Pros: We loved our stay here! Paula is a great host-very welcoming, friendly and extremely helpful. The rooms are lovely and comfortable (they have air con which was great!) and we felt very much at home. The location is a short walk from the beach area which means it’s quiet at night.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I stayed at Paula's place for a week because i didnt want to leave: the lovely host gave me a warm wellcome that made me feel like Im staying with good friends I know for years. The house is just lovely and the rooms are the nicest i could find in taganga (and I've tried few places). The patio is so relaxing and breakfest at the house balcony is a super nice way to open your day. I also enjoyed the fact that Paula's husbend runs a diving shop - they orgenized everything for me and I just had to show up!(must say also that the dive shop is great! With great staff and equipment) Bottom line- excellent value for money!!!
Cons: I always read the negatives too, but this time just skip to the positive ;)

Pros: I have been there a few days before Christmas. The town was quite full. Colombian party quite loud. The hotel is a little bit outside of the party area (just a few minutes), which I really liked as I could sleep well. Miguel and Wilmar were very nice and helpful. They speak English and Spanish.

Pros: I didn't have the breakfast, but all of the food and drinks I had were amazing. Chef didn't mind altering some dishes as I am vegan and wanted a curry! Hostel itself has a beautiful outdoor area, with pool and beautiful trees. Hammocks and chill out areas were super. All staff and volunteers were friendly, helpful and couldn't do enough for you. Pool area and rooms were cleaned daily.
Cons: Wifi would cut out sometimes (not for more than 5 minutes) but I believe this to be a Taganga wide problem and not the hostel itself. Was never a problem for long.

7.9 Good
Pros: Nice terrace and really friendly stuff
Cons: Breakfast was not good in comparison to other hotels in Colombia. Hardly no furniture for the luggage in the room
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Everything! The staff are really friendly and helpful. The double room we booked was a great size (big enough for us to unload our backpacks). Showers are good with warm water (not that easy to find in Colombia). It’s in a great location to pop out and grab food or drinks from a bar or a number of convenience stores. We ended up moving from another cheaper hotel that was terrible and staying here for 3 nights. It was well worth the extra money to stay here. The outdoor hammocks are super comfy too.
Cons: The first night we had some ants in our room but the staff we really helpful and super accommodating in moving us to a room higher up on first floor. This was perfect for us and had no ants!
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Staff was Great, Great service calling me a cab, breakfast, any request I had, nice hamaques on the 3 floor, nice balcony over looking the street witch is very dusty everywhere in taganga. Location is Great 2 blocks from the beach, Great WiFi.
Cons: Stayed in the room next to the front desk was noise asked to move and so I was moved 2 door's down and was much much quiter and the room was much nicer.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Perfect location, fresh, safe with a nice inner garden, great staff, comfortable, great breakfast.
Cons: Nothing to complain about.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Staff was very friendly. Rooms are very clean. Once breakfast. Need a pool and to open the bar outside and it would be perfect.
Cons: Nothing.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff! The nicest in Colombia Great breakfast Amazing value for money
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Everything was clean and rooms were cleaned daily on request. The staff were really nice. The location is great just off the main road beachfront but only 1 minute from all the activity by the beach. Its very good value for money.
Cons: The rooms are quite small and basic. Same for the showers. No warm water but this is the same everywhere in Taganga and not necessary. Breakfast was also very simple. Noisy at times as next to a bar.

Pros: Nice pool, clean rooms
Cons: Rude staff apart from the owner, really really loud music until 12 and then first thing in the morning

Pros: A chill place just outside Santa Marta. Fun to be outside the city and within walking distance from the beach. There's also great food and great staff. Very patient and kind. Special thanks to Maria Theresa!
9.0 Excellent
Pros: The hostel has restaurant service 24hrs! this was the best
Cons: It is like 4 or 5 blocks away from the diving centers and the beach.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Tasty and reasonably priced food. Nice and well proportioned pool. Loved the rooftop hangout area. Plenty of places to hangout overall. Friendly and helpful staff. AC in the room made sleeping pleasant. Get the Oreo milkshake, it's out of this world.
Cons: Wi-Fi can be hit or miss. Having potable water other than water bottles on site would be nice. Lockers were extremely small, but could fit everything except my laptop which they kindly kept safe at the reception desk.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The people working here are extremely friendly and helpful. Really make you feel at home. Best place to stay in Santa Marta or Taganga. They offer a lot of great excursions that are perfectly well planned, in-house 24/7 restaurant, pool, great viewing point, really all you need and more.
Cons: Nothing is bad here. Really great place to stay.
7.1 Good
Pros: Good location, friendly staff.
Cons: It is absolutely a party hostel for young backpackers. Felt like it was overpriced to sleep in a group bunk bed dorm at $35 per person. Music goes all night long, and loudly until 2am.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The pool was always clean, the balcony have good vibes, the stuff was kind and they have a really good food
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The pool was nice and what was best was that the restaurant is open 24/7 and many great options on the menu. The entire staff was really helpful and very friendly. For the price everything over exceeded all of my expectations. Stayed in both a shared dorm room and a private accommodation. Only 2 or 3 short blocks walk the beach.

Pros: Staff super friendly and very nice swimming pool
Cons: Nothing

8.3 Excellent
Pros: Hospitality of the owners, being able to stay and use the facilities after check-out, amazing view, very calm and many hamacs to chill, great food.
Cons: Beds are not very comfortable. As other comment mentionned, don't go if you're not in a good shape or if you have a luggage (which is not a backpack). Not ideal if you plan to party as well.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The location is amazing out of town up on a hill overlooking the sea. But still only 10 mins walk to town. It’s quiet and peaceful. The family are really kind and give the hostel a great atmosphere. The kitchen is well equipped has everything you need. The rooms are great simple nothing fancy but all we needed. They have two nice dogs and a cat. There is an awesome terrace with ping pong and games / places to eat. And hammocks. The pool area is great for a dip after the walk up the hill (which is a little rocky. Not good for a car). Thank you for everything !
Cons: Loved all
5.8 Okay
Pros: We loved the actual location of the hostal, great views, but the climb to get there was horrendous. Swimming pool is great, large enough.
Cons: The lady running the place is moody and does clearly not enjoy her job at all. She is moody and everything you ask her seems to much trouble. She shouts your name and then you have to come running to get your food. If you don’t hurry she gets very irritated. Her daughter (?) is no better. The lady who helps at breakfast time and cleans is very nice. When we arrived after the horrible climb with 2 kids the lady demanded our passports. A more friendly welcome would be better, let us at least catch our breath! Our room was not cleaned during our 3 day stay. The toilet paper bin not even emptied, disgusting. The swimming pool does not have a (working) shower, and they demanded we take a shower in our room prior to swimming, not very nice to have to walk wet in your room, and a bit weird. The climb is truly gruelling. No path, just a dirt rocky steep path and quite dirty too. We walked it once a day with kids, doable, but take your time!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This is such a beautiful casa, close to the plaza and with a beautiful garden and chill out space. The staff are all very attentive, friendly and helpful. My Spanish isn't great but we understood each other enough. Bruno the dog is adorable! It's quiet at night and very good value for money. Plus they do good coffee!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything about the hostel was perfect. The food, the view, the room (value for money) beautiful hosts that make you feel very at home. One of my favourite stops in Colombia for sure! Anyone who's visiting Taganga must stop off here. 10/10
Cons: The hostel is located on top of a big steep hill... So make sure you have some water. Thee view is exceptional though. Well worth the walk up!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The view, the staff, the dog Rocco and the breakfast - everything was amazing. Such a lovely place! The AC room is incredible and worth every cent.
Cons: One night we spent in the non-AC room and it was unbearingly hot - so we slept in the hammocks outside, which was perfectly fine too...
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Due to its' remote location it is really quiet and the view over Tanganga Bay is amazing and still the beach and restaurants are only 10 minutes walking away. Our hosts, the dog Rocco and the rooms were really nice and we enjoyed our stay.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The hostel itself is very beautiful and relaxed. Amazing view. Staff is very kind. Great spot to do some diving activities; about 10 min walk to the beach.
Cons: The way up to the hostel is kinda harsh, very steep. With suitcases difficult.
7.1 Good
Pros: The two women who ran this place are very nice and accommodating. The view is spectacular and worth every cent. The food they make is delicious and the pool is a refreshing end to the long climb uphill.
Cons: The beds were very firm and hard to sleep on. Also, this hostel is located up a VERY steep hill that takes 10 minutes to climb in the hot humidity. Do not stay here if you are not physically fit or don't want to climb a big hill to and from your hostel.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The AC room was incredible, the whole house is super clean and we loved Rocco the dog! also the pool area is beautiful to relax!
Cons: nothing

7.5 Good
Pros: Nice breeze at night. Rooms were large.
Cons: Distance to the downtown area was walkable however lighting was not good at night
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The excellent views and the swimming pool.
Cons: Everything was perfect
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great spot for a relaxing family weekend. Elisabeth and Arturo were fantastic hosts. Provided great recommendations for meals and things to do. The hotel was good for us, staying with our 4 month old, they provided a crib for him and the room was large with a nice outdoor seating area and a view. Breakfast was solid and staff was very friendly! Arturo also was very helpful, being our private taxi to town and back.
Cons: The hotel was a little too far from town to walk with the baby, given the heat (~15 min walk for active adults). Although it was also nice to be away from the noise of the Taganga, especially over a weekend. Just a couple of minutes by car and Arturo was more than accommodating to take us!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Loved it here! Was our home for 3 days. Beautiful views and a spacious room and shared terrace. Nice tiled bathroom with shower, and everything was sparkling clean. Lovely owners, with the wife speaking excellent English. Fantastic breakfast, even accommodating my gluten-free vegan request...not an easy ask! Friendly, committed staff and nice guests.
Cons: The cooking facilities were a challenge due to a weak stovetop, but we managed to still cook almost every meal for ourselves. The blender was very weak, so we couldn't use it for our ice drinks. The walk to town is 10-15 minutes but we wanted something out of the way and quiet and we got it!!
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Arturo was terrific. He lead us on an early morning hike up into the hillside explaining history, birdlife, etc. He is very aware of the need for environmental conservation and actively promotes it with guests as well as with the locals. We couldn’t have had a better host. Aida prepared wonderful breakfasts and always made sure the fresh coffee was to our liking. The fresh fruit & juices were delicious. Always pleasant, kind and considerate.
Cons: The safe in the room was non-functional but because the security was very good, this was not an issue. This is a somewhat rural location which we loved, but might not appeal to those who want nightlife.
Hostel Villa Mary - Taganga - Bedroom

8.7 Excellent (140 reviews)
S$ 35+
Overview Reviews
With a stay at Hostel Villa Mary in Santa Marta, you'll be near the beach, within a 15-minute drive of Santa Marta Beach and Taganga Beach. Featured amenities include dry cleaning/laundry services, a 24-hour front desk, and luggage storage. A roundtrip airport shuttle is available for a surcharge.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The hostel building looks pretty good outside and inside. There is a big, common kitchen, and kind of living room/ playing room with hammocks that are perfect to relax in. I like a lot that in the hostel the trash is split into recyclable and non-recyclable. The hostel is situated 10 min on foot to the Taganga beautiful beach. The staff is very friendly. You can ask them how to get to an ATM or some trustful restaurant. The room had basic equipment - bed and closet and was clean. In some rooms, there is also an air conditioner. There are restrictions when you can use A/C (only in the evenings) but from this what I noticed, in this part of the country, it is very common.
Cons: There were no toiletries in the bathroom but were mentioned in the offer. The electricity was down twice during one night (in the whole Taganga because the supplier has some problem with lines) so there was a small problem with charging phones.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: My husband and I stayed at this place three years ago and totally loved it so we decided to come back. The administration has changed but the new managers are very nice and accommodating as well as the former ones. We loved the sense of community in this place and the welcoming atmosphere. Breakfast was also good. We will definitely stay again if in Taganga.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great location, the place is clean and confortable. The rooms are spacious and the breakfast amazing, would definitely recommend!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: A lovely place We enjoyed our stay very much. The feeling in the hostel is like home, mary and the staff take care of everything you need and of course the breakfast is excellent and rich. We were in the number of hostels on the trip and Villa mary is one of the special hostels that we will remember even after the trip.
7.0 Good
Pros: Villa Mary is a friendly laidback hostel with a nice communal area. The hostel has had new young Brazilian managers since mid December 2019 - they are friendly, welcoming and helpful. The previous manager/owner has let the hostel run down a bit - many of the lockers in the dorm are broken (they use key locks not padlock hasps), no shower heads. The free breakfast is fruit, eggs, toast, juice and coffee. Shower water pressure is ok Aircon in the dorms is good, as are the curtains at night the room is pitch black. My dorm (room 1) had two en-suite showers and toilets between 10 beds. Not sure about the other rooms. Diving courses are very cheap in Taganga
Cons: The bunks are quite short and some a bit close together, no privacy curtains Towel rental is 4,000peso Taganga beach is not a particularly beautiful one.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: It's a calm place, near to the beach. Has kitchen if you want to cook something.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Chill atmosphere, good breakfast, and friendly, helpful staff!
Cons: Nothing to complain about :)
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Charming place and a very nice and taff! Helpful with good tips and very friendly. The place is calm and good located!
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Great staff! They were so nice to us Took care of us

A warm, friendly, and helpful welcome he provides! I would book there again if I went back, a nice and cozy accommodation!
5.4 Okay
Pros: Close location to tayrona national park. Friendly and helpful staff, you feel like at home.

Cons: The stairs
9.2 Excellent
Pros: We love the view of the beach, also, it is a good place to have access to many places: tayrona, beaches close to the hotel. The hotel has a good bed, the room is a bit small, we doesn’t stay to much time in the room in Taganga.
Cons: This hotel the water of the shower is always cold. Please, we expect to have hot and cold water in the toilet. Also, add more food to the breakfast.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is in a beautiful setting with a lovely view and the village of Taganga is still unspoilt. However the road through the town to the hotel at the moment is quite bad because one can't pass through the waterfront. The restaurant is good. Just 15/20 min walk past the hotel is the famous Playa Grande. On WE it's quite full with Colombian turists and a little less with foreign tourists. In Taganga there are 2 ATM machines for withdrawing money (near the police station). The hotel offers to arrange excursions to Tyrona etc with more convenient pricing than local agencies.
Cons: The road through the town to the hotel is quite bad (potholes).
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Amazing views and super friendly staff! We got the room with balcony & sea view, well worth it! The staff is really helpful, help you with bags and other reservations. If staying in Taganga, this is the best place! Clean, view, comfortable etc.
Cons: Taganga is a party town so during the night you can hear music playing (all hotels will experience this). When we were there it was quite windy, so the white chairs on the roof where moving which woke us up sometimes.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: TLDR- Superb service, Accommodating, Clean, Good Value; Safe. The house and the views from the rooftop balcony lounge are stunning. Maria was very accommodating from the moment we arrived and set up all the plans for our outing. We just knew we wanted to check out Parque Tayrona. She arranged us discounted rates even though we were gouged everywhere else we visited and told us where to go to for a good swim. She even took us to one of her favorite restaurants the first night we arrived to give us a good sense of the area. Her dogs were very friendly but relaxed; and the food and drinks were pretty good too. I can't show enough gratitude to Maria. She is part of a neighborhood security service that made sure we were safe when we stayed out late in the town. If you're checking out Santa Marta, this is the place to stay on a budget!
Cons: The visit turned out to be wayy too short =(
7.9 Good
Pros: The owner is lovely and goes the extra mile to look after her guests.
Cons: It is a short walk through a more residential area so feels a little further away from the action (but Taganga is very small so not much of an issue)
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Maria, the proprietor, is extremely friendly and accommodating. She is a wealth of local knowledge and gives very good advice on local sightseeing trips. She will do her best to help you arrange transportation etc. and help to get you a good price. The hostel is about 10 minutes walk up hill. It is on the edge of the village which makes it quieter than staying in the center - but at the end of a long day it does feel like a long walk.
Cons: The hostel is about 10 minutes walk up hill. Not a big deal but if you have heavy bags or are infirm/ elderly it might be a factor.
7.5 Good
Pros: Woman running this place is great, friendly "mamma" :-) Terrace with a view.
Cons: Cold water only... but this is true for most of Taganga. Location: it's uphill, relatively far from everything.

3.8 Mediocre
Cons: They charge extra 7$ per night for AC. The bed was uncomfy and we had hairs on the bed. It's really loud at night. You can hear all the noise and music from the beach. Also they charged 30.000 soles for a little bag of laundry!! The stuff is grumpy. And the breakfast is awful. Dry toast and old looking cheese and ham.
4.0 Okay
Pros: Bad
Cons: breakfast
7.1 Good
Pros: Breakfast made fresh - was good. Friendly staff, nice views of the bay. Clean room.
Cons: Dorms weren't even available for rent - and the place was empty. Very windy while I was in town, and the windows were rattling and shaking all night. Bit of an awkward walk back along the beach/rocks at high tide.

Cons: Breakfast and coffee

6.7 Good
Pros: The girl at the reception was very nice Good location
Cons: Bed linens were dirty when we arrived, full of dust because of an open window I guess. The girl nicely changed it. The shower was plugged, the water was leaving very slowly leaving all the dirt on the floor. Air conditioning was not working very well
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast. Staff were nice. Pool. Free water.
Cons: The power went down one night so it was a little hot but that’s to be expected sometimes in Sth America.
4.6 Okay
Pros: I liked the fact it included breakfast (simple one though)
Cons: The room is not exactly like the pictures. Plus, the room wasn’t the cleanest, there were women hairs on the bed. Gross.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Oscar was very friendly and helpful. He arranged a tour and gave further tips. Food was delicious and breakfast changed every day. The room was clean and cosy with fan and ac. We had a great stay and funny evenings sitting together.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Oscar was absolutely lovely! From check-in to check-out he was always around to answer questions about the hotel and tours, serve breakfast, water, etc (even when we came in/out at ridiculous times for him to unlock the gate - thank you!!). The room was nice with a huge bed, shower outside if you need a rinse before coming in, and of course the air con was lovely. We were warned a few times by locals that the area wasn’t the safest, but we didn’t have any issues during the week. It’s a small town and essentially a 5-minute walk to anywhere so we were happy staying a little ways from the main beach/restaurants.
Cons: Nothing to mention
9.0 Excellent
Pros: A great place, and Oscar was a great host. Always ready to help, great advice on food, what to visit and his English is really good. Thanks a lot for the good times!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Awesome value for money and friendly local family runs the hostel
