  • One of the major advantages of renting a car in New York City is that it makes the outlying boroughs much more accessible. For instance, places like Rockaway Beach in Queens, Red Hook in Brooklyn, and City Island in the Bronx are all much easier to reach via car than by public transportation.
  • For travelers with flights landing at LaGuardia Airport, all hire shuttles pick up and drop off from in front of Terminal A of the airport. As for JFK International Airport, hire car desks can be found on the Arrivals level of each terminal. At Newark International Airport, the car hire desks are found in Stations P2 and P3 on the AirTrain.
  • Rush hour is an undeniable part of life in New York City. However, that doesn’t mean it can’t be mitigated. If you rent a car at JFK or La Guardia from Avis make sure to check that they're is a FULL TANK of GAS in the car & make sure to check that there is no damage to the car you're renting. I've rented a few cars from Avis in Poughkeepsie, NY and the service there is friendly & good. Never a problem. Only in the large cities of NY you'll usually have some type of problem.

After arriving at the facility with a Lyft for our pre booked rental we then had the hassle that due to fact they have now only have chip pin payment and my chip was not working on my credit card and company policy is they won’t accept debit card, nor would they let anyone in the party pay the “refundable deposit” they just say there with blank looks on their faces saying there was nothing they could do, we were about to drive from NY to Florida, so luckily for us Budget was only a few blocks away and they as always went out of their way to help us get on our 10 day road trip ! Nice to see good old American Customer Service is still alive at Budget as Alamo sucks with theirs!!

I had a change of plans and returned the vehicle to the pickup site. The onsite staff were unable to remove the one way fee. The corporate office bounced me around, sens the info to the wrong local office and the issue is still not resolved.

We were charged a different price than quoted (though the estimate hasn't been confirmed yet). We also were told we were required to pay for EzPass through the rental car and that there were high fees charged for it, but this seems incorrect, as Toll By Mail seems available on all roads via an easy online form.

The lady behind the desk at the pick up location was VERY rude and she intentionally didn’t want to help me with my reservation. When I finally got the car (after so much delay and struggle) the inside was filthy! The inside of the car had not been cleaned.

Wait time was extremely long, the car was not clean when we picked it up. Also the gas tank was not full when they gave me the car. so it caused a whole lot of confusion when dropping of the car

Staffs were friendly; however, the lines at the pick-up location were very confusing. I wasn't sure which line was for people who had reservation. I figured it out in the end by asking people who were in lines. So, better signs for directing the customers to the right place would be a plus. Again, all the staffs were very friendly and helpful, and I really appreciate it (I was with 3 kids waiting for the car at around 1 am). Drop off was easy. Again, staff were very helpful. I would recommend Avis.
