Due to a complaint on a previous rental relating to a puncture repair which my insurance paid for, Europcar refused to rent the car to me. I was left without a car following an overnight trans Atlantic flight. On checking reviews for their Sheffield branch, almost all are negative and Kayak should think about not using this company.
I got to Manchester UK a day later than planned, and when I went to pick up the car, was advised that my reservation was cancelled. I asked them to just take one day off the reservation, as I needed a vehicle and would return the vehicle on the original date described. They refused to do so, and advised that I would need to make a whole new booking and I would be treated as a 'walk in' I had no choice. I asked then for them to refund the payment I had made to Kayak, they advised that was not in their ability, that I would have to go back to Kayak to get the refund. I have tried to reach kayak, but you folks do not make contact you that easy. I would like someone to reply to this email and give me my money back. Thank youi Michael Kamis
I had prepaid my booking with Europcar via Kayak. Upon arrival at the rental counter at 7:00AM, the person told me I couldn't rent a car because my current driver's license had only been issued on 8/17/23 and was less than 12 months old. He said that without a copy of my prior license, which of course I didn't have, he couldn't release the vehicle and would therefore cancel the reservation. When I said I'd already paid for the reservation, he said he couldn't help me on the refund, and that I'd have to deal with Kayak. When I told him I rent a vehicle on average once a week, all over the world, and have never had this problem; and also told him I'd been driving for almost 50 years, he said it didn't matter. He said this was Europcar's policy. So, I walked to the next counter (Enterprise) and hired another rental car. It was a terrible experience. I will never rent from Europcar again. Please help me obtain my refund. You should see in the system that Europcar canceled the reservation. Thank you.
This is one of the worst car rental experiences I’ve had. Kayak is terrible to get to. In spite of all the push ads I’ve received from them they have not responded and customer service telephone numbers give out wrong information and Europcar refuses to attend to my rental agreement changes stating that I’ve booked a 3rd party such as Kayak. So you guys do not add value. You just make life more difficult for car renters
We’ve booked an SUV WV Tuareg, as we were 5 people. Upon arrival we were given a Capra which was pretty small and was not comfortable at all for the passengers on the back. On arrival, we were charged 2x one way charges as we were to return the car in a different city (this was not mentioned when we were making the reservation). After we picked up the car, we received an email that the return office wasn’t working Sundays (the day we were supposed to return the car) and we were to pay additional £60 for an out of hours return. This was not mentioned neither during the reservation process, nor during pickup by the person at the Europcar desk. Overall we paid a lot of money, most of all surcharges, for a very uncomfortable drive.
