The pickup was a pretty horrible experience. The person checked me in and I paid, which took about 20 minutes. Then they realized that they had checked me in as the wrong person. Then voiding this was difficult and the system did. Not want to check me in as it thought I had a car already. Had to wait for the manager. We were supposed to get a small car but we got a Chevy Silverado that smelled like cigarettes. In all, not great.Reviewed 4 May 2024

The car was filthy/dirty. The line was big to get the keys so I didn't want to go back and wait another 40mins to tell them to exchange the car. Bare minimum a rental car should be ran through a car wash and vacuumed before giving it to the next renter. Also, I rented a Passat like car and got a minivan which is away bigger than I needed and consumes more gas. Not a good experience.Reviewed 4 May 2024

Although we had pre booked a confirmed amount through Avis, when arriving at the car rental, we when them told actually the price was 30% more due to dropping off the car at a different location (even though that was confirmed in our booking) with no room for negotiation, and no other option but to have to pay the extra as we were otherwise stranded in a foreign country with no transport. Felt tricked or mislead, and unfortunately won't use Avis again due to thisReviewed 4 May 2024

The car had dents outside, which is acceptable on an island. Inside it was terrible, looked like a 5+ year old car which was never cleaned ever. The car squealed downhill (50% of roads on Tortola). After a quick check we learned that all for brakepads where gone. Front brake discs where weavy. Rear discs corroded. Overall, minimal and unreliable brakes in a 7 seater on a hilly island. Kayak is showing the incorrect pickup location. So when we booked we have kayak emails confirming one pickup location but then received emails from Avis showing a different location. It ended up being about a 45 minute difference. Avis advised the location on Kayak is no longer open. Also, we received a call 2 days before from Avis confirming if we needed the rental, but then advising they may not have the car available. Because we were traveling with 3 small children we needed that specific car. They offered to give us 2 cars for the same price which was not the right solution for us. This caused tons of unnecessary stress. Although, they made it right in the end and we got the car we reserved, they really didn’t need to communicate that they may not have the car until they really didn’t have the car.Reviewed 1 May 2024
