Nice Car, Poor check In experience
Pros: The car (the 2nd one we got) was clean and great to drive. The people at the HERTZ counter were very friendly and helpful.
Cons: 15 minutes after driving away with the 1st car from our downtown pickup, it developed a weird sound and feel on the right front wheel. We were on a bridge over the St. Lawrence River leaving Montreal so couldn't pull over. When we got off the bridge and pulled into a parking lot we discovered a bit of the undercarriage had come loose and was rubbing against the wheel. We called the 800 number and they offered to come out in 4-6 hours and tow us back to the airport which was 1+ hours further west from where we picked up the car. Finally convinced the phone support to find us another car at the downtown site we had just left. He did, but then when we gave him the address where the car was he said there was no such address. We were in the parking lot of a hotel and funeral home and had the address and cross street right in front of us. We told him we were not going to wait 4-6 hours for a tow and would catch a taxi back and pick up our replacement car. He told us to leave the keys under the seat of the car and leave it unlocked for the tow truck. I looked up our location on Google maps and finally when he had the postal code he said he found our address. We picked up our replacement car and left on our way. A week later when I turned my car back in, they couldn't / wouldn't close out my bill cuz they said it didn't show in their computer system what had happened to the car we had left in the parking lot. I have a 'preliminary' bill but I'm worried HERTZ will try and stick me with extra charges for their 1st car that failed.

Car was fine but client service could have been better.
Pros: Car was clean and comfortable.
Cons: For my departure my car was 40min late past my booking time.
For my return the parking was full when I brought it back so I wasn't sure where to leave the car. And I was confused by the message in the key drop box since I did not know in advance I had to write the millage and hour of return, I did not carry a pen with me so I couldnt write it down. Employees at Hertz should explain more carefully what should be done when the car is returned.
I only used less than half the tank so I wished I wouldn't have prepaid the gas.

Cons: The woman who rented this car to me gave me no details whatsoever. I clearly marked I would be returning at 7pm on a Sunday and when I got there the location was closed. I had not been notified that it would be closed or how to return the car when I picked it up, I had only been told I could pay when I got back with my debit card but they would put my credit card on file. Upon calling hertz Canada, I was told my only options were to drop off at a location two hours out of my way or keep the car with me for the night and pay extra fees for keeping it. I live downtown and don't even have parking. I finally got the lady on the phone to tell me I could do a late dropoff. I asked the lady to put a note on my file as I wanted to pay debit and had been told that upon return of my car I could pay debit despite my credit card being on file, but she said it was impossible to make a note as that was not her department and customer service and billing were both closed on sundays. Finally, I did the late return after half an hour of trying to figure this out. I then woke up at 6:30am, having had only four hours of sleep, to call the location when they opened. The man on the phone put my contract aside and said he would wait for me to come in so I could pay debit. I went to the location to pay today and a girl at the desk helped me. She informed me that hertz does not accept debit payments (i had been told otherwise twice now), and that I got over charged when I rented the car. Luckily this girl helped me but it is rediculous that I would go through this and spend so much of my time dealing with this. This company needs to train their employees on knowing their store hours, instructing customers on late returns, handling calls when customer service is closed, and what payment methods they accept. This was outrageous for the amount I paid.

Pros: easy drop off.
Cons: The car made a constant loud squeaking sound the entire time on the drivers side. It was SO annoying. (I drove the car for at least 7 hrs.) The car did not smell good, either. It was a really crappy car. Disappointed.

Pros: convenient location; good price; easy pick up and drop off (although when I dropped off the car, the lot was so crowded, the agent told me to leave the car in the street (legally parked, but not in their lot).
Cons: A rental agency in Montreal should be able to provide prices in Canadian dollars and charge cards accordingly. I was not charged a foreign exchange fee but the charge was made in US dollars which is just weird and confusing. If I had reserved from the US, that would be one thing - but I reserved the car in Canada, with an Canadian credit card, a Canadian IP address (etc).

Pros: 1. I liked that they drove us to the airport at the end of trip. It was a very nice gesture.

Cons: 1. The location is not exactly in the city where tourists visit and it's about 10 km from the airport. It was a bit inconvenient to pick up the car.
2. The rental office told us to bring the car back with the gas tank EMPTY. It is pretty stressful to attempt to bring the car back with tank empty. The norm, in my experience, is to receive the car with tank full and return the car with the tank full.

Big car little price
Pros: I liked how quickly they responded to all my questions and concerns. They offered us a free upgrade. No hassle rental unlike some other companies.
Cons: The car was not that clean. We found several alcohol wipes under the drivers seat. The clearly did not work and the air conditioning leaked in the car. We advised them upon returning the car and they offered a discount on the original price for the rental.

Cons: Didn't have the car we wanted or anything close even though the booking was made two days prior. Was offered a pickup truck and a van instead. I took the pickup truck initially but when it was brought around it smelt strongly of marijuana. We eventually took a dodge caravan. Halfway to our destination we noticed the smell of vomit inside the car. On closer inspection there was what looked like a patch of vomit in between the rear seats. There was also soda sprayed all over the side panels and various candy leftovers and snacks left in the seat storage-wells. To the staff's credit our flight was delayed and we did not arrive until 5 mins after their usual closing time and we were still helped. But the above issues could have been avoided if they were more organized. We'll use another company next time.

Pros: They use Honda Civic sedans for their rentals.
Cons: It took 30 minutes for the shuttle to pick us up from the terminal upon arrival. Then another 20 minutes to get the car once at the rental office. They only had one guy serving the desk and he was also the guy that would run to get the cars out of the yard where they were parked. He was not courteous or friendly at all. The car was dirty and had scratches all over it.
The office was filthy, our car's low washer fluid light came on after 1 use, the tires were all 10lbs under pressure so we had to fill them at a gas station which cost us $3. Not a large sum of money but why should I have to pay for air?
If a rental company does nothing else they should at least check the oil, check the tires, check the gas, and wash the car after every use. It was obvious the was never done.
The price online said $151 but when we returned the car it cost us $265. I asked why the difference and he just grumbled because that's the cost. I will not be using Kayak or Economy Car Rentals in the future.

The drop off location was at a different location than the pickup location and the directions/address given to get there was wrong. Pros: Absolutely nothing to like.
Cons: This was disgraceful. I have rented cars and traveled my entire life, and have never wanted to write a negative review about anything before. But this company just begged for it. I reserved a car online in advance and read the fine print. Nowhere did it mention anything about car insurance and like any other company, one would figure that they'd ask if I'd like to take their insurance or not. Instead, as I'm standing in front of them after flying in from NY, they ask me for proof of car insurance to show that I had full collision coverage. Since I, like everyone else I know, keep my insurance in my car or at home, the gentleman tried to force me to take their insurance for $500...and pointed to a sign in the dingy office stating that...yet it was never posted anywhere else in advance. When I declined to rent from him, he told me he was charging me for the first day even though my reservation stated that I wouldn't be charged until I accepted the car. I wound up renting at the airport for the same price with a major company...and it took me 5 minutes to do so. Needless to say, I have spoken with my credit card company who will be fighting this charge for me. I would advise anyone to use a familiar company at the airport even if it is slightly more. You get what you pay for.

Cons: Had my pickup at 8 am- called several times for my pickup between 7:45 - 8:20 am - no answer! Had to call corporate to get a hold of them. Waited for over 25 min for a pickup which never came. The gentleman from Discount next door politely offered me a ride (apparently this happens a lot with Economy) when arrived at the discount store, I had to walk over to the actual Economy store with my luggage. My car smelled funny and was dirty! When asked why the car was dirty - was told it's because it's the morning and they didn't have time to clean. Nonetheless, when I dropped off my car- I showed up 2.5 hours prior to my flight- the store was about to close (which is ridiculous !!) another couple had just picked up their car and we're coming back in to change company- their car was disgusting too... They walked over to discount! spend the extra couple of dollars- not worth the frustration...

This place is a dump
Cons: Super creepy rental office offsite from the airport. Don't be fooled by the kayak quote, with all the add ons you'll end up paying double. Guy releasing the car was so rude we almost walked out. Super sketchy business all around. Will never use this company again.
Pros: When we eventually got our car( not the car) we reserved we were ok...
Cons: Staff unfriendly-did not respect the rental contract. I would suggest not to rent from Avis this particular centre. Could not extend and they cut the contract short and also threatened to cancel the reservation.

I dropped the key off I thought I was paying the inflated price I had been quoted when I picked it up, $305 instead of just over $60. Later that day I received the final bill it was more than $500. Rental was actually Discount but still ACE as I understand it...
Pros: The staff was generally kind and helpful to interact with when needed. Cars were comfortable to ride in.
Cons: Did not have my promised car (economy) or similar (compact). Was offered a minivan, which is insane as I'm by myself in a foreign country and don't need something large to increase accident likelihood. Was okay with BMW X1 as it's a very small SUV, until the warning light came on 45min into rental saying IT'S 500KM OVERDUE FOR BRAKE PAD REPLACEMENT. Had to return it, held car for half day of rental and then given Jeep (only option given); ride was fine but uses more gas than I wanted, still too big a car for one person. Upon dropoff, was clear they had only one shuttle despite two full shuttles of people waiting to get to airport. Had to take a cab out of concern of missing flight. Also worth mentioning that during my three trips to the rental location, saw zero compact cars on lot; saw almost entirely Jeeps. Would recommend a metric added to KAYAK displaying chances of being FORCED to take an "upgrade", as some people don't want these larger cars that clearly make up the bulk of their fleet. Not certain this car rental company's location relies too heavily on the concept of repeat business.
Pros: We rented a Chrysler town and country minivan and the car was clean and comfortable inside. Had navigation and plenty of seating and storage for 6 passengers and baggage.
Cons: We were told the car was being washed and prepared for us as we filled out rental paperwork for 30 minutes! Then when we walked down to the 5 level below ground to pick up the car we had to wait another 20 minutes as they cleaned out another car being returned and then cleaned our van. After driving the van out of the garage and picking up our passengers, the driver side sliding door didn't work. There was a problem with the locking mechanism - so once we got it locked we didn't use it the rest of our trip. Then there was this high pitched hissing sound coming from something near the dash on the drivers side of the car! We couldn't determine the cause and it continued all 4 days we had the car. We called the rental company once we reached our destination and they had no suggestion or offered no rebate for these issues. At least they didn't charge us for them!

Cons: Quote online was $475; when I arrived there was additional fees which went over $750. Fees for: $88 prepaid gas, daily fee if you were in Ontario or US; and $37 a day insurance (when I am used to paying $11).
Pros: Car drove from Quebec to Montreal with no problem. Comfortable and quiet.
Cons: It was a very stressful experience returning the car. It was downtown Montreal (Place Desjardins--Blvd Rene Levesque/Jeanne Mance) and one street was blocked off for a festival. Our GPS also kept trying to take us on the opposite side of the rental office. The office was closed, so we just gave it a shot to call a hotel nearby, the Hyatt Regency. Luckily the man on the phone gave us a clear route down St. Urbain (one way street) to find the office (a small sign outside a parking garage). So call that hotel if you get lost! The office was down in the parking garage. There was no sign of where to put the car, except a space with a bunch of cars with a rope across it. We decided to just unhook the rope and park it there. It also took us awhile to find the key drop (a inconspicuous pipe with a lid over it). A sign with an indication "key drop" would be helpful.

Pros: Convenient location, I guess.
Cons: The drop-off location was in the bottom level of a garage under a hotel. There was a door requiring a code, which I was not given, so I had to park on the street and go up to the hotel desk, who eventually sent a porter down to open the door for me. Once I got inside I found a budget office on the bottom level with the door open, but no employees anywhere to be found. After waiting for 15 minutes and not seeing anyone I decided to just leave my receipt and the keys in the car. I had not filled the gas tank and was hoping to ask the employee what the charge would be so I could judge if I wanted to take the car back out and find a gas station before handing the keys over or if it wasn't worth it, but obviously was unable to do that. Upon seeing my adjusted bill yesterday, I see that they charged me $122 for what could only have been at most 8 gallons of gas.

Pros: I've done over a dozen car rentals in my life and without a doubt, this was the easiest and fastest I've ever had. No upselling, or trying to get my to pay for an upgrade when my reservation was out, I was driving within 3 minutes of walking into the place. They let me switch return locations by phone no hassles at all.

Cons: drop off location had to be changed (too far). Drop off at main train station is ok but no dedicated Budget parking spot.
Pros: Free upgrade to a really nice car! Great experience with Alamo, will definitely use them again. I have previously rented with Alamo, and, although I did not get a free upgrade at that time, I still felt they had good service and the car was as expected.
Car was clean and like new. I also appreciated that they do not try to oversell you insurance. Everything is fast and efficient.

Cons: Waited in line for 30+ minutes to pick up our car in the morning. Also was not informed about key dropoff when we returned the vehicle and all the parking spots were full for Thrifty so we had to track down a parking lot attendant and get info from him (where can we park the car? where do we drop off the keys?).
