Cons:Had to cancel my reservation 2 Months ago due to a wedding cancellation because of Covid. Thrifty told me that I can submit an appeal to get my money back but would not be told the outcome until after my reservation date. Ridiculous!Reviewed 7 Sep 2020

Pros:Being able to book a reasonably priced car so quick and easily.Cons:I tried to get in touch with someone to let them know I was running late to get the car, try to modify the reservation, or add a driver and every place I called said they wouldn’t do it for me. Then because I couldn’t get in touch with anyone and was late, my reservation “didn’t exist anymore” and I was charged for a car I never even drove. Worst customer service.Reviewed 30 Jun 2020

Cons:I reserved and paid for a premium car. They had none at pick up and offered me a kia. When I said that was not a premium I waited while he walked around. The line behind me grew longer so I finally said I'd take the toyota. When pushed they took $50 courtesy off. They could have had the car I paid for there for me or offered to fix the pricing without my having to push so hard and making everyone wait while he dithered. More staff there might have made things smother for the ones waiting behind me too.Reviewed 30 Dec 2019

Cons:I had booked my car rental 4 months in advance to ensure I would get the car I wanted for a road trip through New England. However, when I got to Thrifty they said they could not find the keys for the car I had requested. I had wanted a small car to save on gas mileage and the elevation I would be driving on. Instead they gave me a mid size car that went through a lot of gas. Also, the car reeked of cigarette smoke. The smell was so strong we had to invest in air freshners which did very little for the smell. I had tried spraying perfume as well which was only a momentary fix. We kept the windows down for most of the drive. When we would turn on the AC, a very sour smell would come through the vents. Also, we had been told rolls would be covered; however, before leaving we told the car had not been registered to EZ Pass so we would be responsible for all tolls, which added up. Warning: Debit Card Not AcceptedPros:There was another car rental company very close by that would accept our money.Cons:They only accept credit card payments. Seeing that neither my partner nor I have one of these, finding this out upon arrival was nothing short of a disaster. Why Kayak do not make this the primary caveat of their offer, I really do not know. We had bookings made all over New England that were suddenly in jeopardy. I'm just so grateful that Avis do not have such a policy even though, thanks to thrifty forcing us into making a last minute arrangement it wound up costing four times the amount of the original. Hopefully this review will convince Kayak to make this much clearer in future so that other customers will not have the same stressful, highly expensive experience.Reviewed 6 Nov 2016

Cashless tolling = ridiculous feesPros:Typical rental car. Desk staff didn't try to strong arm me into buying some insurance policy I didn't need. Sad that that's a plus, but it is.Cons:Now that Massachusetts tolls are all cashless, rental car companies have found a new way to squeeze more money out of you. They'll either rent you an EZ-Pass for $15 a day (not including tolls - that's just the rental fee for the device), or, they'll charge you $18 each time you go through a tolling point and they get a pay-by-plate bill (again, plus the cost of the toll.) Especially since it's next to impossible to get out of Logan airport without hitting a toll, this feels like a bait and switch. I was quoted $55 for a vehicle for two days, which quickly turned into $85. Rental car companies should be required to disclose this when they quote a price from Logan, if not everywhere in MA. I get it that they didn't make the decision for tolls to be cashless, but it gives them this ridiculous lever to literally double the price of most of their daily rates.Reviewed 20 Feb 2017

Good experience overall, but ...Pros:The overall rental operation appears to be run well. The staff is courteous and helpful and the cars are clean.Cons:Three issues keep me from giving my rental experience a 5/5 overall. The first is my own fault, I agreed to accept a "compact" vehicle. In the Thrify world this means I got a Mazda 2, a very small, loud, and harsh riding automobile. This car would make a good first car for an 18 yo, but is significantly smaller and less equipped than the average car I am accustom to. It was fairly new, (25,000 miles), got great gas mileage and was fairly quick, but I never felt safe driving on I-90. Which brings me to my next two issues; the car didn't have cruise control and it shook badly when driving over 65 MPH. I fault the Thrify airport ticket agent for putting me in a car without cruise control. She new I would be driving on I-90 and talked me into getting the express pay toll apparatus, but never mentioned that my selected auto didn't have cruise control. What new car doesn't have cruise control? Finally, the car had a bad vibration when driving over 65 miles per hour. So bad that the entire steering wheel, seats and occupants shook. Unfortunately for me, it took nearly 20 miles of driving to get far enough away from Boston to get the car up to 65 miles. By that time it was too late in the day to turn around and request a replacement vehicle.Reviewed 30 Nov 2015

OverchargedPros:Good choice of carsCons:The cars were very very dirty, to the extent that we had to open each and every car and pick the cleanest one which wasn't even "clean" but it was the least dirty of the lot. I don't just mean dirty as in dust, but as in there was snow stains all over the steering as if someone had smeared them on. The rear window was dirty as well. The windshield was so dirty that i had to pull over at a gas satiation and clean the windshield from the inside using wet paper towels. This wasn't even the worst part. We returned the car on time and still we got charged late fee. Needless to say, never Thrifty again.Reviewed 3 Jan 2018

Cons:We were never able to get our Thrifty rental car because they wouldnt release the car to my husband. I had booked the reservation six weeks in advance and put it in my husbands name who would be picking up the vehicle. When they got to the rental car pick at at 5:30am after being on a flight all night they were turned away in the cold and said there was nothing that they could do. Since I had booked the car with my credit card. No where on Kayak's website or Thrifty do they tell you that you cannot pay with a debit card. When my husband got to the rental car place he only had a copy of my credit card which they wouldnt take. and then They wouldnt let him re book the car with a debit card. So thrifty turned my husband and kids away in the freezing cold with no solution and not knowing where to go next. Would never book with them again. Horrible customer service.Reviewed 7 Jan 2016
