At least 50% of the plane had their bags left behi
Pros: It was the cheapest available... but not worth the savings.
Cons: They have an extremely rigid carry-on policy. Only 8kg or 17lbs permitted. Backpack or other small bag as a personal item not permitted (see their website). We were fortunate to have noticed ahead of time and reduced our hand baggage. Others less fortunate than us had to root through their luggage at the airport to decide what to leave behind. Many had to toss things in the garbage since they couldn't take them. Despite restrictions, for unknown reasons overhead bins were full when we boarded (we were among the last) and our bigger carry-ons had to go under as checked bags. Fortunately we were able to remove our iPads and iPhones bought for friends from those carry-ons. If not they might have disappeared like happened to my brother earlier this year when he flew Tame (A laptop was stolen from his carry-on that was checked in at the Gate). They had a huge backlog of luggage left behind from previous flights and they left around 50% of the passenger's luggage behind. All 8 of our bags (family of 4) were left behind. The majority of the bags on unloaded from the plane were from 2-4 days earlier. There were a lot of irate passengers in Guayaquil as a result. With so many people putting in lost baggage claims, we had to wait for 3 hours in the airport to get out. I have flown US to Ecuador every year for 20 years and have never had an experience this bad. Worse yet, at least half the plane went through this experience, and it looks like the luggage backlog has affected both past flights and will affect future ones.
