) is very welcoming and helpful with places to ski and things to do on rest days. He even provided us with some great tips on what to see and do in Tokyo (including the Fish Markets which we weren't aware of but is right next door to our hotel in Suitengamen, Tokyo). The breakfasts each morning were well cooked and plentiful with Yataka's wife's beautiful home made apple jam and muffins popular with our entire family (and unfortunately everybody else :-) The amenities were very clean and modern and although the rooms were small (which is typical in most places in Japan), the beds were very comfortable and were Westerner size (long) that comfortably accommodated my two teenage boys who are both over 6ft 2in! We really enjoyed our stay at Hotel Belnina and Yataka's warm hospitality and will definitely stay there again on our next ski trip in a few years time.
Cons: The rooms were small (typical for most places in Japan).
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was great!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Well situated, a 5 min walk to base camp for free snow shuttles to all fields. Really good European style breakfasts. Easy access to good dinners with lots of choice. Reminded me of a New Zealand ski town as there were so many antipode and there! Early January is still a bit light for snow.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Yutaka and his team ( friendly Australian men) were so helpful and welcoming. We arrived mid day and got picked up from the station. They sent us down to hire some ski gear only few minutes walk away and then drove us up to the field so we could get a half day of skiing in as the morning shuttles had finished. Breakfast was amazing! So delicious, enough variety that there would be something for everyone. Their are two private onsen that were relaxing first in first served. Some reviews mention the beds are uncomfortable but they were fine and we slept okay. The lodge has wonderful character. Yutaka had good knowledge of what slopes looked good for the day and was always checking in to see that everything was going okay. They provided a ride to the station when we left. Thank you for your wonderful accommodation!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Owner is very chatty and friendly. Offered us a ride from and to the bus terminal. Apartment comes with their own private bath house for 2 pax. Breakfast spread is aplenty and delicious.
Cons: A bit pricey. Breakfast timing is a bit late and we can only take the 0900 hrs bus.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Just the perfect stay. Yutaka and his family are the most amazing hosts. The breakfasts were delicious and they made gluten free rice bread every morning for my husband. Yutaka even took us to the train station when we left. The private Onsens were an excellent feature. I would highly recommend Belnina and hope to stay there again.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Service was fabulous- staff were very helpful and informative. Location was amazing, close to restaurants and bus stops to the slopes. Great traditional experience with a Japanese Onsen included.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: We had a great time at Hakuba Ski-Kan with the perfect hosts who helped us with little things like finding good and reasonable restaurants even when we did not book any in advance, driving us around (for those who know Hakuba is not exactly a walking village with everything in one spot), assisting us in buying train tickets where language was a barrier, receiving and sending our ski gear in advance and treating us to local delicacies when we come back from a day of skiing.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Amazing/Unbelievable service provided by staff, it felt like they would do anything for you. I was personally driven around town and helped to book transport, then lent money because the Happo1 ATM was out of service. Ski-Kan has a nice Onsen to sooth the muscles after a hard day on the snow, and the rooms neat and tidy. Great memories of the Samurai dress up, very unique and fun. Great location only a few minutes walk to the bus stops for transport to skiing destinations, and only a few hundred metres from Lion cafe and Lawsons for snacks and supplies. Ski/snowboard hire directly across the road if required and got a substantial discount as we were staying at Ski-Kan, shop was very convenient with good selection of equipment. I would love to come back to Hakuba Ski-Kan someday.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything else. Staff amazingly helpful.
Cons: Limited space in toilet cubicles
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Fantastic hospitality. Felt very welcome and assisted throughout my stay by the hosts
Cons: Was a quiet venue. Felt like only one staying there
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Words cannot describe the kindness and attentiveness we received from this hotel. The owner and all the staff jumped at literally any opportunity to help and assist us with our stay. Even when we checked out the owner got up at 6am - yes! 6am! To let us out and wish us a safe/pleasant trip along with snacks for our drive. The location was perfect, I would recommend this hotel to anyone. It is worth every penny!

10.0 Excellent
Pros: The Manager and his family lives in the hostel. There was very good interaction between them and the guest - even at the family's mealtimes. Very good exposure for their children and the guests. You get to experience Japanese culture.
Cons: I went skiing - K's House is at the other end of the ski resorts - so transport wise is a bit challenging.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: It's the best hostel I've ever stayed at. The owners and staff make it feel like a home. The shared dining and kitchen spaces invites everyone to talk and enjoy eachother company. I highly recommend.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff were lovely and the accomodation was exactly as we had expected it would be. As comfortable and convenient as our tight budget could afford. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone planning on traveling on a budget.
Cons: The share facilities were share facilities. Hardly something that you could complain about. It was exactly very clean considering those facilities were being used by all the guests. This sentence is just because you told me to keep writing.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Run by the loveliest family ever! (Toshi & Meg). So nice, friendly and helpful, gave us lifts to the train & supermarket, booked restaurants etc. Felt like a home away from home. Clean & well cared for. Big common room with games. Well stocked kitchen. We had the 6 bed family room with our own bathroom which was great. I wish I’d known they can organise discounted ski hire, lift tickets etc - I wouldn’t have booked before arrival.
Cons: Nothing. Note: location is not right on the slope (not many places are) but there’s a quick, free shuttle bus ride to Goryu.
7.5 Good
Pros: Staff are friendly and helpful. Classic hostel where everyone seems to know everyone. Close to some yummy eats. Petty good overall.
Cons: Not the best dry room facilities. Only one heater in the corridor for jackets and pants. Ski equipment room doesn't really dry boots the best. Bit of a hike to Goryu lifts (uphill) with gear on.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Walkable distance to Hakuba Goryu
Cons: There is no supermarket around. Closest convenience store, 7-Eleven is 15 min walk.

5.8 Okay
Pros: Location is close to shuttle bus and some restaurants
Cons: Not kids friendly (owner seems not happy with any kids playing inside the property at all) Very limited choice of breakfast. No flexibility to store the luggage / ski equipments before check in. Owner will tell you some local knowledge but service is well below other hotels in Hakuba. In fact, this is probably the worst service hotel I’ve ever experienced in Japan
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Greg and Jane are super lovely. Close to one of the bus stops. Comfy bed. Clean room. We stayed in a bigger room with a private bathroom. It was spacious enough for 2 of us.

Pros: Staff very helpful especially with pickup and drops offs at bus, train stations. Room very comfortable, had hotel to ourselves for our four day stay in late March, very close to good restaurant options and walking distance to echoland for more options. close to bus stops for ski areas. Good drying room and lounge areas.
Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Staff were so lovely and helpful, waited up for us for later check in as we had trouble with public transport. The area was so pretty and walking distance to many places to eat and drink. Staff were super helpful in regards to giving us info and helping out the guests to get around. Will definitely be coming back!
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Great location within easy walking distance to free bus service to mountains. Hosts extra helpful (English speaking). We had an en-suite bathroom which was good. Nice lounge area downstairs for everyone to relax in after skiing. Walking distance to local Onsen and supermarket. USB charger in room was handy. Greg dropped us back off at the bus station when we were due to depart. Bus to Nagano was the easiest way to go (just over an hour) and catch trains from there.

8.8 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful surrounding, great onsen, breakfast, complimentary afternoon snacks and wine after skiing, and night time instant noodle
Cons: Because it was so far from town and ski area, more shuttles, a small convenient store, and hotel bar would be appreciated
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Loved everything about it
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is trying to make the guest having a fulfilled experience in every way. All the staff members are nice and helpful. The location is a bit far away from all the dinning places, but the hotel has a free dinner shuttle and is very helpful in booking restaurants for the guests. There are basically free foods and drinks in all the resting places, and the views are impeccable. The onsens are extremely clean and relaxing after a day of snow sports.
Cons: The room can get very dry after the heat is turned on, it makes my skin very itchy and I have to put a wet towel in the room. It would be so much better if there could be a humidifier in the room like some hotels in hokkaido do. The breakfast feels rather limited if you stay for longer. There are no free shuttles to the ski resorts, but I do see some people using the shuttles for arriving/leaving guests maybe to get to hakuba town area for free shuttles, but I am not sure. The location is a bit far but the hotel make the guests quite occupied with the dinner arrangements and onsen. However, you cannot really wondering around and explore the town area, or spontaneously deciding to go somewhere, but I guess that’s the nature of Hakuba.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: The kind staff, the resort and the ambience is really excellent.
Cons: I joined a level 1 lowest beginner skiing class and end up in hospital with a very bad ankle sprain.. that spoilt my whole holiday. Wifi and phone connection can be improved.. phone and wifi connection, either from hotel wifi or my own data roam connection, is weak.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: A short bus trip to the Hukuba ski field and an absolute haven at the end of the day. Extremely well catered while offering daily shuttle to many restaurants close by.

Pros: I absolute loved my stay at grove inn Skala, it was so well located, grove inn Skala has one of the bus stops for the free shuttles for I think two big ski fields, and the other one is 25m walk away which can take you to a different ski field! The breakfast was amazing!! The different combinations of food was so good! They were really accommodating to allergies as well! The family running the inn were the most amazing and welcoming people! They also accommodated for our late check in at 2am! When stayed in a traditional Japanese style room which was perfect. The walk into town takes around 10 minutes, they also have a drying room downstairs where you can store all your equipment! You are also able to buy lift passes for two of the mountains at the reception, and you get a discount! The lines at the ski fields can sometimes be very long!
Cons: Nothing! It was amazing!

Pros: Great family run hotel.Good location for shuttle bus to ski lifts and also an easy walk to Echoland's main street for restaurants and bars.
7.0 Good
Pros: Location is a 10-min walk from Echo Land and there is a shuttle bus stop right outside. Overall service from the hosts were pretty impressive.
Cons: Room was bare compared to other Japanese hotels that I stayed in and there was no heater in Winter. Furniture was a little aged but it wasn't much of a concern. Breakfast was very basic but it filled our stomachs. Waited an hour for pick up from the train station but we understood it was a miscommunication.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Absolutely wonderful service, and cozy winter inn. The family who runs it are charming and most helpful. The food is of a very high standard. The rooms are cozy and beautiful. Lovely setting. Convenient shuttle buses to the ski slopes.
Cons: Bathrooms could be a bit nicer and more modern, but no big problem.

Cons: The spa opening time is not long enough. Hope that free shuttle bus services to travel hotspots could be more frequent.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Spacious rooms, comfortable beds, very helpful staffs, locations not too far away from restaurants and ski rentals, generally good. Staffs are extremely helpful especially the front desk.
Cons: If breakfast menu can have some changes would be wonderful. Generally same menu but if can have some further varieties would be better for skiers who stay more than 5 days.

Pros: Staff was enthusiastic and friendly. They went out of their way to make sure our stay was comfortable and that we had everything we needed. The onsen was clean and relaxing, the breakfasts were delicious and the location was perfect! About a 10-15 minute walk to Happo One's gondola, and about a 5-minute walk to the Happo One Bus Terminal/Information Center where we could access shuttles to other mountains in Hakuba Valley.
Cons: Needing to remember to put in a breakfast order before 6 pm. Not a huge inconvenience, just something I wasn't expecting to need to do each day.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff was so wonderful- friendly and helpful. The onsen was perfect with both indoor and outdoor baths
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The hospitality of the hotel staffs were beyond expectations. I dropped them a last min email to ask if I could be picked up from the terminal and they came. Throughout the days there, the receptionist greeted us every time with enthusiasm and was very welcoming. It made our days. They sent us to the bus terminal on our last day and even gave us small gifts when we left. The level of hospitality is truly one of a kind. Every night, they will fill up the sweets and snacks at a corner of the lobby for the guest. Small little gestures like these made us felt really welcome. The futon beds were extremely comfortable and we slept like babies every night. The room was clean, huge and cosy. The onsen was sooooo good. I love how they have a indoor and outdoor onsen. The bathing facilities we're perfect and even though I had my own private bathroom, I have been bathing at the onsen's facilities. We will be back for sure.
Cons: Nothing in particular.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Onsen, location and staff
Cons: Mattress and pillow

Pros: Very helpful host with good English. Best is the onsen outdoor - we enjoy it everyday! Decent location around 5min to Hakuba church bus stop which has free shuttle bus to goryu /47/ Happo one ski resort. Very cosy breakfast served 8-8:30
Cons: The room is a bit small and toilet is not in this room. Free shuttle is not frequent
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This is such a lovely place to stay! Ryoji has been running this hotel since the 1998 Nagano olympics, and he's found a great formula. He's super friendly and is always willing to help guests with travel advice, arranging things (taxis, when shuttles leave, etc). He and his family went to great lengths to make our stay wonderful. The hotel itself is very comfy, and the meals each morning were different and tasty. The onsen on site is such a wonderful thing to come back to after a day skiing, and we took full advantage of them each day! Dinner was a lovely experience and would definitely recommend at least once. A short 3 minute walk to the Hakuba chapel shuttle stop, and then down the main road in Echolands, this is a great place to stay and would highly recommend it!
Cons: Nothing, but just a note: if you are searching for the property on maps, use the name of the hotel as the street address gives a different location (location on booking map is correct).
10.0 Excellent

Pros: Delicious breakfast with an awesome view of the mountains. On-site onsen was very good after a full day of snowboarding or sight seeing. Drying room for wet snow gear. Great location for access to restaurant and transportation to ski fields. Warm and friendly staff.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Just like a Swiss chalet. Tasteful decor, with a large sitting area with a fire in the European woodstove. Very cozy. Tasty western breakfast included. Spacious rooms. Spotlessly clean. They even have their own hotspring spa - just the thing for relaxation after a day on the slopes. A short walk to the Hakuba base camp, where you can find equipment rentals and free shuttle buses to all the Hakuba ski areas. Free shuttle to the train station. Lots of great food and drink in the area. I really loved this place.
Cons: There was nothing I didn't like about this place.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: We stayed for a week and had a different breakfast every morning - always a bit of something new, but always nice. No buffet, so no silly overeating, good amounts and good quality. We also made daily use of the in-house Onsen which was great to warm and freshen up after a day of skiing. The staff were always extremely friendly and helpful.
Cons: No complaints.

The owner is very helpful and thoughtful when I fall sick during my stay. Room are clean everyday upon we go out for our ski. To the ski resort is less than 8 mins via drive, basically if you drive is very convenient to anywhere of hakuba as the accommodation is consider central of the city.
Cons: That’s nothing more to comment as the owner have been very hospitable as requested.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great property clean, tidy, even has a private onsen! the man running it is awesome and super helpful with helping us hiring gear and with any questions we had. Great value for the cheaper accomodation. He even offered to drop us off at the train station when we were leaving!
Cons: Nothing, it was great
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Nanjo was a wonderful host. He: picked us up and dropped us off at the bus terminal; provided us with a great introduction to his guest house; provided great advice on the options for ski hire and which resorts to visit; and, always asked how our day went. The guesthouse is in a quiet part of Hakuba nestled amongst trees and snow. It was a beautiful sight to see on our arrival. A short 5 min walk down the road there is a bus stop for the free shuttle buses to the different snow resorts. It is an easy 10 min walk into Echoland for restaurants and there is a 7-Eleven 10 mins walk in the other direction with great take-home meal options (Anise Garden has a microwave). There is a lovely outdoor Onsen/spa bath, which every member of our family took advantage of at least once! Overall, a great stay and recommended for families with kids old enough to walk for 10 or 15 mins.
Cons: If I had to say one thing, it was the lack of a communal area to sit and relax. Not a big problem though.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: My wife and I travel a lot. This time we had our two daughters, one husband and two young grandchildren. Not easy. From the moment we arrived we knew we had found the right place. Taka picked us up from the train station, recommended a ski hire shop and helped us get our skis. He helped the kids put on their boots. Each morning he advised us on what field we should ski at. One day was raining so Taka quickly called the bus operator to arrange tickets for us to go and see the snow monkeys. Un-believably great service. The dinner prepared by Taka and Nano is beautiful and well worth the experience Taka and his wife Nano will make your trip truely memorable. I am so grateful.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was great served course by course. The owner and his wife were very friendly and helpful in every aspect to help us get discounted lift tickets (should buy from them instead of the all valley pass if you’re only doing 1-2 ski stations, much cheaper!!) and booking restaurants for dinner. The hotel is 3 min walk from the ski shuttle station, and they gave us a lift to the next hotel nearby at the end of our stay, super nice of them! Location is good with many good restaurants nearby, though reservations are needed for all the good ones. The private onsen (40 min per guest per day) is very nice too, esp after a long ski day!
Cons: Just the price is a bit high but understandable for peak season as it is the new year holidays.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very warm and welcoming to all. They certainly go out of the way to ensure the comfort of guests. Always willing to assist with helping guests select the best shuttle bus for access to the ski fields, or select a restaurant to suit individual needs, as examples. They also have their own on site hot springs for bathing.
Cons: Nothing can be said to detract from the wonderful efforts of Taka and Nano.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Tucker the owner was extremely helpful and took us everywhere we needed to go even though it wasn’t part of the package. Also the onset was a great way to unwind after a days skiing 5 Star
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This small hotel is very cozy. The breakfast is delicious and served whole-heartedly. The private onsen is very well designed and really a comfort zone to relax the body and soul. Helpful and friendly staff.
Cons: Nothing
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Takao was extremely nice, friendly and helpful. Everything we could need, he thought of or was ready to help. Location was great, heart of Echoland. Easy access to shuttles for the slopes. Convenience store right outside at end of the street. Best hotel experience so far.
Cons: Liked everything.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Takao and his wife were wonderful hosts during our stay. They received and stored our ski bag that we had shipped from the airport, and were very friendly to pick us up and drop us off at the local bus station. In addition, both Takao and his wife were very friendly and were willing to help with whatever issues/questions came up. The onsen in the hotel was very relaxing and well maintained. Though we did not avail of the breakfast or dinner at the hotel, it did look quite good! The location of the hotel was also great in the heart of Echoland, within walking distance of the ski shuttle stop (Hakuba Base Camp), multiple restaurants, bars, and the convenience store. I would certainly return here in a heartbeat!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Superb service by Taka sen! We had a great time. Do try their dinner. Perfect!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was perfect. From the moment Taka picked us from the bus station to dropping us off at the train station after our stay was amazing. The rooms are large and spacious and super clean. The bed was big and comfortable. Taka and his lovely wife make fresh bread and condiments for breakfast each morning, and the breakfasts are just perfect every day Taka can offer discount lift passes and the Soyokaze is literally 2 mins from four ski shops and the shuttle bus stop. There’s also plenty of choices for dinner and lunch within walking distance. We will be back to Hakuba and will definitely stay at the Soyokaze.

Pros: Comfortable, clean with decent breakfast. Very good if all you want to do is ski- otherwise it is quite secluded and far away from any kind of town. Very nice onsen, quite good restaurants but very expensive. International snd very friendly staff
Cons: It is costly
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Onsen, atmosphere, breakfast
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The staff were amazing and the room we booked was a twin which had 2 x king single/double beds. The beds and pillows were very firm (!) which was our experience everywhere in Japan. The breakfast was varied and plentiful and the fresh omelette station was a hit. The onsite onsen was also really nice.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Rooms were clean and comfortable. Staffs were attentive and friendly.
Cons: Nothing in particular.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: It was my business trip, then I was late night check in. But Staff was very kind, operation was so quick and simple. I'll select this hotel for next trip.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This is my tenth times here since 2002, to me it looks the same as the old days. Staffs are helpful and very nice.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The location was lovely. We had a view over the onsen gardens. The onsen it self was also delightful. The room was reasonably large and the beds were twin. We had requested a king bed and the staff did bring the twins together as a king but it did not work because the bed was placed in front of the bedside table in the middle. We ended up moving the beds back and were very comfortable with the twin beds. The French restaurant was wonderful and the buffet breakfast each morning offered western breakfast as well as Japanese. We had a lovely stay here.
Cons: The shower was wonderful but the water backed up and the bath became quite slimy. We left the “make up room” sign on our door when we went out in the morning... when we arrived back after lunch our room had not been “made up” and we had to request it to be done via the concierge.... these are small things but do affect your stay. The concierge staff were fabulous!
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast, located on the 1st floor with good natural light, was sumptuous with both japanese and western option. Coffee can be better though. Transportation is super convenient as most buses stop in front of this hotel. Also, you can walk to most places on foot as the location is excellent. The english speaking staff are very helpful and they give good helpful advise.
Cons: The rooms decor can be updated and maybe have a bar for apres ski in the lobby. But overall nothing to complain.
