Hard to find, but easy once you doVery nice shuttle driver. Easy drop off. In and out!When you use the GPS address in Google...it takes you to an industrial part of the airport. Get that fixed because it was frustrating.

Avis and Ireland: don’t do it!Car itself was fine but given a lesser car than originally booked and for more money.Beware! Counter staff at Avis Ireland seem to work on commission. Our person would not look up our reservation by the reservation #, we were then told the only automoatic available was a lesser car than we had reserved, for more money! Talked to a 2nd person and told it was high season and that was the rate + lots of add ons. If you want to use the insurance provided by your credit card (we have amex platinum - great coverage) they would put a hold on our account for $5000 euros OR we could pay 48 euros per day for their insurance!!!! Complete scam. Opted to have the hold put on our credit card. Other car companies may do this as well in Ireland. Added a huge amount of stress to an otherwise wonderful trip. Advice: do your homework ahead of time with lots of research on car company policies there.

Easy, Clean, PoliteThe staff at Shannon Airport was super polite and informative. They even threw in a free GPS because they didn’t have the automatic transmission we reserved as we arrived early.The insurance is very pricey - although it’s a must have because the roads in Ireland are pretty treacherous to say the least.

Way too expensiveThe car got good gas milage.The headlights did not work and caused us to almost get in an accident while driving. It was very scary driving on the winding roads of Ireland with no headlights! The car was also way too expensive for the type of car I rented. Disappointed. Also when we returned the car, it took 20 minutes for the counter to close out my account. The guy next to us was able to close out 4 other customers in the time it took the guy helping me to close me out. Frustrating.

Price quoted not same at time of pick up! Very confused reps at counter! I had a quote with CDW insurance yet they said I did not and then tried to almost triple my quote to add coverage!! VERY DISSAPOINTING! While waiting in line a woman told me that she was charged double her quoted rate! Long lines to rent car and I guess that would be why since others were having rate issues as well! Car uncomfortable and under powered!!! Especially, for Irish roads!! Car exterior was dirty. Upon return no agent at counter, had to wait 10-15 mins once he returned computers were down so he could not give us a receipt of charges and to date still have no breakdown receipt of charges.

Quick drop and great airport in shannon!It was quick and easy- literally 10 mins from pulling up to being on our shuttle to the airport!It's hard to let the experience at the counter in Dublin out of my mind. I hate when I feel taken advantaged of- and that is what Avis did!

The GPS option was critical. It made navigating a snap. Irelands roads are at times very challenging and the voice navigation was easy so you could concentrate on driving.

We rented a car that Thrifty said online was the proper size for 5 people with 5 large bags. On arrival at Shannon, they said the car we reserved was too small and we had to upgrade to a larger vehicle and pay almost twice as much. They are scam artists.

A Dacia Duster is NOT Similar to a Hyundai TucsonEventually was given an Nissan Qashqai which was a good car and served me well.I pre-booked a Hyundai Tucson SUV or similar and was offer a Dacia Duster. That is like saying a skateboard and a car are similar as they both have wheels. Was not happy to take this and the Thrifty agent conceded that I was not going to budge on this.

Even though they were not located at the airport, there was a shuttle that picked me up within minutes, supplied me with an upgrade at a cost much lower than other companies. The return process was also seamless, no lines, quick processing and dropped off at the airport within minutes.

We were told at pick up that cars could be left at the hotel at the airport. But when I spoke to the team the day before drop off they said this was not possible and that we would need to bring the car to the rental office location. They also said they would be open at 6. However on the day the first employee showed up at 610. To be fair to him he brought us straight to the airport in the vehicle so we did not have to transfer luggage across and he was very pleasant and helpful when he arrived.

Flight was cancelled by United and car cannot be held or paid for over the phone. Car rental said contact Kayak and Kayak said contact car rental. Easirent finally fixed it so we had a car for our month long visit. Would’ve been disastrous otherwise. Thanks Paddy and James!!

My reservation (through Kayak) did not have the vender phone number printed so upon arrival to Shannon airport I couldn’t contact them for pickup, wasted a taxi fee to get to off site location. Is that Kayak or Easirent? The car was great, with navigation system, which was of value throughout trip. Return of car & shuttle to airport was trouble free.

We had a smooth, perfect rental experience. Airport pickup and obtaining the car was quick and easy. We ended up with a free upgrade. Upon return, Patrick even shuttled us to the covid testing site, waited, then delivered us to the airport. I would highly recommend!

We did not have a good experience with Sixt. We had just come from Scotland where we rented with Arnold Clark and the contrast was notable to say the least. I feel badly for the guys that work at sixt - they were forced to deal with angry customers constantly for all of the hidden charges and fees that the company requires. Sixt charges a lower rate up front but when you get there, they need a written letter from your credit card company that your credit card covers car insurance in Ireland - what?! Why was that not something they told me 6 months prior when I booked the rental. So then we sat there on the phone with capital one for 20 min; only to find out that we were not covered so therefore required to buy their insurance. Then we were not allowed to switch the driver to my fiancé (I booked the car but he was going to drive) without adding him and paying an additional 25 euro a day. So we ended up essentially paying $200 in insurance and adding a driver which really seemed unnecessary. Overall it felt like such a dishonest experience. Lots of fine print and hidden fees that made it more expensive and more frustrating than just paying up front more and having a smooth experience. If you’re going to go with sixt- do your homework ahead. Make sure the driver is the one booking the car, that your credit card has insurance for the country, and have a written letter from them resdy to go. And be ready to be frustrated. Apologies to the kind man that helped us - it wasn’t his fault the company has terrible policies he has to enforce.

The only issue I had was that there was no mention of Third party insurance, the options or the cost of it until I was picking up the car in Shannon. I was a little blind sided by the amounts quoted at the counter. This should be part of the booking process. Also with returning the car, we should have been given better instructions on where to leave it. I assumed to leave it at the Sixt return location, as done in all other car rental returns, but when there, they told me to leave it in temporary parking lot. not a big deal, but took extra time. All else was great !!

I prepaid this rental - a mistake as I could not change the booking without paying an exorbitant fee. The car displayed messages that an oil change was due. I eventually handed back the car as a warning light was illuminated continuously. I handed the car back last Thursday (8/25). I am still waiting (8/30) for a final invoice.

STAY AWAY!!The absolute worst customer service. I would spent the money renting with another rental car company. They were cheaper at the beginning, but at the end they charged me €165 for a 1” “scratch” on the wheel. I was not the only one. At the time of return 3 other customers were complaining about getting charged for bogus “Damage” that comes from normal wear and tear of driving through Ireland roads. Some were getting charged up to €350. When asked to speak with a manager about the issue, I was denied and told that the “customer service representative” could help me. Obviously they did nothing. This place will try to scam you out of every last dollar! Since they are part of the Hertz name and all employees at Shannon airport worked under Hertz, do yourself a favor and stay away from Hertz and their underling names of Thrifty and Dollar.

Hidden costsI liked the Jetta for size, handling, comfort as I drive VW/Audi cars at home. The drop off and pickup was at Shannon Airport which was very easy and quick. Sales agent was friendly and expeditious.The Dollar/Thrifty rental was connected with Hertz - which I did not know at the time and will not rent from Hertz due to a bad experience previously. Once at the counter, I found some "hidden" costs and an"upgrade" charge for an automatic that cost significantly more than a base rental for a standard and that were not listed on the rental information I had secured in advance - more than doubling the price. Buyer needs to beware about what the exact costs you are paying for since a good price that I found in advance became costly once at the rental counter and should have meant that I looked elsewhere. Since it was so early and after a long flight, I did not pursue other options in the airport.

Service at Shannon airport was excellent. It wasn't clear to us were renting a car without A/C, a useful feature for the heatwave we encountered. Mr. Cooney was as helpful as they come.

Our flight was scheduled to arrive at 10:30 pm but delayed over an hour. We called to notify Payless and asked about picking it up the next morning and we were told the car wouldn't be available and we'd have to rebook. We were told that the counter would be open until midnight and there was nothing else they could do.at that time. We did arrive around 11:45 p.m. and the agent was there and pleasant but informed us that no one notified her and she was only there because she was notified that another customer would be late.-otherwise she would have left early The counter agent was very pleasant and helpful. The first person I spoke to with Payless was rude and unwilling to help or offer alternatives-he was unprofessional and had a terrible attitude. He seemed like he didn't care about our concerns and he wasn't going to even attempt to work with us. I was willing to pay the full amount, even if we picked up a day later but the only option he offered was to cancel and rebook . His supervisor was a little better but said we could go online to modify it or to call back in 3 hrs-which would put us in flight and after the customer service number was available. The customer service representative also failed to notify the rental center of our delay even though we provided the information. Luckily it worked out but it is unlikely that I will ever book through Payless again. The car and value were great but not worth the stress of worrying that we'd arrive and not have a car.The customer service representatives who answer the phone need to be trained to be more professional and to treat customers with respect rather than treat us like we were a nuisance that he couldn't bother with. I wish I had his name to file an specific complaint.

Good gas mileage, easy to park and maneuver due to size.Being up front regarding the cost of insurance, which adds, at minimum, an additional $1000. Also, being scolded for arriving late to pick up was unacceptable.

We specifically stated that we required no insurance (we have our own) & were not asked or informed about any of the other services/charges that were added. When we inquired about these charges at drop-off we were told it was too late to protest or receive a refund. Absolute rip-off.

Added costsThe car itself was decent. Very basic, no special features like power anything or Bluetooth but it was decent on gas and fairly comfortable. The gentleman that returned my car was ex excellent and very helpful making sure I made my flight on time after checking my car back in.When I reserved the car I added the coverage and was given one price with no information about a deductible or additional cost. When I picked it up I was charged twice the reservation price because they said I needed to pay the deductible of $1500 or select the more expensive insurance coverage. Costs aren't very clear when reserving and I specifically looked for the information about insurance before I made the reservation. Took a big chunk of my vacation money I hadn't planned on over what I set aside for the rental

Car was as generally clean as expected. Otherwise, my experience was bad.Did not have the 5 dr hatchback I reserved or "similar" and charged upgrade for a larger hatchback to avoid downgrade. I was essentially ignored at pick-up and had to call-out to get attention. Attendant then pointed out my car and said "keys are in it". GPS did not work.

Clarifying car sizeThe agent in Dublin was excellent, Ivan, I think.we rented the car through carrentals.com. it was supposed to be large 7 passenger with 4 suitcases. unfortunately we had to fly into Dublin instead of Shannon. We could not get a clear understanding from Europcar whether you rented this size car in Ireland. 2 agents said no, one agent said yes. The two that said no, indicated the broker was mistaken and should not have offered the size we booked. This seems strange since Im sure we are not the first to rent a large Europcar in Ireland through your representative, carentals.com

Failure to CommunicateI'm 77. Europcar (Ireland) won't rent a car without a letter from a doc if you're over 75. Fine (maybe). But there was NO warning about that -- so they turned me down and I got no car for my vacation. This is just horrible!

Initial Customer service excellent.The guy I met initially at desk who dealt with me, he very nice, so helpful, gave me a good deal, very pleasant to deal with, it was more straightforward than I thought it woud be. he also went with me to car to get me started. Brilliant. At time of breakdown those I dealt with professional and helpful, AA guy, Customer service breakdown at Europcar, guy towing car, garage holding replacement car.A New car I got broke down, issue with clutch, had problems with changing gears, I ended up having to park up on hard shoulder on a very busy motorway near to Nenagh, so dangerous, I could have been killed, , very shaken, got so lucky, I was able to park safely. This car should have been checked to ensure it was ok to be driven. Ended up not being able to restart car, had to call for help, This took a bit of time, affected time I had in Dublin. The new car I then got in Nenagh was grand but the radio was so bad, most of time only got one station, made drive very long. Follow up customer service experience when highlighting my dissatisfaction both on phone and eventually face to face after dropping car back not great but hopefully when it's hightlighted to Manger it will have a more positive outcome.

AdviceCar was excellent - new Audi.I was 2 hours late returning the car and they tried to bill me $70 for another day! Highway robbery! Guy said that there was nothing he could do. It was hardwired into their computer. I called their main office and got the charge removed...on the spot. Also was told that I had to buy insurance - not sure if this was true.

Problem after problemWe weren't told about the insurance required until we arrived and didn't get insurance notification from my credit card in advance so our original payment options had to change very quickly. We had a boulder from a tunnel fall onto our car and they were of little help and wanted us to drive an unsafe car. When they replaced the car they didn't fill out paperwork with us or go over the car, and we had problems with the new car. Would not recommend them to anyone.

Insurance gotchaCar and service were good.Requirement to have a physical letter from credit card company stating that Ireland was not exempt from standard insurance coverage was not disclosed in advance. Having that thrown at me at 7am local/2am Eastern time upon arrival was extremely aggravating. I realize I could have been more diligent in mutt research upfront, but this should have been clearly disclosed at time of reservation. Was left with option of buying supplementary insurance through Eurocar or trying to connect with credit card company and get them to fax letter too rental car desk. Extremely pissed off and exhausted I bit the bullet and bought the insurance through Eurocar, which effectively doubled the cost of the rental. That's a poor way to do business and I will not rent from Eurocar going forward.

Highway Robbery - Entrapment!Nice vehicle, staff were very politeInitially I was delighted when booking the car when I received an email stating the estimated cost of the rental would be about $150. This was the best deal that I had seen in years so I went ahead and booked my car months ahead of my arrival. Upon landing at the car pick-up office I was informed that fully comprehensive insurance would cost €40 per day. This put the rental on the vehicle at around $600 for the 9 day trip. What was I supposed to do when stuck without internet or phone access at 6:30am on the morning of arrival but only accept. I informed one of the Europe car staff that I have never payed this much for a vehicle in my whole and was promptly informed that insurance prices have gone up recently. I informed the staff member that I visit home/Ireland at least twice a year and that I have never paid so much for a vehicle (I was actually in Ireland just 6 weeks earlier) The main reason of my discontent is that the overall cost was withheld when booking and did not become apparent until I arrived at the vehicle rental office. I never would have used this company at that cost I was changed and this was quite literally a case of rip-off Ireland. The rest of my trip was good but the initial experience with getting hosed with the overall cost of the car was terrible I can imagine what first-time visitor to Ireland would think. The hidden (cost) overall cost was too much and the the manner in which was rolled out would not be acceptable anywhere in the retail industry. Feel free to use my last name also. Thank you! Drop-off was incredibly confusing: the drop off section was closed and directions to the after hours drop off were not well written and could have been more detailed. It ended up taking a half hour to return the vehicle.

I brushed a stone wall in Ireland to avoid a head on collision and was horrified to learn that the two insurance coverages I thought did not, in fact, cover Ireland. It seems that it would have been a courtesy for the rental agent to mention that, but I must take responsibility for my ignorance. The manager at the airport was rude, unhelpful, and sent me away in an uninsured car because he did not want to deal with the problem at 8:30 pm. I was told to come back in the morning. I drove long distances to get back and forth, wasted a day, and was horrified to learn Hertz has charged me $13,000 to fix cosmetic damage that can be filled and buffed. 20% of the value of a car to repair cosmetic damage?! There will be no opportunity to receive fair estimates, and no proof that the work is ever done. Do your insurance homework before you rent, and above all never use Hertz! I will be living with their nightmare for years to come.

They didn't even have the one I booked (a Qashqai) so was given a Dacia Duster instead which was smaller than I was expecting. When I got it it was still muddy on the outside, probably because they had rushed to clean it.

Warning - Do not rent from Hertz at ShannonThe location is very convenientThis is as close to an extortion racket that I have ever experienced. The staff at the Hertz near Shannon Airport will charge you exorbitant amounts for any tiny scratch. We were assessed over $700 for three very short (the largest was less than 2 cm) thin (a couple of millimeters thick maybe) on the front bumper. These were not dents at all, just superficial scratches on a plastic bumper. In case you are thinking that this was just one person's bad experience be advised that 3 other people dropped off cars here while we were waiting for the "damage" report to be completed. All three of them were also being assessed for scratch damages. I do not know if those assessments were valid or not but they do illustrate a pattern. OK... you have been warned.

Hertz wouldn't rent to meAfter extensive research on renting a car in Ireland for people under 25... Hertz seemed like the best option.. No where on their site did it say they couldn't rent to you if you were under 25.. Nor that was going to be a problem when we arrived. Even reserved the car online, but still didn't ask my age, or say anything about them requiring you to be 25. I've renting many cars, some in Iceland, Thiland, Nepal, Laos, always been fine.. Usually just charged an extra amount per day because you are 25. After tons of trouble at the London airport, we land in Shannon, Ireland... And Hertz wouldn't rent us car because we were under 25. In fact, none of the 7 car rental places would rent to us.. So, I would say it would be nice to know that a head of time. It's very frustrated planning a whole trip around renting a car, because Hertz said it wouldn't be a problem... Only to find out we have to take a bus across Ireland, and not anything we wanted to..

DropoffNothingWe returned the car in perfect condition but the guy who checked us out went out to the car and promptly removed the side mirror cover, then proceeded to tell us that he had to charge €1000 to my credit card because he said the cover was loose and would not go back on. Then he offered for me to come with him to try to put it on but he would not allow me to put it on and said we had damaged it. It was in perfect condition when I pulled into the parking lot and there was not a scratch on it but he said he has to charge me for the so called “damage” and that I might be able to get some of it refunded. He was obviously trying to generate more revenue for the car rental.
