9.0 Excellent
Pros: Staff were super helpful although some of them can't speak fluent English. It was great they allowed us to leave some of our luggages here since we were heading to Takayama before checking in at the hotel two days later. By the time we checked in, the luggages were already inside our room. Wonderful gesture. The room was clean though not spacious. Complete room amenities with small fridge. The superb view from the hotel lobby/dining area as it is located in the 10th floor. On a clear day, you can see the mountains surrounding Matsumoto city. They even provide complimentary coffee/tea at the dining area till 10pm. We opted to have buffet breakfast there and paid 1000yen/person. Delicious local and western food. No regrets. The hotel location is superb. Just about 3-5mins walk from JR train station and Matsumoto Bus Terminal is just next door. Plenty of eating areas around the hotel area. It is also located within walking distance to Matsumoto castle and museums.
Cons: Room is a bit tight especially those travelling with big luggages but it is understandable for Japan standard.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: We had booked a double room but due a ski injury I asked for more room and change to a large twin the staff did this for us at no cost. The staff, the beds, the shower and location was great for our stay in Matsumoto.
Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I like everything of hostel. If come here. I'll book again sure
7.9 Good
Pros: It was right outside the station so was just what we needed. Look up as the hotel is almost above a shopping complex. Lots of things for breakfast, but lots of meat and being vegetarian it wasn’t amazing.
Cons: It was slightly outdated.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The view from the window in the breakfast area
Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Honestly no complaints. It’s basically across from the train station and we were only staying one night as a stop over so it was perfect. Beautiful view of the mountains and you can’t beat the price for what you get!

Pros: Great location close to the station. View of mountains from room. Good breakfast. Late checkout arranged for a small fee. Highly recommended
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The rooftop onsen was tranquil and perfect and the staff were very helpful! It was a short walk from the train station and walking distance from the major sights such as Matsumoto castle. Clean and nice facilities!
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The best part was the onsen. One of the best we've used. Well above it's price point. Breakfast was fine; very local cuisine and presentation. Not pretentious. Great city to explore too.
Cons: The room was a bit small and tired but it's not expensive so I guess it's fine. We'd stay in this hotel again but would book a bigger room.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The free laundry was a surprise!
6.7 Good
Pros: The location was great. The breakfast was above my expectation. Onset on property was nice
Cons: Old and dated. In a seedier part of town. Based on reviews expected a much nicer place. Does not deserve the “superb” rating it had received.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Felt luxurious and well looked after by staff. Free shuttle bus from/to station, bike rental service and nice bar up top. Good value compared to some other places I stayed in Japan.
Cons: Not much - couldn’t find the light switch to turn off my lights!
8.0 Excellent
Pros: We did not go to the breakfast buffet. We had a pastry and coffee in the lounge which was fine.
Cons: Room cramped due to settee and desk that were too big for the space
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Own parking garage for the rental car. On walking distance of Matsumoto Castle and city centre
Cons: Moderate/poor breakfast quality (most of ‘hot buffet’ is cold and coffee is very poor quality)

Cons: location is nice area but a bit long walk from train station.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Close to train station and restaurants
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Very good location in the centre of the city. Nice staff, good breakfast
Cons: .
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Excellent location midway between Matsumoto Station and the Castle. The room was larger than is usual in Japan and very well appointed. There were also a number of small additional touches, such as bath salts and slippers we could keep, that were very nice. Staff were very courteous and pleasant to deal with.
Cons: Nothing we didn’t like about the property.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The room is comfortable and quite
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Very efficient operational system: Check in with friendly staff, pay with vending machine in advance (avoiding having to wait in line to check out and pay later.) Room is sizable for Japan. Clean and newly decorated. Basic, but has everything you need. Excellent location. Within a 5 min walk to train station. Very close to supermarket. Best point: Has 24/7 diner right at the ground level. Food is not gourmet but not bad (like Denny's). Plus, it's very reasonably priced. (I paid $70 US a night in April.) This hotel is the best hidden gem in Matsumoto. I actually prefer it way more than Buena Vista, which is supposed to be the most "luxurious" business hotel in town.
Cons: No gym, but neither does Buena Vista.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Easy to find from the train station. Includes breakfast. Clean and comfortable. Would definitely stay there again.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Clean. Clean. Clean. Friendly staff who spoke enough English to effectively deal with non-Niponggo speakers. Breakast was good with lots of variety. There's a 7-11 store a block away and a really good ramen and gyoza place across the street.
Cons: Nothing.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Comfortable rooms with plenty of space for 2 with luggage. The views of the snowy mountain peaks from our window was a real bonus. There were a lot of little extras in the room too. We thought the location was perfect - in the main city centre about 5 mins walk from the station and about 15 mins pleasant walk from the castle. We did not try any of the food offerings so cant comment.
Cons: Lack of an opening window but that is a minor quibble.

Cons: You can hear noises from the other rooms!
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Very good location which opposite bus station and shopping building. Walking distance to Matsumoto castle, Iwate street, Parco department store and some restaurants.
Cons: As outside the building was cold weather, but it was quite high temperature / hot inside the room. That was why I could not sleep well.

Overview Reviews
With a stay at Hotel M Matsumoto in Matsumoto, you'll be within a 10-minute drive of Matsumoto City Museum and Matsumoto Castle. Featured amenities include a 24-hour front desk, luggage storage, and laundry facilities.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: 1. The room is cozy and clean, it's big enough for 2 adults. 2. Breakfast is various and delicious. 3. The staffs are very nice and kind.
Cons: 1. When you arrive at Matsumoto Station, reach East Exit and walk out, and you spend only 5 minutes getting the hotel, do not trust the map they offered. (XD)
8.0 Excellent
Pros: I wanted to experience a "capsule hotel" on our trip to Japan, so my companion agreed to try it for a night. Brightly lit, excellent location about a 5-minute walk from the train station. Google initially directed us to the rear entrance, which you can use to access the elevator at any time. You can also reach the elevator through the bookstore when it is open, but the rear entrance is the only way from 8pm onwards. We stayed in the Ladies' area, which was secured with a proximity key on a wristband - our capsules were just off the main hallway, near both the bathroom and the smoking room, which initially worried me but ended up not being an issue. The mattress is thin but the "capsule" is not claustrophobic, lockers next to the capsules can hold anything of value and cubbies are also available to store suitcases (or they can be held behind the desk). Pajamas were included, as were a dizzying array of hair and face products in the Ladies' bathroom, as well as toothbrushes, razors, cotton swabs, hair bands... The "deluxe" Ladies capsules had a small "room" area shielded by a curtain and with a small desk, so you have a private place to change and sit. There is a larger Mens' capsule area and a certain number of private rooms (also with shared facilities). Tea is available in the lobby all the time, and there are vending machines and tables available for eating or hanging out (as well as a large selection of Manga). Matsumoto Castle is quite beautiful and worth seeing, and there are some cute coffee shops and a brewery. Everything is within easy walking distance.
Cons: More bathroom shoes should be provided in the Ladies' bathroom area - with 3 toilets, 3 showers, and 4 sinks/vanities/ there should be at least 10 pairs of bath shoes available.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Clean, efficient, standard capsule hotel. Not right in the center of town but not too far, and close to the train station.
Cons: More expensive than any other capsule hotel or hostel I've seen in Japan
5.0 Okay
Pros: Proximity to station.
Cons: Uncomfortable bed. Not very clean.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Hotel is very clean...Nice staff and feee drink at longue is awesome
4.0 Okay
Pros: Location is good.
Cons: Onsen that are advertised are only for man. Buffett breakfast is not available because of corona. Staff couldn't tell me what kind of breakfast they offer instead. Room was very hot. Staff told me that they cannot do sth about it. Not that clean. To less facilities for the girls. A/C is very noisy... All in all very disappointing!

8.0 Excellent
Pros: The location is very central and the staff were friendly.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Even in the big cities like Kyoto or Tokyo, we never had coffee; it was very nice to have the choice of good coffee and tea at this hotel. Despite a corridor that needs refreshing, the room was elegant and agreeable. We heard the train in the distance - I am usually very sensitive to this kind of noise but it was not a problem there to sleep without earplugs. The staff was nice, their English not that great but it was not a problem to communicate the essential.
Cons: If I remember correctly, there is no onsen bath here.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The onsen was great! Very clean and good way to warm up after day of sightseeing in winter. The location was very convenient to railway, and city centre. Easy to walk to all places of interest. Japanese breakfast was good value and quality.
Cons: Not enough tea available for 2 people. If you wanted 2nd cup, had to have the other selection of what was offered. Also no sugar. Noise of other guests comes through the closed door. Room was a little small.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Good breakfast, very friendly staff. Good Onsen.
Cons: Smallish room, but good small bathroom.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Hotel New Station is a clean and friendly hotel an easy walk from the train station. Big room allowed well for our family of four. Plus there was a nice view of the mountains.
Cons: Slight smell of smoking in the room.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel receptionist was able to speak English and he was friendly. Hotel room may be small but it’s good enough for a solo traveler and it’s affordable.

9.0 Excellent
Pros: Spacious bathroom
Cons: Hard bed
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Staff very police, clean hotel, great location, and value for money! I was put into the fifth floor, in a quiet spot of the hotel. I will stay again!
Cons: Everything was very good. But the soundproofing was a bit poor. I could hear the next room's tv at normal level. Hence if you are a light sleeper and have a noisy neighbour, you are in bad luck. However, mine was quiet usually after 11.30 so it was fine.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Staff is really helpful and breakfast is good
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Plus the hotel offers bike rentals which is a great way to explore the city.
Cons: It was a little bit outdated, but still comfortable and clean.

8.8 Excellent
Pros: Like the Yayoi Kusama art works at the hotel lobby and lift entrance. The hotel staff were also very nice and friendly.
9.6 Excellent
Cons: Smokers floor has too strong smell of cigarette smoke, the room was clean but it had an old smoking smell as well, I thing air conditioning on that floor should be improved and the walls and furniture should be vapour cleaned. I've been spent a time in smokers rooms of other hotels and there weren't such a problem.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: gosh, that bath was awesome
Cons: They probably haven't vacuum cleaned under the bed since 1950 and the sandals lying there are most likely the relict of the adventures of a WW2 veteran in the prime of his youth.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Very nice and efficient staff, quick and easy check-in/check-out. Onsen with massage chair ( at woman’s onsen) was a plus. We particularly enjoyed the comfortable bed and the rental bikes (with gears and large basket on the front) !!! THANK YOU !!!!!!
Cons: Everything was fine but light sleepers may need to bring earplugs as the walls are not thick.
6.0 Good
Pros: Bicycles are free for guests.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly staff and good amenities. The location is also good, midway between the train station and the castle.

Pros: Authentic
9.0 Excellent
Pros: My room was very cozy and comfortable. I also liked that there is a hot bath at the hotel as well. They also have bikes that you can rent to stroll around the city!
Cons: My only complaint was that it was a little bit out of the way from the main part of Matsumoto.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Staff was very friendly and helpfull. This was the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in, amazing! Lovely ryokan, cute kimono. The onsen was also a nice extra touch. Loved it!
Cons: Walls are thin, there was a noisy family of 4 in the room next to me and I could hear everything very clear.
2.0 Mediocre
Cons: Bedbugs/punaises de lit/とこじらみ。We had to leave the ryokan in the middle of the first night and find another place to sleep. The people apologised in a correct manner. But I still have nightmares and pray not bringing any at home.
7.0 Good
Pros: This ryokan was low cost, and the room was basic but clean. Our building had shower rooms, and in the annex building was a traditional Japanese bath. The ryokan has many stairs, steps and small corridors :-). The staff was friendly and helpful, and we could use the bicycles to go downtown and to the Matsumoto castle. The ryokan is about a 20 minute walk from the station, and is located in a quiet neighbourhood close to a river.
Cons: No complaints for this price.

Pros: I really enjoyed the room, the bed was perfect for me. The breakfast, both Japanese and Western were really good. The location of the hotel is really good, close to the station, and very close to the castle.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Blooth speaker was nice
Cons: View was no good Cheap room is no view Careful, if you hope good view
2.0 Mediocre
Pros: Tatami room was great with an authentic Japanese feel. Location was perfect close to the castle and the central tourist area.
Cons: Overcharged. Quoted price on booking.com included VAT however they added this an an extra 10% to the quoted room cost. Quoted car parking price was also to be 800Y , they charged 880Y then added 10% to that. We have been travelling for 3 weeks in Japan and these guys are the most deceitful we have encountered. Breakfast was also sub par. Coronavirus is active now and buffets are being cancelled which is understandable but the set menu should be to a suitable standard. This has been the worst we have encountered.
7.1 Good
Pros: Location is nice and staffs were friendly. Have Onsen in the hotel.
Cons: The room is very old and need renovation.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Very comfy beds, great location , nice onsen and coffee shop.
Cons: They said they had been renovated but apart from the outside and lobby the rooms hadn’t and the bathrooms were old as was the onsen.

Pros: The service is excellent and out of my expectations.
Cons: We odered 2 days breakfast for a 2 day stay. We hope the main dishes are served with hot because it's kind of cold.

Or a 10-15min walk from the JR Station. Fantastic breakfast, buffet style with heaps of options. Very easy to get an extra bed for my son and at no charge. Free high quality bikes that almost fit taller folks too. Nice professional staff. No issues at all.
Cons: room are pretty small - but this is common for Japan.

6.5 Good
Pros: Very convenient to station and castle. Staff helpful
Cons: Breakfast was extra and not worth paying for. Hotel was overdue for a makeover. Room tiny and did not feel comfortable.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Super friendly staff. Warm, comfortable rooms (if you would have more language I presume it might feel a bit small though). Welcome warm towel & bottle of water. Short walk to the city centre, as well as other interesting places (Matsumoto castle, Nakamachi street, several shrines etc). Restaurants, cafes and the rest (7eleven just around the corner) are also super close by!
