had to walk a long way to room
Fabulous property, great staff, beautiful pool, nice villa
Over priced boat transfers, limited choice for vegetarians and vegans, guests reserving sun lounges, rubbish in the sea
The island provides great privacy and the view of Mt Kinabalu. After climb the mountain, we truly need a good rest in resort. The staff are friendly and dinner is gorgeous. Highly recommended!
Staffs - Every staff greet when they walk by. The food - The food in Fisherman’s Cove is great. The tiger prawn (Catch of the day) is the best.
The Room - When we arrived the reception, the staff informed the Kinabalu Villa (South China sea view) we reserved three months ago was not available due to hot water issue. They should have informed us earlier before we got there because we came here to see that view. Therefore, they said they have to downgrade us to Canopy villa (no sea view) with the agreement on refunding MYR $200 to us when we check out. Facilities - We rent the hydrobike that was additional charge and we paid full price in cash immediately. While we bike it far away from the shore, the chain of the hydrobike broke suddenly because of rusted chain. We had to drag the whole bike back to the beach by swimming that wasted our time. They need to keep up the maintenance! Trust issues - First, they promised to refund MYR$200 when we check out as mentioned above. They didn’t do that! When we looked at the bill summary, they still charge us the same price pretending we still stayed in the Kinabalu Villa which we didn’t. We had to ask them then they changed it. If we didn’t double check the bill, they would have charged us without letting us know. Seriously? In addition, they still charged us for the hydrobike rental even through we have already paid it in cash. We told them about it, they doubt us and they called the beach rental place to confirm. Then, they took the charge off. Again, they would have charged us already if we didn’t ask. If you go there, make sure to ask them to give you receipts of everything you paid. The under water view - Just don’t Snorkel in the there. There is nothing much to see.
We chose to stay at the resort at the end of our trip around Sabah as a treat - it was by far our most expensive hotel of the whole holiday. Paying those prices you do of course expect very high standards and the room, general facilities and friendliness of staff definitely delivered. It's a beautiful resort and the staff were all incredibly helpful, gorgeous water and setting. Loved the free yoga and meditation too.
Sadly, we did experience a number of issues during our short stay. Most of these were down to poor communication / booking systems at the hotel - this included our yoga booking not existing when we arrived at class (despite booking 2 days earlier at reception), the hotel mis-communicating diver numbers to Borneo Dream Travel for a diving day resulting in over an hours delay to the trip, our paddleboard booking also not existing when we went to pick up our boards (despite booking over 24 hours earlier), duplicate charges on our final bill at checkout which I luckily spotted and got refunded, and finally our luggage ending up at the police station at the airport (!) as the resort put our bags on the wrong ferry - despite me confirming 3 times which boat we would be on. A very stressful end to our trip. At no point were we offered compensation or any gestures of apology for these various issues - this could have been as simple as a free drink, but nothing was forthcoming sadly. Given the high prices of the rooms, food and drink at the resort, we also felt it a real shame that the ferry journeys and water sports equipment came at an additional cost (particularly when one of the paddle boards is missing its fin making it really hard to use!). It would have been nice for these to be free of charge - as they are at many other resorts.
