10.0 Excellent
Pros: The owner of this family-run hotel was friendly and knowledgeable. He recommended places of interest and local restaurants and had made a tourist information area inside the hotel. The room was comfortable and clean, (cleaned and linen changed daily) with choice of pillows and mattress. I am gluten and lactose intolerant and the owner created a wonderful selection of suitable dishes for my breakfast, alongside the most amazing buffet breakfast I have ever seen. He provided local produce, created wonderful hot dishes and made his own bread and cakes. The outside areas were well-cared for and planted with flowers and fruit trees. The views from the property across the area were outstanding. The owner and staff worked exceptionally hard to provide this excellent hotel and service.
Cons: We were very happy with everything during our stay.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was unbelievable. Even in a 5 star hotel I have never had such an experience. Everything was fresh and homemade: carpaccio, caprese, quiches, bread, fruit, omelettes, melanzane, zucchini, several home made cakes and so on. The owner and his family is very friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend a stay here!
Cons: -
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The manager and owner is very kind and best breakfast in town!!!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We stayed at Villa Rioddi after traveling for about two weeks. We found it to be a beautiful, restful oasis. We left recharged and ready for more. Villa Rioddi probably had the best breakfast we've had at a hotel. All the food was made in house with local ingredients. It was beautifully arranged and visually appealing. Every morning the food varied and Luca would give us a little overview. There were so many different dishes that it's hard for me to remember them all - I'll give you the highlights. He always had a selection of breads and croissants, there were local cheeses and meats. We even had wild boar sausage. Additionally, there were cooked dishes like eggs and panchetta, eggplant with Parmesan, several variations on zucchini, yummy beans, croquettes, asparagus, and many, many more. There were always sweets like chocolate cake, flan, lemon tart. Finally, all variations on coffee were freshly prepared. The cappuccino was my favorite. Best of all this is a family owned hotel and it shows. All the staff were welcoming and helpful. The hotel is clean, rooms are large, bathrooms are huge and modern, grounds are beautiful as is the pool. We highly recommend! Thank you, Luca.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Luca is a wonderful host! Always ready to help out with any problem or offer suggestions on where to go or what to see. Breakfast is fantastic! Everyday was new and delicious! The location is perfect for visiting all of the cities in the Tuscany region. Highly recommend this hotel!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Lighting in the room was very good! A common thing I notice is lighting in hotel rooms is dimmer than my normal home, especially in the bathroom. This was the brightest hotel room I've stayed in while in Italy and I loved that.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: This was a truly beautiful stay. Alessia, Walter and Guido (their dog) welcomed us in the most open way. The room was spacious, clean and quiet, the surroundings were beautiful and the pool was a genuine treat. The lovely breakfast was outside in a lovely open patio and Alessia was a perfect host. We will never forget the absolutely lovely cakes she baked for us and her other guests. We couldn't wish for a better stay to discover the surroundings like the lovely mediëval city of Volterra, just six kilometers up the mountain. Also Siena and San Gimignano were lovely. And a tip (received from Alessia): drive to Pontedera (some thirty kilometers) and take the train to Firenze and/or Pisa. Saves you stress and expensive parking tickets. In short, we couldn't be more positive about this stay.
Cons: Not a thing in the world.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The apartment was very clean & spacious & had everything we needed for our stay. There were plenty of fluffy towels. The pool area was just perfect with lovely sunny areas & covered sections if you need some shade. Our apartment had air con which was ideal. There was even a shaded area to park our car. But best if all, the host was absolutely wonderful. So friendly and helpful. She met us by our car in a golf buggy so we could load our luggage on to it and she then drove it to our apartment to save us carrying all our bags. Just perfect.
Cons: Just a small thing, the mattress was a little too firm for us.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Quiet place where you can chill and rest. Located near city (10 min drive), plates in the kitchen, air conditioning available (however controlled by host).
Cons: As there is a kitchen would be good to have some additional kit like dish soap, sponge (it was difficult to clean dishes), salt. Also there were a lot of mosquitoes so maybe something to get rid of them (in other place we had electronic devices to scare them away)
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The home made cakes for breakfast are truly amazing. The owner put so much heart and soul into the business. It really did exceed my expectations.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Very peaceful and very helpful owner
Cons: It is a little bit isolated
10.0 Excellent
Pros: It was just perfect! Very nice and still place where you can find your rest!

Pros: Alessia went above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable. The facilities were excellent and the breakfast delicious. The villa is even better than the photos suggest.

8.8 Excellent
Pros: Staff, location
7.1 Good
Pros: The staff were absolutely delightful and very good at their job. The breakfast was good.
Cons: The noise at night because the hotel is on an access street and the windows are not soundproofed. For two nights out of the five nights stay, we had very little sleep due to noise. On Friday night the relentless rock music from a nearby cafe was excessively loud with disturbing rapid drumming, which made it impossible for us to sleep until well after 1 am in the morning. We visit Italy often and stay a month at a time as we love the ambience and the people but Volterra was a big disappointment for us.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location is superb, staff were excellent with good facilities.
Cons: No ironing board or iron

10.0 Excellent
Pros: It was a lovely stay at Agrihotel il Palagetto! The villa is located in a solitary area among the hills and olive gardens. From the terrace opens gorgeous views of the surroundings. This is a very cozy hotel with a soothing atmosphere: beautiful sunsets, birdsong and cooing doves under the roof. The room is cozy, spacious and clean. Very nice and helpful staff. Special thanks to the owners of the hotel Marco and Julia: a very nice couple, they helped us in many questions and took into consideration all our needs . Good breakfast buffet, delicious coffee and a pleasant atmosphere in the restaurant. The hotel is situated in a solitary place, so choosing this hotel is better to rent a car. As for the sightseeing you can visit the nearby medieval town of Volterra, which is 20 minutes by car, the city of Siena (1 hour by car), and if you want to go the sea, the nearest cozy sea town on the coast is Cecina (also is an 1 hour drive from villa). So the hotel exceeded all expectations and the stay left only a pleasant impressions!

6.7 Good
Pros: Exceptional location, in the middle of the Toscana hills. Very charming house. Toscana typical food was really good.
Cons: Just a bit hard to find (especially during the night) :)
6.0 Good
Pros: The countryside was beautiful, the hotel very rustic and charming and the facilities relaxing and wonderful. we loved the pool
Cons: the staff were hard to track down when we arrived. There is nothing to say 'welcome' or 'entrance' and we had to wander around to find the main doorway and reception which is frustrating after a long drive. When we wanted to check out we waited ages for someone to attend to us, even after ringing the bell. It was really frustrating to have to wait ages for coffee at breakfast as the machine was behind the bar. it would be easy and alot more convenient to have a self service urn at the breakfast buffet.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: very friendly stuff, great view
6.0 Good
Pros: perfekt view, Pool, nice dinner, good kitchen, room clean and ok
Cons: garden is very poor, nobody cares for the poolarea..dead flowers....
5.6 Okay
Pros: Fabulous location - views are out of this world. Room very charming and bathroom a good size. Staff are very friendly.
Cons: Dinner service was chaotic! Didn't receive all the dishes, had to chase up dessert, never got the salad. Part of the charm maybe but not everybody would find it so.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: I loved it. Would totally recommend it to everyone. The view is amazing and the staff, Guilia is wonderful. Don't use a GPS to get there, call for directions.

9.2 Excellent
Pros: Good breakfast. Helpful happy staff. Great location in the old town.
7.1 Good
Pros: The staffs. Every staff was friendly and helpful.
Cons: The city-gate to the hotel was closed that we experienced difficulty to get to the hotel. Use your google map to get to the city and after that be sure to contact the hotel and get the information about the route. Breakfast was somewhat far from expectation. San Lino is a 4-star hotel, but foods seemed slightly above 2-star level. Our triple room was too narrow that we were not able to feel comfort in it.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: It was a perfect hotel for our needs.
Cons: Nothing at all.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Great location inside the walls of Volterra. The building used to be a convent, and the sister's names were still on the doors - added some charm and history. The pool area was nice and relaxing. Staff was very friendly!
Cons: The bed was a little uncomfortable.

Pros: Very good breakfast included in price, friendly staff, huge parking place. Approx. 9 km to Voltera city. In our opinion Voltera was much better in day time than night time.
Cons: The restaurant was closed this day so we had to go somewhere else.

Cons: No noise insulation and the corridor echoes. Woke up one hour before the alarm due to noise.

6.7 Good
Pros: - Breakfast was pretty good and with a nice selection of products. - Comfy bed. - Free wide parking.
Cons: - I don't know what is wrong with Tuscany and mobile-data/WI-FI, but I'm having hard time going online at a fast rate. Anyway, WI-FI signal in my room was weak.

Pros: It is a friendly hotel. The staff are very welcoming and helpful and such a nice place to stay.
Cons: It would be good to have a mini-bar in the room.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Staff is amazing Service is great You really feel like you are in Tuscany like the ones you see on the movies The restaurant owned by the family is sensational Honestly i can't wait to come back
Cons: Air con wasnt working
7.5 Good
Pros: The hotel was very good overall, had a good receptions and a good restaurant downstairs. The food was nice, and the place cute. It must be a great stop during the winter. It had a very good shower as well. And the breakfast had a lot of options and was very good!
Cons: The restaurant had a lot of bugs (spiders and mosquitos), which made dining and breakfast uncomfortable. The option to dine inside was given, but it was super hot there, so we had to choose between bugs or heat. The rooms were a sauna. We went during a heat wave, but it was just unbearably hot inside the rooms. The old air conditioning felt like a crappy ventilator, and even with the window open it still didn't ventilate enough. It felt like we slept inside an oven. It was truly awful.
7.1 Good
Pros: Restaurant was good
Cons: Breakfast was weak
6.7 Good
Pros: The location was good, the room was comfortable and the food was to a good standard.
Cons: The air conditioning wasn’t great

7.1 Good
Pros: Clean n tidy, with a very friendly and helpful receptionist
Cons: Felt isolated when walking 1km into the town centre
7.1 Good
Pros: Very nice building. Rooms are clean but quite small, the bathroom is fully equiped. Very good breakfast. Location is ok - just 15-20 minutes walking to the old town. Free parking for the car included in the price.
Cons: Based on the photos and opinions I've expected more. Rooms are generally ok but the renovation would be nice to do. It's generally clean but you have an impression that it's not. In the bathroom there was a weird window, I guess directing to the bathroom of the next room (!?). Reception is closing at 6 pm and there is a 3-hours break during the day as well - I don't understand why :)
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Lovely converted monastery, helpful & friendly staff. Breakfast was nice, eaten outside.
Cons: Very noisy unfortunately, lots of noise from rooms nearby & corridor.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Charming facility with good parking. There was an elevator which is important since my friends and I are well into our 60s and myself over 70; hauling luggage upstairs is just terrible for us. Reception was very friendly and very helpful for directions to town and laundromat. Room was large and could sleep 5 on twin beds if needed; we were 3. Closets available for each of us with a desk in the room. Multiple outlets for cell phones available. Bathroom had a separate toilet room and a separate shower room from sink area. The courtyard with tables around under the portico was charming; we sat out there having our beers and wine. Breakfast was excellent with various pastries, hard boiled eggs, cheese, ham, breads, etc. Cafe-au-lait good and facility for tea, juice. Cappuccinos available for sale at reception.
Cons: Reception had hours in the morning and then again in the afternoon, which limited time with them. Walk into town doable but took about 20 min. However, paid parking nearer to town was available.

7.5 Good
Pros: Close to the old city center of Voltera. The room and the bathroom were bigger than expected for an old building. The breakfast was perfect! There is a free parking in the hotel.
Cons: The room was next to the main entrance of the hotel and it was too noisy....

Pros: We really enjoyed our two night stay here. It is a short walk to the walled city and a great base for exploring the region. Parking was convenient and breakfast was excelleny.
Cons: Everything was fine.
7.5 Good
Pros: House had character. Very near historic centre.

Pros: The host Daniele was amazing and so nice. We arrived one hour before check-in and he let us check-in early so we could go into the old town to explore. He also recommended some local restaurants.
Cons: Our room was next to the breakfast area so we were woken up early with loud talking. Pillows were too hard - no soft pillow options.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast was superb and in a very nice setting. Staff were great. Happy and helpful each day. The hotel building is very nice and good to have parking on site.
Cons: The walk into the walled town is short but felt unsafe at times due to the lack of footpaths and heavy traffic.
Hotel Foresteria Volterra - Volterra - Building

8.1 Excellent (646 reviews)

When you stay at Hotel Foresteria Volterra in Volterra, you'll be in the suburbs, within a 5-minute drive of Roman Theatre and Etruscan Museum. Featured amenities include a 24-hour front desk, multilingual staff, and luggage storage. Free self parking is available onsite.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The location was nice within walking distance of the main Volterra experience. The staff at the front desk were wonderful and extremely helpful when i ran into a rather serious issue with my rental car. In particular of note is Melissa .. she went above and beyond and i greatly appreciated it. The breakfast was nice, typical european style breakfast and nice strong coffee. The dinner menu was wonderful with lots of choice, I ate 6 out of my 7 dinners there and was not dissapointed. would definitely return to this property.
Cons: I had booked this hotel mainly because it was advertised as quiet and peaceful which is exactly what i am looking for in a vacation hotel. However, i arrived late Thursday and discovered that Saturday and Sunday the place and entire surrounding area was overtaken by a bike race. Most places inform you ahead of time that something like this would be taking place to give you a choice of keeping the booking or changing it. Or at the very least, to be prepared for it. I took myself away for the entire day just to escape the noise and ruccus. I would also like to see an open space area for non smokers where one can just sit with a book and glass of wine. the only open area seating was all smoking. It was very nice to have a balcony however there was no furniture on the balcony. One had to bring a chair out from inside the room to sit outside. the bed pillows were the equivalent to sleeping on a brick. very very hard and uncomfortable. This should be looked at .
9.7 Excellent
Pros: We really liked Hotel Foresteria. Hotel staff were excellent - friendly and helpful. The hotel's restaurant was a gem - great dinner at a very reasonable price. Rooms were not fancy, but they were clean and spacious, and the bed was very comfortable.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Staff was nice, explained how to get the the city and what to see. Although short walk out of the city but surrounded by trees and with nice view of valley. Big room, clean and with balcony. Diverse breakfast.
Cons: Balcony window shutters are hard to lift, was a bit of work to get the morning sun and beautiful view.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Very nice environment & atmosphere, very friendly staff and good breakfast.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: great breakfast, we liked the location a nice 10mins walk into town, quiet neighbourhood.
7.9 Good
Pros: Clean, good location, reasonable value
Cons: The mattress was a bit firm
7.1 Good
Pros: location is pretty good within 10 min walk to Volterra town, breakfast is fare, the structure is pretty nice, some common areas for reading, gathering. very spacious room with balcony, bathroom is big too.
Cons: the mattress and the bed frame is the worst ever... as how much of the room rate, I'd really expect a more decent bed the springs of the mattress are pretty much worn out and the rack of the bed makes lots of noise every small movement makes the sleeping almost impossible.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The rooms were nice and clean. The staff kind
Cons: To switch on the heating myself
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Views from our room were lovely
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Very nice and quiet location, friendly staff, clean rooms. Breakfast was simple buffet and fitted the bill for both parents and kids. Town is within walking distance and very pretty. Eating out was much cheaper than in other towns and villages.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Proximity to the city and breakfast was great. Kids loved the bunk beds and staff was friendly and helpful.
Cons: Beds are Italian so they are hard as a rock, but it is Italy.

9.2 Excellent
Pros: Excellent location. Very helpful staff.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely, traditional hotel in a beautiful spot on a historic street. Parking is not close, but this is the only negative. Helpful and friendly staff, new bathroom, free soft drink in the fridge, good breakfast.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Staff at the reception was extremely kind, knowledgeable and available. Also the indications we received before our arrival concerning parking, access to the city center, ecc were spot-on! Location is excellent and the room was absolutely fine, very large and comfortable bathroom. Breakfast was normal, nothing exceptional.
Cons: Can't think of anything
9.7 Excellent
Pros: Beautifully appointed room, breathtaking view, wonderful service! Underground parking was definitely a bonus. Breakfast included was splendid. Dinner in the restaurant Palmaria was sublime.
Cons: All of this beauty, location and exceptional service comes with a price tag, but it is well worth it!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast: very good (coffee, freshly pressed orange juice, local salami...) Family room: comfortable for 5 persons and very nice and clean bathroom. The staff can speak many languages fluently: Italian, English, Russian, Hungarian, Romanian... and they are extremely friendly.
Cons: The loading and unloading was a little bit difficult, but it was not the hotel mistake. The hotel is located in the narrow street of the old city. I would provide the water free of charge from the minibar.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Location is ok and staff was friendly.
Cons: Breakfast room is way too small and it's chaos when too many guests.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great location, the parking in lot is 3 minutes from the hotel ( if you are by car) The room was amazing and the breakfast was speechless All the staff were very helpful all the time
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Clean, up to date, roomy, comfortable, great staff, well located. Did not like paying parking meter for parking.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The location was very good. The staff was very accommodating, providing us with wine glasses for our room and much more. The included breakfast was very good as well.
Cons: Even though it was late fall, being from a cooler climate, the rooms were very warm for us. Fortunately we were able to open windows to cool the room off. Shutting the heat off at the thermostat did not seem to have an effect.

7.5 Good
Pros: Close to the old city center of Voltera. The room and the bathroom were bigger than expected for an old building. The breakfast was perfect! There is a free parking in the hotel.
Cons: The room was next to the main entrance of the hotel and it was too noisy....
8.8 Excellent
Pros: We really enjoyed our two night stay here. It is a short walk to the walled city and a great base for exploring the region. Parking was convenient and breakfast was excelleny.
Cons: Everything was fine.
7.5 Good
Pros: House had character. Very near historic centre.
Cons: Breakfast area chilly in October
8.3 Excellent

8.0 Excellent
Pros: Great location right in town and parking was close.
Cons: All was good.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location. Friendly staff. Wonderful breakfast
7.0 Good
Pros: Breakfast was THE. BOMB. It was awesome. On our check-out day we met the people who were presumably the owners (the wife made the coffee) and they were absolutely lovely. On check-in, we were escorted to our room. There's a terrace upstairs that's probably lovely in the summer. They let us store our bags after we checked out.
Cons: The man who helped us with check-in was really not great at his job - maybe not explicitly rude but definitely not someone I would hire if I had a hotel. The toilet flush didn't work. The TV was small and got very few non-Rai channels but this wasn't that big of a deal for us.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Located right in the historical center, very clean and comfortable, good breakfast selection, overall style very cute and cozy, extremely friendly and helpful stuff, clear instructions for car parking
9.1 Excellent
Pros: Ideal location, great price, a nice breakfast was included, friendly staff who spoke English
Cons: Bed was not very comfortable

9.2 Excellent
Pros: Staff and location/views
Cons: Pillows and beds a little bit uncomfortable
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The views the ground floor rooms are superb. Worth the extra euro for a balcony that opens to the valley view. The sunsets went on forever AFTER the sun went down. We earned our beer and pizza walking up the short hill to the walled medieval town. Check out the fountain complete with a secret fish pool for a break on the walk up. The staff were passionate Italian locals and knew their job. They arranged a ride up the hill for 10euro with no worries. Easy parking at the hotel in early October. The bus crowd staying at the hotel ate early and were gone with minimal impact to our serenity. I’d go back.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Good service, very friendly and added additional bed for our daughter for free and without being asked. Very clean. Well equipped bathroom (bathtub).
Cons: Bedroom over entrance door, “garden view” was the view on the parking lot, people talking and smoking just under the window at night and in the morning. Restaurant didn’t meat the expectations.
5.4 Okay
Pros: Good setting
Cons: The hotel foyer was a good start but the rooms need a lot of work doing to bring them up to standard. The shower cubicle in particular was dirty and the grouting was black in places.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Very warm welcome at the reception (the man in the red football clothes) and was always walking very fast! Helped us reslly good in showing us around and with the wellness at the hotel
Cons: Nothing
8.3 Excellent
Cons: Water in the pool was extremely cold
8.8 Excellent
Cons: Could not operate aircon in room. Room was hot. Had to sleep with windows open
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Comfortable, clean, great pool and view Helpful and friendly staff
Cons: It’s a steep walk of about 15 mins. into town. On the plus side it’s downhill on the way back!
7.9 Good
Pros: The swimming pool was absolutely great! We really enjoyed it even tough the weather was not swimming-pool-friendly all the day. The valley view from our room and from the pool was amazing. I also liked free and easy parking in front of the hotel. We also liked the breakfast which comprised of many dishes including fresh made delicious cappuccino.
Cons: From my point of view the hotel facilities were time-worn. There were few spots of mould in our shower which may have been a temporary issue however still it ruined our bathroom experience.

3.8 Mediocre
Pros: Only the view from the window can be appreciated. Breakfast was OK. The receptionist understood English.
Cons: Nothing was as I had expected. The standard room was very small and run-down, the bathroom and the bedclothes were not so clean. The souvenirs left in the fridge were not found...
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful small hotel with breathtaking views over the Tuscany area, operated by a nice family who makes sure your stay is to your liking and expectations.
Cons: I love the style and character of the old main house of the hotel - however - there is no elevator which could provide a little challenge when you have to carry large heavy suitcases up the stairs.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location was great and staff were friendly and helpful. It was a joy. We arrived late because the rental car was not ready and they squeezed us in for dinner, which was lovely.
Cons: Better wifi in the room, that's it.

Pros: Pool was perfect. It was very hot and fits pefectly that we can cold ourselves in a pool.
Cons: Room was small, but it was ok for us.
