9.2 Excellent
Pros: Felt like we were the only ones staying there
Cons: That included in the facilities were extra hidden costs rather than just being able to use the facilities available. Worth it but very expensive!
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The dinner with sake pairing is amazing! Breakfast was stunning. The rooms and the views are really beautiful. The lounge offered complementary sparkling wine and local citrus juice.
Cons: Everything in addition to the room was charged extra - swimming pool, transfers, wine pairing. The outdoor pool is unfortunately only seasonal and we could not enjoy it. It would have been nicer if these services came as a courtesy.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Very spacious and well equipped room (ipad, dyson hair dryer, beer and beverage prepared for free, bluetooth speaker and so on) Kind staffs who are willing to help the customer Nice dinner and sake Since there are few people around hotel you can relax and have a peaceful moment.
Cons: Would be great if the price of private pool is a bit cheaper.

9.0 Excellent
Pros: Cozy and relaxed atmosphere. Dorm and bunk beds were above average. Very easy access to center by tram. Dogo onsen is a good location to stay in Matsuyama even if you’re not interested in visiting onsens.
Cons: Guests make their own beds. Locker is very small and won’t fit any size laptop.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Located seconds away from Dogo Onsen station and the historic onsen in a quiet neighborhood. Shimpei, the owner, built the whole place practically with his own hands. He recommended the local specialty dishes right away. Since every city in Japan is famous for a specific dish, this was really important to me. The bed was comfortable and everything I needed was provided including hairdryer and shampoo.
Cons: I know that inconsiderate guests are not the owner's fault, I just wished I could have enjoyed the bed a little longer than until 6 am.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Loved everything about it. Thank you! Mata rainen

10.0 Excellent
Pros: The hostel was, lovely, clean, well located, and charming. The owner was knowledgeable, nice and VERY helpful and considerate! I arrived soaking wet on 12/26 from a bike ride. The host went above and beyond to help me! He offered a boot dryer when he saw my boots. Offered the building's hose when I went to clean my bike with my water bottle, and many other small kindnesses. A wonderful hostel with an incredibly nice host. Thank you so much!

Pros: Beautiful onsen hot spring bath on the ground floor.
Cons: Holiday price was extremely high without any dinner or breakfast: price we paid was higher than the ordinary price with full accommodation, dinner and breakfast altogether! I’ve got a certain skin allergy after taking bath at the wood bath in the room. Terrible experience. Never again...

7.9 Good
Pros: Location is perfect right next to okaido and it’s close to shopping and night life and restaurants. Bathroom is huge and superb nice. Staffs are generally professional.
Cons: Public onsen would be a big plus. I’m not very impressed with breakfast - would probably skip and go to 7-11 next time. Since they’ve a big bathroom, room is petite more good for one person. We have not much space to put our large luggage. Also don’t know why I never got upper floor rooms in shiguku. I’m a lifetime gold with Star Alliance and Marriott and a booking.com Genius - I always get preferential treatment. It kinda bother me they always put me at lowest floor. All in, I’ll probably go to Dormy Inn next time, similarly priced but nice onsen. Def go with bigger room with 23sqm plus. Breakfast is nicer.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The bathroom is big with a bathtub.

Pros: Large room and bed (by Japan standards), exceptionally clean, roof-top bath (sento) with beautiful views of the city, delicious breakfast in top-floor restaurant overlooking city. 10.0 Excellent
Pros: Rooftop onsen + outside; great breakfast; big & comfy bed. Nice view of the city and sunrise.

9.6 Excellent
Pros: The location right next to Okaido, the shopping street, and within walking distance to several museums and the rope way station leading to the Matsuyama Castle, as well as being adjacent to the Iyotetsu tram stop, makes travelling around very easy. The spring water bath at the top floor provides an aerial view of the city. The restaurant, also located on the top floor faces the lovely Matsuyama Castle.
Cons: I miss fried eggs or Onsen eggs at breakfast.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Great location, nearby shopping arcade, tram station and Matsuyama castle. Very easy to travel to Dogo Onsen and Matsuyama JR Station. The room size is bigger than most of the hotel rooms in Japan. The onsen is nice, with indoor and outdoor settings.
Cons: Hotel lobby is at the top of the building, which is not the usual setting of a hotel, making it a bit hard to navigate around - to check in and to go to onsen.

Pros: Rooms are very large: more a suite. Wonderful onsen: wooden stools and bowls, no plastic here. Wonderful indoor and outdoor pools. Very helpful pleasant staff. Footbath in garden is gorgeous. On main tram routes and next to the Dogo Onsen so easy to get around town. Luxurious, sparkling clean and comfortable.
Cons: I do not like having to say the night before when I shall want breakfast (or, come to that, what I shall want): makes me feel part of a tour rather than an independent traveller. A very minor niggle. I think they have a fair number of groups so perhaps set up to cater for them. Friend in Western-style room said it could do with sprucing up a bit and was not as shiny as our Japanese style room.

A very minor niggle. I think they have a fair number of groups so perhaps set up to cater for them. Friend in Western-style room said it could do with sprucing up a bit and was not as shiny as our Japanese style room.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Funaya is in close proximity of Dogo Onsen. It has a nice garden accessible from the hotel and through the exit gate one can go to Dogo Park. The twin room with tatami area was very spacious and a simply furnished balcony.
Cons: It was a little expensive.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: It is a beautiful property with onsen and a garden. The emperor has stayed here on the past. The room was just lovely with a separate living area from the bedroom and a huge bathroom. Lots of amenities. It is very close to Dogo onsen. The staff were so kind and helpful in finding what we needed.
Cons: Can’t think of a thing!
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Super clean and large rooms. Warm & welcoming staff. The onsen was really nice & clean. The garden is an oasis of tranquility. It was nice that we had a balcony and could open the windows. The location was right in Dogo Onsen and it was nice that one could walk around in the Yukata in the town and visit other onsen. The breakfast was really nice.
Cons: It was a bit expensive. One could expect that dinner would be included in the price.
7.5 Good
Pros: Good location
Cons: Proximity of noisy road
7.1 Good
Pros: Rooms are comfortable.
Cons: Dinner is not outstanding and service is average. Overall too expensive for what it is.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Just everything
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast were great. We tried both Japanese and Western breakfast for the 2 days that we stayed and it was delicious. The staff that brought us to our room don't speak English but she use her phone to translate and communicate with us. It was very thoughtful of her.

9.0 Excellent
Pros: This was our luxury stay from budget hostels and capsule hotels and it did not dissapoint. The moment you walk in you feel like you're in a luxourius paradise. The entrance is so pretty and staff were very friendly. They provided us with a abundance of information about using the Dogo Onsen next door (litteraly located right across the small street and it is tattoo friendly) The whole building smelt wonderuful with heaps of fresh flowers all over the place. There is a shopping strip nearby and lovely little restuarants. You had the option to collect a larger Yukata from reception. We utulized the option to have our traditional breakfast and that was an interesting experience. While it wasn't too my taste of a breakfast meal (I'm sorry, it's because I've grown up with bread and cereal) it was really great to try this new experience!!
Cons: We had some trouble finding a point for us to charge our phones. Some power points or USB ports near the bed would be good. I wasn't sure how to wear the Yukatah and I could have used a "How to wear a Yukata for dummies" (or I could not be lazy and google it)
10.0 Excellent

Pros: It’s nice place with a good staff but it need many changes. We liked it because its a place with soul and a great staff.
Cons: No towels, no dishwashing liquid, the shower is not so comfortable.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: The floors were a bit creaky but it’s understandable since it was an old house. The Kotatsu was amazing.. beds were comfortable and warm. Excellent location.. very close to Dōgo Onsen.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Lady in my room was snoring all night...can't be helped when you're staying in a dorm!
Cons: Loved how small and cosy it was, encouraged the few people staying there to sit and eat together. The owner/manager guy was really helpful and helped us find a sports bar to watch the rugby. Great location if you are looking at using the dogo onsen and really easy to get in and around the city as right by the tram station.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Great location for Dogo onsen visits, less to go in Matsuyama. Very nice staff !
Cons: The shower is not the best, but I went to onsen all the days, and you probably will too (as it is very close to Dogo onsen)
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very nice staff and relaxed atmosphere!
6.7 Good
Pros: Very close to Dogo onsen
Cons: Insect come up from the drain pipe in bath room
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Cute little place near Onsen. Great owner Rie and staff Cooki (sp), who also works in a nearby cafe & bar for great coffee and pancake. Near guesthouse you can catch bus to Imabari to visit island. Do not miss to visit nearby town of Uchiko.
Cons: Cute place, maybe bit limited in space.

7.9 Good
Pros: Location
6.3 Good
Pros: Not much
Cons: Poor sitting area and kitchen Insufficient showers for the number of people In the dorm.
7.1 Good
Pros: Staff if very kind and helpful, location is exceptional (close to Dogo onsen and shopping stree). But the facilitiy and room is old with tiny toilet, Japanese style futon (no problem on that part).
7.5 Good
Pros: The location is great, almost right next to Dogo Onsen with plenty of shops and restaurants to walk around and shop. The staff was also friendly.
Cons: The hostel building itself is pretty dated. As such there is no AC in the hallways, which makes for a warm walk to the showers and up to your room. The bunk beds were also a bit uncomfortable as there was just a thin mattress on a wood frame
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The location was very good. It was very easy to find! The rooms were very clean and spacious. The locker was huge to store your belongings in and each locker had a charging plug!
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Plenty of showers, the beds were comfortable, and they gave one complimentary pack of detergent for the washing machines. I also like that they had dryers. They also had big lockers for you to put your luggage in.
Cons: There was only one outlet and it was located in your locker. A bit inconvenient to charge if you have many things like a phone, a battery pack and a camera. Hard to use your phone and charge at the same time. The rooms are made of traditional wood though so might be hard to put outlets in in other places. I brought my backpack so it was fine but there's no elevator. So if your handicapped or have big luggage it might be difficult.
5.8 Okay
Pros: Great location
Cons: Very small rooms, only a few showers for the entire hostel, not that clean, but run down.
