8.3 Excellent
Pros: The warmth - both actual and metaphorical.
Cons: Not really a negative but the location is really for those travelling by car or bike. I did train and bus so it wasn't as good.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The thing we liked the most was that when we arrived Nathan greeted us and explained where everything was and their system for doing things, this was great because I hate that feeling of not knowing where to go or what to do in the morning. The breakfast was good (lovely dining room), the bedroom and guest lounge are very comfortable and the location is great. Dartmoor is just on the doorstep, Dartmouth a reasonably short drive. I feel I should mention the proximity to the A38 as I did have concerns that we might hear it when I booked and others may also be concerned, quite simply it's not a problem as it is the faintest of rumbles in the garden and not heard at all indoors - even with our bedroom window open all night.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We received a warm and friendly welcome from Nathan and Kate. We were given a key to the front door so that we could come and go as we pleased, which was great because we were attending an evening function elsewhere. Our room was bright and airy, spotlessly clean and well stocked with complimentary teas/coffee. The bed was extremely comfortable. The bathroom was gleaming and had lovely fluffy towels. Breakfast was delicious. The whole experience was great. We would be happy to recommend Gages Mill as a great place to stay. Nathan very kindly gave us a lift to the function we were attending, saving us a tricky walk on busy road.
Cons: There was nothing to dislike.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything
Cons: Loved it, lovely hosts and just what we needed
7.9 Good
Pros: Great breakfasts. Lovely owners. Good location
Cons: Bed a bit hard for my personal liking. Broadband could be better. Shower could have been more powerful.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Kate and Nathan made us very welcome in their home. The breakfasts were very good and the whole place gives out a positive vibe.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Kate & Nathan were wonderful hosts! Their property is about 600 years old and full of character yet with modern comforts and conveniences. Located on the edge of the moor, the setting and gardens are lovely and so very relaxing. And breakfast was delicious! Check out their website for more information! And it's a very manageable walk into the quaint town of Ashburton.
Cons: Not at all a complaint, but by way of information, unless you have a car your best means of getting there is by taxi.

Pros: Janet and Martin have bought the hotel in early 2018 and redecorated it very nicely. They are caring for the host, prepare great breakfasts ( try the English one!!). Martin will give you maps and advice on your discovery of Dartmore. We Strongly recommend this hotel.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Our first visit to Eastwrey Barton, and we were delighted with our choice. Janet and Martin did indeed provide a warm welcome and generous hospitality. They did everything possible to ensure our comfort, and were very accommodating in providing a beautiful room for our son at a very reasonable price. Our rooms were comfortable, contemporary and tasteful, providing a high standard of everything required, and also had the most wonderful views through large windows of the large garden and Dartmoor beyond . The bathrooms were spotless, contemporary and generously stocked with lovely toiletries. Rooms cleaned and refreshed daily. Breakfasts were best quality ingredients and delicious. Janet and Martin were a great source of advice on the area, and unfailingly friendly, but never intrusive. It is their first season - their enthusiasm is refreshing, and their professionalism is commensurate with the most experienced of hosts. We shall certainly return.
Cons: Loved it all. Could not have been better.

9.2 Excellent
Pros: The hosts were brilliant, very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was amazing too. The room (annexe) was clean and comfortable, though you cannot change the heating settings. The location is perfect for anything you wish to do and see. Despite all the good (which far outweighs any negative points), for what it is, I thought it was a little pricey considering. Hence I'd give it 9.5 out of ten.
Cons: The price

10.0 Excellent
Pros: The bed was comfy and clean stylish and large. The room was sizeable with no expense spared on quality. The rooms as we stayed in two were very different quirky and entertaining. Having a past history as a boarding school lots of artifacts of said school. Our first room was big and possibly a former dorm. And the second room was the headmasters office. Food was exceptional staff were happy and helpful.
Cons: Nothing not to like.

9.0 Excellent
Pros: great service. Lovely food. Nice views
Cons: A bit noisy in the morning (outside the hotel). Not in walking distance to anywhere
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely quiet location, very good breakfast and evening meal. Even though there were weddings on the both nights that we stayed, once we were in our room we couldn't hear any noise. Bed was very comfortable.
Cons: Not quite sure where it was coming from, but there was a funny smell in our bathroom - as a retired builder I suggest checks on the shower and handbasin waste pipes could possibly be needed. Other than that, everything else was spotlessly clean.

Cons: N/A
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Staff and food were faultless.
Cons: The room was very noisy (18) and happened to be just outside the cleaners store. We were woken early by an informal staff meeting just outside our door. The extractor from the kitchen and the hand dryer in the toilet downstairs are very audible. We wouldn't let us put is off as it may just be this room.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: A beautiful historic building which has been thoughtfully restored, such a comfortable bed and an excellent breakfast cheerily served by Nick, a very welcoming place: Willow in the restaurant, Ben at reception, Steve a charming host for whom nothing is too much trouble and Tai who kindly did my online check-in. I look forward to my next stay in this lovely hotel in such a beautiful village.

Pros: Stunning location set in a tiny village great walks good sized room and no charge for our 2 dogs
Cons: When we arrived was not informed dinner was booked up breakfast was not the best I've had toast hardly cooked and small portions and no seasoning
9.0 Excellent
Pros: A warm welcome and a spacious but cosy bedroom with a sparkling bathroom. The bed proved extremely comfortable. The ambience in the bar was just what I wanted on a January night and sitting by the log fire as I ate my delicious supper was a delightful experience. Breakfast was substantial. My plate of smoked salmon and scrambled eggs sustained me until tea time.
Cons: My only quibble is that my cooked breakfast was presented well before I'd finished my dish of muesli.

9.2 Excellent
Pros: The hotel has a homely feel. The staff were friendly and helpful. There is a lovely comfy lounge . Our room had everything we needed and the bed was very comfortable.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Charming coaching inn with lively bar, exceptional food and great lounge with wood burner and comfy sofas. Room was lovely - very comfortable beds and cracking view out over the countryside.
Cons: Our room (2) was a little cold but electric heaters were provided, also had to turn the shower off as the pressure was so much that it risked flooding the bathroom!
9.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff were just delightful and were on hand with a smile any time we needed anything. We stayed over Christmas and they worked their socks off! We booked in for Christmas lunch which was lovely. Many thanks to everyone! Our bedroom was warm and very comfortable. The shower was brilliant - really powerful despite being on the 2nd floor. Very comfy bed. Breakfast was simple: very nice coffee and the usual choice of 'Devon breakfast' , cereals etc. This is a country hotel which is homely and welcoming. Don't expect 5 star luxury, but it is very comfortable indeed and well worth staying in.
Cons: I would have appreciated some berries with my greek yoghurt and some sourdough, more rustic type of bread, instead of the Hovis type of stuff which is on offer. If you have a room facing Court Street, traffic can bother you a bit during the day, but it's fine at night. Perhaps the hotel could invest in some double glazing at some point?
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Good location in centre of town. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Dinner in the restaurant was outstanding - fabulous food - couldn't fault it. Room was warm and very comfortable.
Cons: After the wonderful dinner, breakfast was slightly disappointing. The sausages and black pudding were not of a standard that I would have expected, given the outstanding quality of the meal the night before. The scrambled eggs were of a quality that I would have expected if they had been part of a help yourself buffet, rather than prepared to order. Having said all that it was all hot and acceptable, just didn't come up to the standard of the meal the night before.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff were all very friendly and exceptionally helpful. The food was delicious and the facilities were great.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Welcoming friendly staff, a nice clean room with a comfortable bed. Great breakfasts and good vegan and vegetarian offerings for dinner. A lovely lounge to sit in.

Pros: It's a very friendly and welcoming place with a good atmosphere in a great location.
Cons: I liked all of it
9.6 Excellent
Pros: What’s not to like, wonderful atmosphere, lovely traditional English pub and accommodation right in the heart of Chagford. The owner is friendly and ‘Willow’ the Labrador is a delight. The rooms are very clean and comfortable. Food is varied and reasonably priced, and the local beers and wines should keep you in good spirits. If you want a good honest decent place to stay for a weekend or couple of days then this is the place for you.
Cons: Cannot think of any anything negative to say
7.5 Good
Pros: Nice pub - excellent breakfast!
Cons: Nothing not to like but a bit pricey! Also parking can be a problem.

Overview Reviews

10.0 Excellent
Pros: As a family of 6 we always struggle to find a room big enough but the family room at the Cromwell Arms was perfect for us, and a good breakfast in the morning. Great location.
Cons: You can hear the noise from the pub at night but that is to be expected. It didn't impact us but may do if you're a light sleeper. It doesn't go on that late and if you aren't travelling with children you may well enjoy spending the evening in the pub anyway.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Location was good and breakfast was good
6.7 Good
Pros: Comfy bed , but need new pillows very uncomfortable.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Food was excellent and so to the atmosphere.
Cons: Shower a little small but for one night stay it really didn't matter.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Nice people, nice room, good location, far enough from bar that there was no noise. Fast and nice breakfast served by friendly staff.
Cons: Ceilng too low in bathroom - hit our heads on the beam - and we are short! Narrow stairs - ok for us, but not for seniors in general.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The best thing about the Cromwell is the staff! So friendly and welcoming, it honestly feels like staying with family and friends. The food is fantastic, we had the prawn and crayfish starter and then the salmon, some of the best seafood we have had. HIGHLY recommend staying at the Cromwell, we will be returning as soon as we can.
Cons: The rooms are simple, it’s not a dislike just that you’ll have more fun in the bar area
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The room was a good size, with plenty of chairs and hanging space. The hotel kindly accommodated our request for a double bed but the stairs up were very steep. Service in the evening was excellent and quick.
Cons: The bed could have been more comfortable and the pillows were uncomfortable and hard. The smoked salmon at breakfast was excellent but the scrambled egg, particularly on the first day (Friday) was rubbery.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Good sized family room and great location with really friendly staff!
