Woke up at 5am to have a full day travelling around Mexico only to get to the location and they say there are no cars. Thrifty blame the booking site for not speaking with them before confirming. Very very poor!

They cheat you by manipulating the exchange rate! When my credit card company billed me (at the accurate exchange rate), it showed a bill about $60 higher than what they quoted. They set up your rate in USD, then tell you that’s how much you’re paying. Then they convert to pesos at a much higher USD value per peso which leads to a higher number of pesos, and then when your credit card company charges you at the accurate daily rate, your USD charge is much higher. It’s so shady, and they know they’re doing it. My vehicle was also dirty and had a right turn signal that didn’t work the whole trip.

I had reserved a mid-size SUV to travel with my 5 member family and 5 suitcases. When I arrived at the airport, I was told that no car was available but there would be a small car available in 10 minutes, and a larger car the following day. It took an hour to get the first tiny car, and the following day after 2 trips back to the airport I was given a Mazda hatchback. No other cars were available. We spent the week driving around the Yucatán with bags on our laps. I had already paid the full price and was never offered a refund or price reduction. I wouldn’t recommend renting from this company unless you don’t care what car you get.

They did not have a car for us and it was a different company called American car rentals ( there is no such thing as economy rent a car . We were stuck at the airport , no car and no one to help .

I would not ever using this company again, as someone who goes to Merida often this company is trying to take advantage of travelers and skirt the law and charge extra fees and unnecessary insurance. Buyer beware if you book through any site (Expedia, booking.com, Hotwire and any other) they (rental company) will tell you the third party bookings are not honored for the price you booked for, and they will try to charge additional insurance not needed as the only needed insurance is the liability and the rest is covered by most US credit cards and insurance, and they will ignore the contract and try to charge off contract prices for extra days. They lie to your face and their customer service line nor the booking company you used will do anything to help. We spent two hours on the phone and 3 hours at the rental car place! We were charged an addition $90 on our reservation they said were fees the booking platform charges them.....never again will I use this site as I was also told by three rental car companies in Merida that booking through these third party sites even when paying in advance does not guarantee you an honored reservation or a car at the price you paid. It’s robbery, thank goodness we have family in the area that know the laws and fought on our behalf. There are car rental companies out of fiesta Americana that will not give you all the hassle and extra fees. Also again we were told by multiple car rental companies that the car reservation we booked and paid for was not available and the reservation meant nothing since we did not book directly on their car rental site. Europcar and American car rentals out of Merida are both scam companies ripping people off!

Screwed on the insurance and price. End price was 1200USD. Would not accept credit card CDW, letter from Visa verifying, or proof of available credit ( $ 20000 ). Rent privately from Tony.

There was nobody at the airport terminal, had to walk to the car return office. Insurance was insane expensive; twice the price than an international car rental brand.

Didn't take us to the rental office because they were short staff but told us the day before we would get a shuttle. It says airport rental but you must go somewhere outside the airport to rent it. No insurance explanation on webist, the rental price for two days was 240 plus when we got there we paid $200 extra por insurance plus a deposite 220$. All for 2 days. Wrong directions was given to pick up.

Arrived at airport and was shuttled to MexCar. Car was ready and fueled. Used for a week and put about 1200 miles on odometer. Returned and was shuttled back to airport with no issues. Great experience.

Reserved and paid for a rental car via kayak, and my flight to Cancun got delayed for 9 hours. I notified the rental car company several hours in advance of the delay, and they refused to hold my reservation for me, and refused to guarantee a car for me for the following day. They couldn’t help me at all. Our flight finally arrived at like 2am and we had to take a $78 taxi to our Airbnb 20-minutes away. The next day, we thankfully found another car from another rental car company but ended up having to pay quadruple the price that we originally paid for our original car rental. Was really a poor experience.

The company “ACE rental” apparently does not exist. There was no sign for the company and no office. I got swindled to go with another company that claimed to be working with this company. They did not honor the price I was quoted and I ended up paying more than I had budgeted for. I will not use your service again.

Pros:

Nothing. Couldn’t pick up the car since our flight was delayed a few hours and they cancelled the reservation and we were left without a car. I did call and they said that 1 hour after the reservation time passed we’d be subject to availability... and furthermore their website said they close at 11:30 pm and they actually close at 10!!

Cons:

Better customer service, information to the customer. Would not recommend them.

They didn't help me install the two car seats I had reserved. Check-in took way too long (almost 30min without a line). Drop-off took even longer. I had to run to make sure my flight didn't leave me.

HERZ Goldmember nr.62347703 R.J.L. van Vliet The requisted car was not avalable and the only replacement they were willing to give me without extra paying was an open pick-up with no projection cover for the laugage. I rejected, and there was no other chose given to pay an extra addition fee for the only upgrade car available. I had no choice otherwise I had no car and was stranded with my family (wife + 3 children). I will make an official complaint about the hole situation.

They did not have a car ready for me. And told me I was 8th on the waiting list. They said they would call me but did not. They gave me a number for head office. This caused me huge disruption to my holiday. This is the first time Hertz has ever let me down. Not even an apology.

Everything went smoothly. Pick up and drop off was efficient and quick.

Cons:

Upon car pickup I was hit with insurance. i tried to explain that I had coverage through my credit card and taking their insurance could nullify my existing coverage but they would not rent the car without buying theirs. It tripled the quoted cost. Thankfully, all went smooth and the issue was not tested.

Clowns. Try to force you to buy unnecessary insurance. Never had a problem renting cars in Mexico until I went there. Read similar reviews but thought I would try anyway. Wrong choice walked out went next door got the same car without any extra insurance (they tried to charge twice the cost of the rental) Don’t make the same mistake. Go with a different company.

As far as I could tell, "NU Car" rentals is simply a booking service for "America Car Rentals". There is no signage for NU Car at the Merida airport -- it was only by asking random airport staff that I finally connected with a shuttle driver from America Car Rentals that took me to their off-site office where America Car Rentals processed my contract. Despite the initial hassle, the shuttle staff was very courteous. My low rating for the check-in process is associated with the pricing gimmick that America Car Rentals uses. They list very low daily rental rates on Kayak, but once you're in the office, they require that you either: a) accept an $8,000 hold on your credit card for potential damages, or b) purchase their collision insurance and accept a lesser (~$3,000) hold on your credit card. With the latter option, the cost of the insurance brings the total cost of the rental to the same cost quoted by the larger companies (Hertz, Alamo, etc.) Learning this while already at their rental office was very frustrating, and it could likely be prohibitive for many travelers. In the end, the car we received was adequate, but the contract details definitely soured our arrival in Merida.

This is a scam. There was no store front for "NU rental cars" at the stated address. I did not get to pick up any car and had to do a last minute reservation with a different car rental down the street that looked legitimate. I did not feel safe...

Flight was delayed. I called firefly to reschedule pickup next day. Office confirmed no problems. Absolute lies - I arrived to the office and they informed they had no cars according to policy, mine had been given to another customer. Why not inform me the reservation is cancelled instead of telling me to come in?
