10.0 Excellent
Pros: James & Stuart are perfect hosts, everything is ready with the best hotel standards, but you can really feel at ease as in a friend's house. Save some time to spend in the library of the house by the fire with a gin cocktail that you can prepare yourself, all the needed material is left for you in the room by the hosts, connoisseurs of gin, except for the drinks themselves that you are welcome to bring.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: What did I like about Firhall? EVERYTHING!!!! The breakfasts were AMAZING! Stuart is a very good chef. Stuart and James are exceptional hosts. Our stay could not have been anymore comfortable. The attention to detail, the amenities, the quality of everything that was provided made it a luxurious 5 star stay. We happened upon Firhall when we were moving on from the Isle of Skye. We booked for 3 nights and ended up extending it to 5 nights because it was so comfortable and hard to leave. We even had Stuart make us a couple of sack lunches and they were delicious as well! It was a joy to interact with both James and Stuart and they both genuinely want your stay to be as comfortable as possible without being overbearing. We intend to make another trip to Scotland because there just was not enough time to see everything we wanted to see. Firhall will most definitely be a stopping point for our next trip! Highly recommend!
Cons: There is NOT ONE thing I didn’t like.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location- perfect location to do day excursions such as to the surrounding lochs and activities like horse riding Service- superb service always with a smile Food- some of the best food we've eaten in Scotland. Stuart and James use organic local produce and put on daily specials for breakfast. Absolutely delicious. Rooms- the rooms have everything you would want from a hairdryer to a coffeemaker to a fully equipped en suite bathroom. Fabulous decor throughout the hotel.

Pros: The decor in the house is of a very high standard and tasteful. Playful Scottish themes with a subtle twist. Nothing over the top. Very comfortable rooms. Lovely beds and bedding. All high quality. Lovely hosts and wondeful breakfast. Free range eggs from their own chickens. Better than many boutique hotels We highly recommend and would love to return for a longer visit some day.

The interiors are simply exquisite: a testament to the impeccable taste and attention to detail of the hosts—James and Stuart. The rooms blend Scottish design details and period features with the highest quality materials and craftsmanship. And to top it all off, the hosts are very down to earth and chatty—we loved hearing about the chickens :). A true gem of a place! Thanks from Nicola and Simon

Tigh na Sgiath Country House Hotel - Grantown-on-Spey - Building

S$ 157+
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We were a late check in. The gentleman who checked us in was really friendly and helpful. We had just finished the North Coast 500. He was more than accommodating. I have already recommended this lovely hotel and will continue to do so. The breakfast was scrumptious and the coffee was good too!!
Cons: That I wasn't there long enough!!
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Food, location and the building, itself, were fantastic. Great interior with a nice personal touch. The bedroom was delightful with a fantastic jacuzzi bath - perfect for relaxing after a long walk.
Cons: Unfortunately, due to the age of the building, soundproofing is non-existent - we could hear other guests bathroom breaks on the second floor as well as conversation in the landings. This is not the owners fault and certainly not something I would consider a massive negative, only a small irritation. The only other point would be the muted environment; it felt difficult to engage my partner in conversation in anything above a whisper in the dining and living areas outside of the room.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Loved the place, love the house and its set up.

Cons: Not a negative, just a suggestion - we were asked to sit down on arrival to fill out the registration form and also to make our choices for the evening meal, before being shown to our room - a little aperitif would have been welcome after a long drive!

It is a soul occupancy accommodation. So my husband and I were made to feel very special indeed.. Breakfast at the School House are amazing and set you up for the day. Sharon's homemade granola and cheese scones were delicious..and Andy freshly prepared our fresh fruit juice every morning. We felt so pampered . Sharon is very knowledgeable on the surrounding area and beyond and gave us lots of tips and advice on where to go and what to do. The School House is just delightful, and is set in such an idealic location, surrounded my wild moors and hills ~ Yet easily accessible to Grantown-on-Spey and the beaches of Moray Firth.. In all a wonderful stay and we will definitely be returning next year!
Cons: That we only had two nights at this wonderful accommodation. We didn't want to leave. ☹️
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Can't recommend this place highly enough, it's a great place to stay. The building is an old Victorian schoolhouse and there are lots of nods to its previous history. The room was extremely spacious and very tastefully decorated. Very comfortable bed, great shower. There's a real emphasis on sourcing quality local products from great coffee, hand wash, furniture and ingredients. Breakfast was amazing, all fabulous local ingredients and homemade treats. The owners were very hospitable and generous and great for tips on what to do. I wished we'd had a few more days there as there's so much to do in the area. We did some great cycling and hiking in Rothiemurcus and the reindeers are a must-see. I wish we'd also had time to travel east to see the coast too so i'd recommend allowing time for that. The school house is located about 5 min drive outside Grantown on Spey where there are a handful of modest but decent restaurants and bars, and a supermarket.
10.0 Excellent

Pros: Staff were friendly and the location was good. The room (and ensuite) was nicely decorated and clean. The hotel generally was quiet, clean and in good shape. We had an uncomplicated, light breakfast only, so cant comment on the food.
Cons: There were a few niggles. The room felt a little small for the size of the bed, but I guess this is a subjective thing. There was no bedside lamp in the room, we went to reception and asked for one but unfortunately it never arrived. The radiator didnt work, but a little electric heater had been provided and this was perfectly adequate.
6.7 Good
Pros: The female staff member who was on reception duty and doubling up as waitress at breakfast this morning was very nice. Very nice breakfast too.
Cons: After checking in, we got into our room to find it was a small single room with a double bed shoved into it, the room was not big enough for a double bed and there was no space for a wardrobe or drawers. We did complain and were moved as other guests hadn't checked in. The hotel is run down and very badly needs upgrading this appears to be getting carried out slowly by new management.
6.7 Good
Pros: Value with breakfast, helpful staff. Good wifi
Cons: Springy mattress, noisy fans going through the night, smell of burgers coming through the window
5.8 Okay
Pros: Location and breakfast was good.
Cons: Rooms were old and tired looking, shower was very noisy. Corridors were very smelly. The mattresses have seen better days. There was no explanation about how to get in if you’re returning late. No signage for the rooms.
6.3 Good
Pros: Convenience of location but wouldn't stay again after our experience
Cons: On check in given key and pointed in direction of our room no info provided on when we could eat dinner or breakfast times etc. We got our things in and settled and went down for dinner to be told no table available but the restaurant was quiet only 2 tables sitting. Went out to look for place to eat decided to come back to hotel see if we could eat later... No was the response after guy on reception asked were we there to check in after doing so just an hour before he had forgotten us already. No dinner available in the restaurant either of the 2 nights we stayed... The second night waiter mumbled a bit said he'd have to turn around a table to go to bar which we didn't want to do and again the restaurant was practically empty. Said we come back down but had to ask when... We didn't come back down though felt like we weren't wanted to be honest so ate out in Wee Puffin down the street. Staff not very tentative and didn't feel like we were made to feel welcome. Breakfast staff were the friendliest of all.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Rooms were basic but clean and comfortable. Breakfast service was excellent, nice dining room.
Cons: The fabric was a bit tired and dated but we got value for money all round.

Overview Reviews
The Craiglynne Hotel is set right in the heart of the Highlands in Grantown-on-Spey, only 14 miles from the busy Scottish resort of Aviemore with views over the Cromdale Hills. This great value hotel is full of traditional Scottish charm. The hotel dates back to Victorian times and still maintains the attractive stone faade with towers, and bay windows looking on to the pretty gardens with picnic tables. The interior is comfortable and homely; the public rooms and restaurant feature chandeliers, natural dcor and large lounge areas with roaring log fires. The guestrooms are spacious and comfortable with a tartan twist, some rooms have views of the Cairngorms, all have flat screen TVs, en-suite bathrooms and welcome tea tray.

Pros: Breakfast was lovely. As were staff.
Cons: Room was very noisy as we were under stairs. Not good for kids. Very limited juice choice for them. Menu was quite poor. Was clean but dated. Shower stuck on had to get a towel to wrap round it to turn off. No tv reception when we first got into room which was sorted quickly.
7.9 Good
Pros: Good value for money
Cons: Nothing
7.5 Good
Pros: Nice and central for lots of walks.
Cons: A couple of small points. I received a message saying there would be no charge for the dog (which surprised me) and then another saying it would be £12 per night (which is what I expected). The tap for the shower was very stiff and tested my strength somewhat!
7.9 Good
Pros: Breakfast was good, but it was the same every day I stayed.Evening meal was excellent. The room was really quiet.
Cons: It is an old hotel, and shows the signs of age-noisy stairs, etc. The room carpet could do with a good clesn.

Cons: Evening meals were awfull first night partner had his main and starter and both of mine were wrong and starter was inedible
4.6 Okay
Pros: It was a fine place overall once we had changed rooms we enjoyed our stay.
Cons: When we arrived the room was very dingy and small which was not what we were expecting due to the price. You couldn't stand up in the shower due to an overhanging ceiling (I'm 5ft) and the wifi didn't reach the room. There were no bulbs in the lights and we had been sent in the wrong direction by staff to get to the room in the first place which took us round the maze of the hotel. The staff fixed this and sent us to a much nicer room after we complained. The breakfast was so so. Everything is sitting in gastros buffet style, which is standard practice, but it did mean it was quite dry. Perhaps putting out some beans or sauces to go with it would help? Food is stopped being served in the evening at 8.30pm which is a little early for us! The main issue we had with the new room was that it was on the ground floor with a lovely bay window looking right out to where people park their cars. People were also standing out there smoking weed and the smell would drift into our room which was gross.
5.8 Okay
Pros: The croissants were good. They moved us to a different room when asked.
Cons: Breakfast wasn’t ‘Scottish’. We had to ask for another room as it smelt damp.
7.1 Good
Pros: Staff were lovely, however, seemed overstretched.
Cons: On arrival, we were given a key to a room that had already been occupied, this isn't an issue for us, mistakes can be made however security is a major risk in this case. We had requested a double bed with a bath which they were unable to accommodate, our own fault for being fussy when they were so busy. Dinner service was quick and staff were again lovely (same staff as checking us in and at the bar) the meal itself although nothing particularly wrong with it certainly lacked attention, for example, When we arrived at the hotel we viewed an al' a cart menu that looked lovely, to then be told at our table this isn't available and a simple bar or dinner menu was being offered this wasn't as impressive. I ordered the Lemon tart for dessert, the plate arrived in no time was freezer cold the whole dish had been prepared in advance and placed in the fridge which meant that the pastry was very soft and not enjoyable. On check out, I asked for the bill to be told they don't print them, an odd arrangement however I was too tired to argue. So paid the bill blind, the amount sounded accurate however I have come away with no idea what we have actually paid for. Even an offer to email may have been better? On the whole, it is a pleasant country hotel, however, I do feel there are some key issues within the day to day runnings of this hotel and being in the industry these are very clear.
4.6 Okay
Pros: Location is central.
Cons: Freezing cold shower. Rude staff at check in. Room very tired, blinds very dirty. Stains on the bedding. I will never stay there again.
