Pros: This place is way overdue for a serious overhaul. We requested and early check in and were assured by the female manager that she'd get us in around 1:30. We arrived closer to 2pm and were told the room would be done shortly. By 3:30pm my wife and I decided to sleep in the car until it was ready (we'd been traveling since late the night before).
After we got into the room we thought sleeping in the car might be the best bet: the AC unit didn't make the room much cooler and made a terrible, high pitched whine. The cleaning lady told us we shouldn't have to put up with it and called the maintenance man. However, he told us it was perfectly normal. The "Suite" consisted of a single bed by the front door and a second single bed in what was probably meant to be a closet. I'm not exadurating. The room had a midevil wrought iron hanging lamp and no room to walk around the bed.
Outside was little better. The patio was in the parking lot and consisted of a table and two iron chairs all chained and bolted to an eyebolt drilled into the parking lot.

Pros: I found the Luxx to be a charming little place. It's off the main drag, which is nice, and it has some great amenities. It's definitely a bargain - if you don't like staying in bland, cookie-cutter chain hotels but still expect a good experience, the Luxx is a great venue.
The rooms definitely feel as though they're all unique - and they likely are. Bold colors on the walls, wild patterns on floor, brightly-colored tile headboards, and some requisite mission-style wood pieces to tie it all together. It is different and welcoming. To me, it feels like home.
Love that they use key codes instead of key cards - no chance of getting locked out that way. My room had two doors - one for interior access to the hotel and a back door exiting into an outdoor lounge with hot tub access. Not sure if all of the rooms have this setup, but being able to come and go without actually going through the interior of the hotel added to the privacy - I liked this very much.
The hotel definitely seems to cater to a crowd that are likely affluent, not travelling with children, and who like something different. I didn't see any evidence of children anywhere and I was easily the youngest person I saw there as well (I'm in my mid 20's). I had no disturbances from other guests during my stay, either. It's a nice scene.
Slept great, got to my meeting on time and rested. Great staff all-around. Love this place. Will return as business brings me back to Santa Fe.

Pros: Honestly, when you book an old style motel, you think crack heads and cheap linens, and no character. Well, this was the opposite, for about the price of a Super 8, we pulled up to a gorgeous lobby with a beautiful restaurant inside and well appointed NM style decor. Pros: Garrett's Desert Inn is not a hotel in which you spend most of your time lounging in the rooms, contemplating your trip. The rooms are small, with small bathrooms, few windows, and crt TVs.
But, the key feature of the Desert Inn is that it's a one-minute walk from the main downtown area of Santa Fe! The rest of the hotels near this area run $300+, which is ridiculous, since you should be sleeping in your hotel, then immediately leaving and walking around beautiful downtown Santa Fe. And that's exactly what Garrett's provides: Their beds are clean, soft, and comfortable. Get a good night's sleep, then spend the day exploring!
