bait and switchPros:Nothing.Cons:From the start this was the worst car rental experience I've ever had. I got to the budget counter and they swiped my card. They immediately told me they wouldn't rent me a car because my credit wouldn't allow it. I never gave them permission to run my credit. Next they told me they could get me a car from avis. It was the same car they just changed the rental jacket from budget to avis and charged me $20 more. Once I got the car it was the most uncomfortable thing I've ever driven. That's not their fault it's Volkswagen to blame for that. They never asked me what car I wanted and forced me to pay more than the price I booked based on some phantom credit check they claim they did. I do not blame Kayak for this I blame the guilty patty which is Budget/Avis car rental.Reviewed 25 Mar 2016

Pros:Staff was very professional and efficient.Cons:The car was very worn, seats were stained, loud, uncomfortable. I thought I was getting a volkswagon jetta but ended up with a toyota corrolla. It looked like it had been just returned from a college road trip.Reviewed 26 Apr 2021

Good value rentalPros:Great quality car and no mechanical problems. Efficient service at the desk.Cons:Budget should work out a shuttle to the Newport News Amtrak station. It cost me more than a days rental to get to and from the station to the rental agency.Reviewed 26 Sep 2016

Great price and excellent service!Pros:Reasonable price for a 4 day rental over the holiday weekend! The front desk associate was super friendly and recommended the newer of two car models available which turned out to be a great choice- it had only 15,000 miles and was spotless! Check-out was quick and check-in was even quicker!! Overall great experience!Reviewed 5 Jul 2016

They need more staffingPros:Upgraded vehicle from full to mid size SUVCons:No staffing to ensure ease of pickup and drop off. To inspect the vehicles and help with any issues. It's kind of a free for all. I didn't like that. Tires under inflated, adapters in car to charge phone not working,no windshield wiper fluid.Reviewed 5 Jun 2017

Pros:The Budget rental itself was fine.Cons:Misleading sign-up. Said I would not have to pay until at the rental car counter. But charged $12 immediately for Allianz, although it said $9. Thought it was for accident protection but it was for cancelation insurance or something. Will never use Kayak again for rental cars.Reviewed 23 May 2019

Pros:Car was roomy, great on gasCons:No help finding car in parking garage. Person at counter was helpful on my reservation but couldn't find the car and wasted time walking around.
