Pros: Excellent location based in the north beach area of San Francisco, with limited rooms which was quite quaint. Most comfortable beds during our vacation to California. Quite an old fashioned building with a lot of old fashioned decor, which didn’t mind so much. Great shower almost offered a mandatory massage every morning and evening lol. We were out everyday and were provided great local knowledge by staff who were very helpful during our stay, especially places to avoid and places to visit.

Pros: The location was excellent, right in the heart of Little Italy surrounded by excellent restaurants, Caffe Trieste and the best pizza in North America, Tony's Pizza Napolitana. This hotel offers a very cool setting. Rooms and bathrooms are not big but that was a non-issue for us. Look at the pictures of the rooms and you will see what I mean. The staff on hand was super friendly, helpful and always ready to go the extra mile for you. We can't wait for our next visit to the bay area...and La Boheme.

It has not been thoughtlessly modernized, and hasn't lost any charm to superficial business-travel frills - it is quirky and comfortable and authentic. From the nearly-hidden entrance, up winding flights of stairs, it's like stepping into another world. The afternoon sherry is a nice touch, the bed and pillows are comfortable, and the decorations are fun and relaxing. Also, maybe it's a small thing, but the water pressure in the shower is GREAT!

Cons: The room we were given (107) was pretty dingy and dark and had the constant noise from the kitchen fans outside the room and bathroom window (audible even when closed and at night) plus every time we entered the room we could smell the odour of kitchen cooking that evidently seeps or wafts in if windows are open. This despite us contacting well in advance for a quiet room and as high up as possible. Yes it was not road-side but switching traffic noise for ventilation noise on lowest floor isn’t any better. Were offered earplugs. For the price of the stay versus these issues, not as good as we were expecting and a little disappointing for our first stay in San Fran.

Pros: San Remo became my favourite ever hotel seconds after walking through the front door. Know what you’re getting before you book, because this is old-time charm at its finest. The rooms are tiny, the sinks are in the hallway, but the staff are incredible, the location is great, and the entire hotel has such an incredibly wonderful feel that it is the most memorable experience I’ve had. I mean, my entire room was covered in artwork more than a hundred years old! The staff were super helpful, and the neighbourhood felt safe enough to be comfortable walking around in the evening after dark. Oh, and the complimentary bathroom gowns are soft and cozy :-)

Cons: The room I selected said nothing about shared bathrooms and showers. I think $--- a night to stay at a hostel is pretty expensive. There was also a $50 holding fee that I wasn't told about when we checked in. Door opened outside our door made it freezing.

Cons: - There are two restaurants down the hotel and our room was located in the 1st floor which means that we couldn’t go to sleep until 11 pm at least (weekdays) as the noise of the restaurant’s kitchen is too loud. At least the hotel provides earplugs... - The hotel is charming but it is too old. - We were three and the room was very small, no space to put the luggage...

Cons: It is an old victorian with tiny rooms and narrow hallways, and without a lobby, so it can feel a bit cramped. And our room was not well-ventilated, being that it had a window to the hallway which we couldn't open without noise. But we were only there one night, so it didn't matter -- and most rooms have outside windows, so I would get one of those if you are there more than a night.

Pros: San Remo became my favourite ever hotel seconds after walking through the front door. Know what you’re getting before you book, because this is old-time charm at its finest. The rooms are tiny, the sinks are in the hallway, but the staff are incredible, the location is great, and the entire hotel has such an incredibly wonderful feel that it is the most memorable experience I’ve had. I mean, my entire room was covered in artwork more than a hundred years old! The staff were super helpful, and the neighbourhood felt safe enough to be comfortable walking around in the evening after dark. Oh, and the complimentary bathroom gowns are soft and cozy :-)
Cons: If you know that you’re getting an old-style European hotel experience, then there are zero complaints I can make about this hotel. If you expect any sort of modern North American comfort (beyond wifi and their excellent tea selection), then you will be extremely disappointed; this place is an antidote to every chain hotel you’ve stayed in.

Cons: The breakfast was basic and limited choice,served on cardboard plates and cups. We were surprised that they were using plastic cutlery and all the guests were encuraged to dispose of their waste, including plastic into compostable garbage bins.

Cons: The room was not big enough for the money, the bathroom was a tiny room with a toilet and shower over bath, the sink was in the bedroom which is terrible when sharing a room. The extractor fan was running constantly with no off switch. The staff member that checked us in mentioned that there were fees and taxes on top so I cleared that up as booking.com said it was all included. This was an ideal opportunity for them to mention that parking was not included. So I was charged $60 per night for that, which wasn’t budgeted for. I fully expect this is common practice. It felt bad value for money overall.

Cons: The staff barely spoke English. This is San Francisco and when we asked just a general question about Alcatraz the front desk clerk had no idea what nor where it was!! Also we checked in about 10 pm and needed additional towels, were told they would be brought up, and nothing ever came. Also the bathroom sink would not drain. Way overpriced for this type of hotel. This was not even better than something similar to a Holiday Inn. For the price we paid per night the expectation was for something more than what was delivered. The staff acted as though they were doing us a favor just to answer a question, if they could understand us at all. Hotel totally misrepresented!

Cons: It was a shame that our room was located right next to the renovation work being carried out in a few of the rooms. It meant we couldn’t get access to the lift from our floor and we were woken at 6.30 every morning as the Contractors arrived for work and unzipped and re-zipped the plastic partition screen several times for 20 minutes! However the new decor in the rooms is very nice - modern industrial styling.

Our room was the two queen size bed, and it had a generous amount of space. The bed was super comfortable and we had plenty of room to store luggages and bags. When walking around we found that we were really close to a couple of key attractions and hidden gems of San Francisco. The staff was super friendly and really helpful.

Pros: Was able to check in a couple hours early.
Cons: Stayed 1 night. Checked in. 7 hours later get a note in the door that the hot water will be shut off from 11pm-5am. why wasnt i told this at checkin? I wouldnt have stayed. Toilet was broken had to take off the back cover and stick my hand in tank to flush....

Pros: Staff went out of their way to be friendly and helpful. Room was clean and physically comfortable. Location is nice for sightseeing.
Cons: This was the loudest hotel room that I have ever stayed in. Pedestrian and vehicle traffic outside was so loud in the room that I felt like I was sleeping in the middle of an intersection. This noise lasted until 10-11 pm every night and started up again at 430 every morning. Every step by the people staying in the room above sounded like an elephant stomping around, and they stayed active until 2 am some nights.

Pros: The beds were absolutely fantastic!!! The rooms were comfortable. The young man at the registration desk, around 1 or 2 PM on 12/05/126, was very courteous, helpful, and went beyond just being nice. Our hats off to his customer relations skills. thank you to him because of him we would return. We needed more coffee and cups and they were delivered promptly and with a smile. Again Thanks!!

Cons: A lot of noise at night even though I was on the highest floor. Bathroom is very old and small. Someone stole my iPad while I was there so safety concerns.

Cons: Car parking is expensive. It appears I paid twice within the 24 hour period since I took the car out twice, and this came to over a hundred dollars for parking. Not happy with this as I thought parking fees were only charged once and were valid for 24 hours.

Pros: Great hotel. Really enjoyed it and would recommend it to anyone! Room was clean and well decorated. Staff were friendly! Excellent hotel for the price! Within walking distance to fishermans wharf and all the tourist attractions!

Pros: We have stayed at the Wharf Inn before and understand that it is a 'no frills' type of place. However, when we checked in, the keys didn't work so I had to go back to the desk twice. Also, we ran out of toilet paper! Surely this is an essential?! In addition, whilst there is a kettle in the room, the cups were never replenished.

Cons: didn’t like that they had high crime feats confirmed by asking a few other businesses in the area. when it got dark and we walked to the store there were homeless people sleeping on the hard ground. kinda hard to enjoy yourself when seeing others suffering without a warm bed to sleep on. staff ignored complaints of no hot water. staff lied to my face stating elevator signs of being out of order was actually annual maintenance and he had worked there 14 years; also stated elevator repair man would be able to turn elevator on as needed for my mom to get to ground level. first manager told me there were no other bosses she had access to tonight. i stated to her there i always an emergency contact for employees and an elderly women with health problems stuck on the third floor all day and being told unable to get her to ground level until the 8th a day after court check out date is an emergency. stating the obvious of having no way to get a handicap person of any age to ground level is not acceptable.

Cons: No coffee sachets in the room, just tea. The chap at the counter when we checked out said this was never provided, as coffee is available at the check in desk, but I wanted my coffee before I got dressed! It hasn't put me off going back, but next time I'll remember to take my own cup and coffee!

Cons: Reserved a king bed for and infant to sleep with my wife and I. They couldn’t give me a single king but upgraded to 2 queens. I asked for 2 Kings so we could still have room for the baby to sleep with us. She told me it would cost more for the upgrade to Kings even though I booked a king.
